    The Esoteric Art of Nanojitsu

A martial art form found only on the world of Rubi-Ka, nanojitsu is impossible to practice anywhere else, due to the pecularities of that world. Roughly translated, nanojitsu means "the Art of Fist and Nano". In practice, nanojitsu melds traditinal martial art forms with the devestaing techniques of nanotechnology into an extrodinarliy deadly combat style.

Nanojitsu was first developed by what would later become the Clans. Then-Omnitek employees, disgruntled with thier treatment at the hands of the megacorporation and increasingly denied access to weaponry, adapted basic hand-to-hand techniques to work alongside the powerful nanoformulas that had been developed to function only on Rubi-Ka. These early experiments with the art form were crude, practiced in the main by heavy nano-users such as nanomage breeds, who sadly lacked the phisical prowess to fully exploit the techniques.

In 29206, the groups calling themselves the Clans revolted againsed thier employers, and declared war upon Omnitek. By this time, the art of nanojitsu had become quite refined as other breeds, such as the mainstream Solitus, took up practicing it. Upon the battlefields of the 1st Rubi-Ka Civil War nanojitsu recived its first real baptisim by fire, and prooved to be every bit as deadly as 'normal' nanocombat (if such a term can be applied to what appears to the uninitiated as magic), and far moreso at close quarters where some of the techniques of nanocombat are restricted.

Alarmed by reports of supposivly fragile long-range nanotechnicians closing with and utterly destroying heavily-armed troops with the techniques of nanojitsu, Omnitek made a concertered effort to hunt down and destroy praticioners of the art. They were to a large part successful in this, targeting known dojos for annihilation and ruthlessly killing anyone suspected of using the art that fell into thier hands. It is thought that this high-handed behavior may well have triggered the founding of Jobe in 29301, as other nanotechs and meta-physicists broke from the corporation after seeing the treatment of thier fellows at the hands of Omnitek.

Omnitek was not entirly successful in stamping out nanojitsu, however. Masters of the art were driven underground, many of them still remaining loyal to Omnitek even as they taught thier techniques to a new generation of students in secret. In time, new dojos sprang up to replace the ones destroyed by Omnitek, and of course the art was still taught openly in Clan territory. Eventually Omnitek adopted a 'dont-ask-dont-tell' policy reguarding the practice of nanojitsu, unwilling to further irritate the powerful city-state of Jobe by continuing pogroms againsed the art and thoes who practice it.

While unable to command the nanoformulas innate to thoes who train in the more traditinal martial art forms, many professions that use nanoformulas offensivly such as Doctors as well as traditinal practicioners like Nanotechnicians have nonetheless begun to discover just how lethal the art of nanojitsu can be. As such, nanojitsu has experianced a rennisance in recent years. It still remains a rather secretive art, usually handed down within families and taught to very few outsiders. However, the sheer numbers of people currently flocking to Rubi-Ka assure that this esoteric martial art will not remain in the shadows for much longer.

(Note: Yes, I know that 'jitsu' actually translates as 'Art'. However, Ju-Nano or Nano-Fu does not roll off the tounge as well as Nanojitsu does. So I took some liberties. Hey, its fanfic, ok? )
