Service Towers, Pet Class and Hate

Latest Notum Wars article says:

You can buff them [Service Towers] like pets, but they all the damage they do will divert the hate onto the owner – so use them at your own risk.

If I'm an engineer using this tower, does it mean that my pet will be even worse at tanking? Right now I can get aggro just standing close to the fight doing nothing. With the damage from the tower added, I won't stand a chance!
Am I reading this correctly? Or is there a way to redirect the hate to the bot?

Well you dont want the tower to get agro since

"The service towers – very basically – function like stationary pets. You create them, they fire at opponents, but can take virtually no damage themselves"

and because not all classes have pets the player must get the agro.

The _real_ problem is our bots dont tank well period. Thats what needs fixing.
