I can think of several couples that met just on AO, met a few of them at the 10th anniversary too. I'm not listing them for the sake of their privacy, however.
There is good and bad outcomes. it just depends on the people involved and how honest they are with each other, and themselves. Just like dating in the real world.
My bet is that MTV just wants the bad, ugly, and dramatic for ratings. It's a trap!
