That is correct. If you turn off xp, you still gain AIxp & research.
F10 > Behavior > Disable all xp gains
Just be warned that there are a few mission rewards (Dark Ruins is the only one I can think of at the moment) that will STILL give you xp, even if you have it turned off.
genele is on top of the Q n A
genele if youre responsible for the new rings and gem icons - they are looking absolutely amazing, if not take credit for it anyway and pass it along to the other designers - ring of power - is awesome to note a new one i just saw

Just read typeon's post that alot of people have been hating on.
The guy is talking sense imo.
Im one of those people he is talking about and have been for the last 5 years.
I do pvm because i have to do it to get to the pvp and be any good.So i feel forced to pvm but rarely complain and often have even helped with pvm bugs without asking or accepting special points on test.
There are alot of reasons ao is quiet lately. Some are waiting for the new engine because graphics are just too important for them to play it as is,i have a friend who stopped playing because of this.
As typeon said we have so many pvm encounters now.I was suprised myself that more are being added,i dont even use those daily mish to lvl my froob characters, its just a pain in the 4ss for me lol.
I dont mind adding all this new content on top of the already massive amount of pvm content, but i do mind being forced to do new content before i can pvp again,As all know when new items come out you must slave away hours and hours to catch up again or your character will be left behind in the pvp scene...which is only reason i play really.
I get dissapointed every time i hear a new instance is made it really makes me sick lol its a good chance i have yet another instance i MUST do to keep up to date for pvp.
Wtb pvp version of pvm so i can get same gear from pvping Hell il work harder for it! just gimmie the option lol
I think the reason pvp is dead right now is because there is not much in the game to hold pvpers attention..this might explain why "its hard to get 12 people" simply because the game is mostly populated by pvm'ers who are being taken care of in every patch, while the pvpers have had nothing to inspire or keep them playing.
I have 3x 220 agents,220 shade,218fixer,170 agent,79 agent etc etc Yet my account is unpaid and will always be until i have some pvp content...I have never complained about this until i saw people shooting down a pvper who was talking sense!
Most of us are happy to let you guys have your pvm, surely its preferable(even wise?) for funcom to provide for the pvp community?
Anyway if everyone here thinks my account is one of a kind that will stay closed till pvp balance think again.I know alot of pvpers and i dont see them around while i play on froobs waiting for the balance update.
While typeon was a little blunt with his advice, his advice was still better for pvp than the current situation.
I guess funcom is trying to sling everyone along with a few new pvm things to hold out till balance is done.Fair enough, but expect pvpers to leave game or stay unpaid.Thats just how it is imo.
Ive said it before and il say it again.
Expanding the game in a linear fashion creates a massive grind. While this is great for mmorpg's getting mulah for time played its not great for the players who hate to pvm and love to pvp.Theres a community of pvpers that is slowly being wittled down or frustrated.
Typeon and myself are obviously big into pvp,but it would be silly to think we are the only ones feeling this way.We are just expressing concerns that are real and widespread.
If PvP was so grossly imbalanced in 1 direction players that see PvP as their primary enjoyment point of AO would move in that direction. Example to past problems, NTs triple / double were very overpowered before some other items came around and made them not as powerful. During their peek of being overpowered most players created an NT along those lines to take part in the activity there. Another example is the current TL5 of being mainly Enforcers, NTs, and Traders.
What I'm getting at here is that people do and have moved in the direction of the imbalance, the reason they are not doing so anymore is simply because the imbalance is not great enough to warrant the time invested in moving to it. So, now a vast majority of the players, whom mainly focus on PvP, are playing "time out" saying the game is greatly imbalanced. In reality these players are just waiting on the balance changes to come about so that they know what class to focus their efforts into so they can be the imbalanced profession on top.

I spoke about pvp balance not because of the actual "balance" which i believe wont be attained. It is because in this patch it is hoped that new pvp content will be added to ****e the game up on the pvp side of things.
Massive changes in perks special machanics, which then alters setups and creates new setup ideas. This is what is missing right now and what the hardcore pvpers are basically saying is that right now they dont see any need to pay their accounts because the pvp aspect of the game is yet unfullfilled.
Yes a good few people choose new op profs but its not the case with every pvper.I find mostly people who are lacking in skills have a better time playing easier profs..its how the game goes.
All im doing here is reiterating as a pvper why alot of accounts are unpaid and that pvm isnt the be all and end all of this game.Im sure there are role players who feel much the same about this game and get an even smaller microphone
torakx, you have been around long enough to have seen the arena tournaments, the notum wars. I think that there are two problems:
- 220s with DB, LE and Xan have been boosted too far that they shouldn't be able to PvP with TL5s.
- That the PvPers don't organise themselves enough and expects instant action when they log in.
Seriously, there are games with a PvP focus. Why were you hooked into AO?

