    New ways

After u have done one mission u have done them all. 80% of the XP gained in AO is gained through missions. That bassicly means that 80% of the xp gained was boring. It felt like work. The only reason u do it is because u feel u get rewarded by lvling.

But why should lvling be boring? Why should anything be boring?

After u have camped a low lvl unique for days to get a thing u need u feel happy because u finally got the item. However u have bored ureself to the bringt of inzanity getting that item.

But why should getting items be boring? Why should anything be boring?

After u have helped 30 other people taking out a lvl 300 boss only 1-3 people get anything out of it. U bored ureself to death doing this but u did it because maby u would get something.

But why should so few get anything out of the time spent by so many? Why cant lvl 300 Bosses drop same amount of stuff like mission bosses do? Now THATS a raid!

I think u all get my point here. I just think that we need a few adjustments to how things are done in this game. Afterall this is a game and we play it to have fun. Why do we have to pay with 3 hours of boredom to get an item we want when we can pay with 3 hours of fun to get that item?

Missions need more to it than just killing. Take out half of the mobs and replace it with tasks that give all-together same amounts of xp as the mobs u took out would generate. Tasks that needs tradeskills, lockpicking and what have u.

Big uniques need more loot pr kill to make more people happy.

Small uniques with random spawn are needed all around Rubi Ka to promote adventuring.

Dont u guys think it would make AO more fun? Thats what this is about. FC want us to stay as long as possible on the servers and if they make the things we do more fun and awarding then I wouldnt mind staying longer!

Sounds resonable, and since the amount of boss-loot only items are increasing, heck every new nano is more or less boss-loot only, this would mean that despite the fact that only 1-3 people would benefit from the "uber" loot, there is still a shot at getting something useful for the rest of the participants...

Simply said, I like this idea

    Bump ure socks off!

    I mean..
love, nerf, fix, adjust, balance, whine, argue, owned, pwned, uber, gimp, cry, gank, remove this, add that...

I say forget it all and make this game fun to play as first priority!

We have played this game for 2 years now and people cry even more now than they did before. It will never stop.

..Do u guys really want this game to be semi-boring, packed with people that have strong oppinions about other classes for the remaining 2+ years?

AO is not a lifestyle. It shouldnt be. Lets work with FC to make it more fun because a game is supposed to be just that.

Moot point , but how often is Boss loot "CRAP"?
I mean you do a 2 hour mission and kill a Level 210 Boss and it takes 15 minutes for what? Loot that sucks. "Something to sell please." Thats all you ever hear.

Well.. yes. I've never seen GA or NS, never seen any rare nanos. Hell I've never seen an albrecht drop - at all, and an x-3 once!

I just grab a few Kins (ID/crystal) and flog them in omni-trade.

    LOL

You know when u get to know funcom? when u talk to their officials personally. I have not had much contact, but from the little i have had in the past, I've been somewhat dissapointed. The GMs are always nice, but I've lost yalms and they would not under any cercumstance be able to help me even if I had proof of it. When it comes to reasons behind their choices and what they are going to do in the future, the answers are nil. You have to consider that they don't care if there is content, and they don't even care if a few of you quit because you will be replaced by newbs to the game. I quit 6 months ago and came back lately, and I only have seen about 5 people in the 5 mandays I've played that I recognize. There are SUPER DUPER SIMPLE things that they could do to make the game a WORLD BETTER!!! Dumb simple things like allowing people to be in suborgs, and allowing people to write messages in game and pass them to other people. Things like being able to save and import friends lists. Things like letting people view the forum ingame (a little more complicated). From what I see, funcom might be as little as 20 computer professionals that play half the time and work the other half, and don't care enough to explain themselves to their players.

Our strength is in unity. That is why I suggested the org "The Disillusioned." It's for people who accept funcom's inability to show care to their players, and look to eachother for what funcom lacks. I will refine the goal of my post, because it was maybe too personal. But that's what the game is to each one of us who have lotz of experience, personal.

I'd be genuinely interested if you could come up with a way of generating content that didn't seem jaded or automated.

The verisimilitude or variety of the simulation isn't the issue here.

The problem is that you may have read the mission description the first time after the 5th it simply becomes the "find item" mission.

Sure if you went round every mission thinking "Hey I need to dump this poison into the food hopper because somebody hacked into the mission terminal and gave me this really important task to do", but the chances are you won't even read it.

So perhaps hand scripted quests are the way forward. Trouble is they take a lot of work to generate and once solved and the solutions disseminated they're really no different from missions. (Dodga/Alvin)

My point is that whatever you come up with sooner or later seem formulaic. "Oh this is the get 3 people to open the doors from different directions mission". "Or this is the mission where the fixers have to hack the mainframe."

