Well, when you count in equipment and self buffs, it's usually win for melee, since several ranged profs (read: support ones), sacrifice 144 run speed in r-wrist for AS, while you lack only what, 58 on thigh (docs actually lack 144+58 (no run speed in support thigh), if they go AS)?
Etc, etc...

my ranged toons keep getting killed by melee toons! if what OP says is true, im pretty sure these melee opponents must be sploiting.

The reality is: melee toons should have far superiorr defences vs ranged AND far superior offense VS. ranged for the currently setup mechanics:
Here's why:
If toon R is ranged and toon M is melee and they start 100m apart: by the time toon M has gotten out of his snares, roots and other crap and sprinted half way to his opponent, WHOM, DURING THE TIME HIS OP'D SPECIALS ARE RECHARGING HAS SPRINTED 40m FURTHER AWAY, is dead.
So:
M has broke, endured or resisted roots/snares, is dead, and the corpse is 50m from his starting position, is 90m from his opponent.
R has less bullets, is 40m from his original position, and hasn't lost 1 hp.
How to fix:
M needs superior defences vs ALL ranged.
M needs more heals
M needs to be able to GET to R.
R needs a FAR lower chance to hit beyond a range proportional to the ability of M to break through the hinderance mechanisms.
R needs a far GREATER killing ability against M once M is within melee range.
The Simple TRUTH
Effective AR@0-5m range=100% AR ->for all melee, ranged attacks
Effective AR@5-10m range=80% AR -> for all ranged attacks
Effective AR@10-20m range=60% AR -> for all ranged attacks
Effective AR@20m+ range =40% AR -> for all ranged attacks

Well, guess what.
I have the same stupid issue, even though I'm 5 m away with my bow up melee's arse but hey, those 200 pts in run speed obviously makes a difference, since he eventually managed to escape (LOL @ melee chars running away from a bow MP), even though I was unable to hit him in a first place.
And just for the record, I was somehow getting hit by his regular attacks while we were running, even though he was not in (my) range. WTF?!
What's stopping you to get GSF as well? We were talking about selfbuff + equipment run speed state, so cut the crap.Things that are much much much faster than a MA: shade, fixer, adv, enf, agent, maybe nt, anything with gsf.
And what about us ranged ones that don't have such roots/snares?
