OTPC: Hunter To Stand Trial
November 25, 29483 - [Global]
OTPC -The trial begins this weekend of Khiernan Hunter, agent of the now effectively defunct criminal syndicate known as the “Eastern Sovereignty”.
Hunter, a high ranking member of the group, stands accused of involvement in at least 24 unsolved crimes in the Omni-Pol database, following Omni-Pol's successful capture of a major database in the raid on the group's headquarters. Files directly implicating Hunter were found to be damaged, however specialists managed to repair enough to link him to multiple crimes, up to and including the murder of the group's leader, one R.E. Kerniak several weeks ago.
He is accused of conspiracy to commit murder and theft, as well as involvement in money laundering, terrorism, espionage, fraud and impersonating an Omni official.
His crimes are believed to date back at least as early as involvement in the assassination of agent Callahan of Omni InternOps in April of 29480, now believed to have been aimed at preventing agent Callahan from exposing the organisation's infiltration of departments of Omni-Tek. The list also includes coordinating the attack in 29481 where hackers diverted large amounts of company funds from banking systems, as well as the terrorist attacks which flooded Omni-Com with traffic at the time, masking the attack. And of course, he is accused of masterminding the deaths of Lex McAllister and Samantha McKallen of Omni-Pol, both highly involved in the investigation into these crimes, and partly responsible for the operation which eventually brought the group down.
Hunter is believed to have been involved with the organisation since its inception, some time following the Tir Accord, acting as a right hand man to Kerniak. Omni records show him as originally being employed by the legitimate business formerly run by Kerniak; Eyes, Inc. Neither he nor Kerniak were seen for some time since Omni cancelled their contract. Since his capture, almost the entire upper levels of the organisation are accounted for, either dead or in custody. However, Omni-Pol remain vigilant as previous arrests in this case have resulted in deaths before trial, and some remaining members still at large may attempt to silence him.
His arrest is the culmination of a string of arrests within Omni-Tek, where several low to mid ranking employees were revealed to be on the payroll of the Eastern Sovereignty. Omni-Pol officers involved in uncovering these traitors are likely to have official notes of commendation added to their permanent records, according to senior officials. Notably still at large, Omni-Pol are relaxing their manhunt for Joseph Hadrensen, now believed to have made it offworld. OTPC will continue to cover the trial as it develops.