Why so serious?
Stick What? You mean there are not enough PvP-ers ... to get the BS running? ... how come ...
Aeliniyah : Where exactly? ... it requires only 6+6 people to start a round of BS, yet they never run ...
Telling pvpers to go away is fair enough if this was a pvm only game.It isnt the case at the moment.
Funcom are obviously attempting to reorganise the pvp scene and mechanics so i think they are also considering pvpers when doing that.
Im simply saying that typeon isnt way off track with what he is saying. It is how it is,i dont complain that pvp balance is too far away,i am just explaining to everyone that it isnt so black and white and the reasons i stated were part of why the ao community has gotten a little smaller recently.
When the balance patch comes out and if before the engine you will see exactly what i mean about the pvp scene.Again im not saying add some pvp stuffs now cause i cant wait. Its just that is the reality of the situation as i see it.Funcom can take that as good or bad advice and do what they will with it,im patient enough to play on froobs once in a while as i wait till rebalance.
It's nice to read a PvP post without eyesore. That it's backed up with some facts is even better.
But try to consider several other aspects as well:
a) FC is company and needs to income. That's why it's cartering paying customers and to some extent froobs. Now, if majority of paying customers is interested into PvM, and ofc froobs don't stand competative chance in PvP, that's where majority of development will go.
b) PvMers need to invest same ammount of time and effort into new content to be the best they can be. Only difference is that the content is usually looked more faviorly upon
c) PvP isn't really what AO is based upon. I believe I have read somewhere it was only added on afterthought. So it's kinda like something else to do, but always second.
d) Those not interested into PvP will never understand why PvPers are demanding more and more, if they don't even use the stuff already ingame. It doesn't matter if it's inconvinient, buggy or unbalanced (easiest PvM counterpart example to come to mind atm is Three Craters, it doesn't matter if zoning is bugged, there's no map and grid wasn't added when FC opened zones, players still used them)
With that, what can hardcore PvPers actually do? For a start, they could try and enjoy the game and use the opportunities they already have. For example, several years ago lvl1 duels were popular. If nothing else, it takes away some of the difference between paying and free accounts, there's limited resources players can use, etc. So why don't you open froob account (since you don't want to pay) and organize lvl1 tournament? Get the ball rolling, show FC and PvM community there's an interest.

[Kintaii]: Dude, I *am* weird
[Kintaii]: I came to accept this many years ago and am much happier for it. XD
[Kintaii]: Besides - I work on *AO*. That right there is proof of my oddness.
This is a PvM game. It has many features. One of them is PvP. The devs are trying to fix the content that is broken, that includes PvP. In what place of the "to do" list should PvP fixing be? Debatable. Lets debate it. That's it.
Claiming against all logic and facts that this is a PvP game or that the majority of players are only or mostly interested in PvP is ridiculous. It is done, as said before, by those that are waiting for the next inbalance to create an Iwin toon. Mucho lamo.
If PvP ever becomes reasonably balanced (in the sense of being playable by all professions in any setup) i am pretty sure that it will become more popular then it is now. As it is now, PvP is only fun for PvP specific toons, and to make those PvP specific toons a player needs to have high amounts of $$$, have a PvM main to farm nodrops and do quests for the PvP toon and very specific knowledge that is kept more or less "secret" (IE not readily available to everyone). Or in short: PvP is enjoyable by a small elite only and newer players are forced into PvP to amuse them. A VERY BAD GAMEPLAY DESIGN, that is one of the causes for the game to loose the playerbase.
In my opinion we need URGENTLY a new startup experience with the possibility for starting players to get decently equipped at all levels.
Next we need viable alternatives for leveling, giving XP/SK/$$$/gear in RK/SL/LE instead of the heck/inferno grind. Those alternatives need not be all superfancy new playfields. Some decent gear/cash/XP rewards for dungeon crawls in SL and RK would go a long way.
Third, PvP needs to be rebalanced to make it enjoyable by all (basically, giving a chance to any decently geared toon to not go instasplat), which requires that the rules for PvP be rewriten to make it similar to PvM, at the very least in terms of IP distribution. That would bring many more players into PvP, the distinction between PvPers and PvMers is artificial, most players play whatever is fun, interesting and rewarding. It only exists because of the distinction between PvP and PvM toons.
Finally, the easiest thing of all, kill the heckgrind by making hecks run from pockets.
After that we need small changes made regularly to keep leveling toons interesting for old players. Most get bored because the path to wathever objective is always the same. Small changes in that path introduced regularly may help in keeping it interesting.
And ofc bug hunting all the way.

Funcom developers communicate by throwing handwritten notes to each other over the 2 elephants in the room, balance and graphics.
Its like being at a family dinner trying to carry on even though great gramma is sat in a puddle of her own pee and uncle fred got drunk and made a pass at your mom. Relations are strained.
But at least my 220/30 endgame toon can go solo some aliens, THAT will keep me playing.