To take this to an extreme imagine FC came up with a seemless automated world generator. Something that could generate endless scenery and intelligent complex, deep interconnected subtle plots and continously changing quests. (and somebody will one day).
Sooner or later you'd start feeling, "damn more computer generated scenery and interconnected plots", "what's the point it's just random numbers, good looking random numbers, but random number nonetheless."

So what does make a difference?. I'll tell you what! people. Real people.

In Quake or Medal of Honour you play it through once but the chances are you'll never play it through again. You will however go online and play the same rotation of team missions over and over again until your fingers bleed. Would we do the same against bots?

The single overarching thing that keeps us in this game is the other people. Funcom know this too I suspect which is where notum wars came from. But is NW enough, have they perhaps sanitised it too much, made it too fair? Do people really care that much about their 3 plots of land. Or the treadmill of aquiring new 3 plots of land. Maybe if they freed the system up a bit and made it so Storm or Legion could own half the land on the planet it would be different, who knows?

Whatever the answers, the future lies in anything that focuses on the human element. Rip away all the smoke and mirrors and the AO is a chat client with an element of competition thrown in.

Funcom is making money off of Addicts and new players. Mainly addics.

    And idiots like me...

I log on, run around Borry a few minutes, check guild chat, seeing if something is going down.

Tower gets attacked, I go there, realise all my characters are the wrong level. So I try leveling alts to get some tower PvP. Spend 30 minutes trying to find a team... nothing. Log on my main, blitz a mission or two, get bored. Start to look for a team. Not a one. (Probably looking in the wrong places.)

Rubi-Ka is a big planet, but I fear it's heavily underpopulated. I have huge problems getting teams. I've been lvl 62 for a month, every single level soloed. God that's boring.
I think I can relate, Omar. Disillusioned, hell yes.

What I think would make AO enjoyable for me is the ability to make an impact on the world. I think we all deep down wants to make a difference. This "dynamic" world is so static, nothing moves. NW? What a joke. Poorly implemented at best. FC is milking us for what we got, as simple as that. Whatever they do there would still be people playing.

I find myself logging on less and less. I look forward to SWG...not because it will be the greatest mmorpg ever made. Not because I wanna immerse myself in the Star Wars saga. But because I want to start over. The best time I ever had in AO was in the beginning, everything was new, I discovered things on an hourly basis. There was so much to learn, and to try. Now it's like; Done that, been there, doing it tomorrow.

But I guess this is the nature of all games. You get tired and move on. I haven't played Deus Ex in a couple of years, I play other games. AO lasted me this long, I wonder how long it will last me...

Nice post diatribe... and so true. Try socialising more... at the end of the day, that is the main feature of an MMORPG, the 'game' is really just an excuse.
"Do not try and catch the hamster... that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth... There is no hamster, only a deadbeat rollerat..."

[Social] Means: I don't think we removed any bosses because of bad pathing...there wouldnt be any left if we did :P

    "diatribe"

Yes I agree that whatever they do to missions we will one day see the pattern and go back to being bored. Thats why we have fun in a game at the start. We dont know everything and we are really hyped on exploring the game. As time passes u realise the pattern in everything and it starts to get boring.

This is (atleast I think it is) FC's biggest prob atm:

Looking at the patchnotes I get the feeling that FC add some stuff to keep us interested in AO a little while longer and some general changes to counteract the too-big-changes they made earlier. This dont work. Why?

    Because:

The stuff they add to the game are not improvements in HOW we play the game. Its just dungeons, static stuff. I love dungeons but they all become boring once u got what u came for. All static things do.

The changes they make gives me the "jo-jo" feeling. Back and forth, back and forth. Nerf this, boost that, nerf that, boost this. These kind of changes are made to tweak AO into the state of "as intended". However, just notice how far from "as intended" we still are after 2 years! 50% crit-reduce in pvp after 2 years of playing? Something tells me ure way of "as intended" and we are not playing AO to make it perfect for our next generation..

Thats why I want FC to do this instead:

To keep us from getting bored and to make AO the game that never gets boring, simply have most of ure designers drop all that nerf-love-work and let them use most of their time to add and change the quests and missions to take away this horrible static feeling of AO.

Im trying to reach out right now because I seriously think this game has such a great potential. FC can really make a proffit out of this because they dont need more people to make changes that make veteran-players AND the new players that used to replace the bored veterans stay ingame. They simply need to concentrate their minds on what is important.

Realise it. The way FC slowly patching the game atm dont work. People are having fun until they see the pattern. They leave. New players replace the ones that left. The new players are having fun until they see the pattern and then they leave too.

So finally when its time for AO to go offline it will still be the "Not-quite-balanced-and-horribly-static-game" as it is today.
