Will there ever be a possibility of changing a name?

I *presume* it's technically possible. Yes I know some ARK's say that it isn't - but thing is, ALL of them used to claim that changing a person back to neutral is impossible too...
not saying there's a conspiracy here or anything, just that obviously a lot of knowledge is on a "need-to-know", carefully guarder (or not) basis (as much as I think that policy is hurtful), so even the best-intentioned ARK's can give you "official" answers that just don't happen to be the truth...

So - is there a person among the ranks of FunCom, somewhere up, that can change a character's name? Or rather, since I presume there is at *some* level, how can it be done?

Will it ever be a more widely available future? I know a person or two who are DYING to change their name

When you ask for a name change like any of the above (none is offensive), FC reserves the right not to change for ya. Why ? Because FC is GOD in AO, they have the right to discriminate and do whatever they like.

Is that list what I think it is - i.e. people who have had their names changed?

My friend who is a lvl 153 atrox enforcer (he is the one actually interested in changing the name, I'm posting on his behalf for obvious reasons), was told less then a week ago that it's impossible - only first name of a char can be changed...

Mixed signals once again?

Are they encouraging him to petition over and over in hope to catch a friendly and co-operative ARK? Or what is the message? :-|

Well, just based on info on these boards, we know that Funcom has the ability to change first, last, and nickname.

However, what their policy is on doing so is a different matter. Since it's probably a manual process, they are probably not going to readily do it for just anyone (only special cases).

If an ARK says it can't be done, they 1) don't know it can (possible, remember, ARK's are just players who applied for the ARK program, not Funcom employees. Only GM's are Funcom employees), or 2) are saying that because it's easier then saying "we can, but it's against our policy to do so". Saying it can't be done is a whole lot easier to get someone to stop asking.

I'm guessing, however, that only a GM would have the power to actually perform the change.

I just petitioned and asked for my first name (assigned) to be changed (from Otha to Damon) and the guy who came changed it for me. He would not change my last name, however.
