I think it is a viable alternative solution. Not all MB incidents and effects are mass.
Lag is lag though and I gotta say even just on a psychological level I might feel better about the whole thing?

First of all - remove /follow entirely. You want to do content - do it by yourself non afk. Kite hill lovers won't be affected.
Then - remove assist. It will actually make people pay attention as they should while playing AO. 1-button half-cheat mode like assist just makes things easy. Any content will still be doable without assist at all, will it be PvM or PvP situation.
If assist will be removed - then it might make many things alot more challenging (especially mass PvP) without touching content itself or hardly reworking it.
No need to touch GRACE, since its pure FC's income and they need it to keep AO alive. No need to touch other game mechanics.
Of course, HKN still gives a chance to MB content without assist and follow, but it makes things much much more harder to do.
Those who will be against assist and follow removal - please provide real arguments against it. But don't say that content will be impossible to do or something like that. If you don't know which mob to kill - then examine and learn specific content or learn how to act as a real team with other team members first.

Amen Arty.
I made a post about just this a while back. To be honest I feel it would make AO insanely fun again. Please Michi! I'll sacrifice some fr00bs on newbie island, the old one, to appease the server gods.
I am against the removal of /follow. I usually play 3 accounts when doing quests on lowbies/midlevels (not using any MB-software of any kind though, just 3-logged on 3 screens), and having a high-level toon on follow for ease and security for the lowbie is pretty ok. Yeah, I am lazy... I have too many 220's I guess, so I don't bother to do the quests (which most are crappily scaled to their levels (talking SL-quests mostly)) on the toon alone that needs it without my other accounts escorting/healing/mezzing/anchoring/recalling etc.
Removal of /assist though that is something I am all for. Most profs are OP in PVM, so if someone calls a wrong target it doesn't matter much, it's not like it will wipe a raidforce (in mass-raids), and in small instances like DB3, most people know or can be told what mobs to attack, so assist is not that important. It will force people to pay attention in both pvm and pvp, and pvp would be less of a zerg war, picking out target by target.
So yeah, I am mostly a pvm-oriented player, that joins some pvp every now and then, so I am mostly concerned with pvm not being affected too much to fix pvp. (And for those who have trouble holding back; don't give me the whole "omfg! noob pvm'er!!"-crap, I've heard it all before, and remember your toon would not be over level 1 if you never did any pvm, nor would it have much stuff on it.)
Jihnna 220/30/80 Shade
Underworld
I'm with Jihnna on this, there is nothing wrong with follow, although I get your point of view on it, the only thing that needs to be fixed is the multiboxing, as its a 3rd party program, the rest, multilogging and doing things manually ,like Jihnna and plenyt of us still do (me too), its just those that dont do it manually, in any other game, this is considered a cheat, no question, but here, nothing is done and I dont think its that they cant, its that they just wont, because its a company and money > anything else
Its not like AO has the amount of customers FPS games have where they can actually ban players without a real big loss, but either way, by allowing this, they're killing the game even more
I'm 100% sure this is probably the most robust solution.
You're exactly right that inability to operate /follow will lead to extreme unpleasantness for any multiboxer who runs into a snare/knockback/root/ clarioncall/stun ANY kind of CC will badly disrupt MB.
The only way around it, which would be kinda interesting, though, is the stationary approach: i.e self root, and just spam damage vs opponents like a turret.. lol would be pretty crazy actually. guys like foob would build 6 NT's on every tower site, and log them as soon as you went in range.
Ofc, you could also simply use an Engi to warp people around to get in range. As long as the engi didn't die, no worries. still, though, much, MUCH harder to operate.
I can see there would be backlash tho from the regulars: like jihanna said, doing quests with toons on follow (I did scheol quest x6 recently... that would have been a 2 month affair for me without /follow).
I play multiple accounts all the time... losing /follow would be annoying but, not as annoying as MBing
as for /assist it can go the way of the dodo too.
For the reason stated above by Jihnna (helping out alts on follow etc) i'de rather see we keep that mechanic for PVM, perhaps it could be disabled when you're flagged and/or in a zone below 75% or so, that could be a good way of handling it.
Don't you just hate this kind of ppl
http://redwing.hutman.net/%7Emreed/w...rouscranus.htm
These are very reasonable solutions.
But none of Arty's ideas which we are currently entertaining would stop, for example, this:
5 NT's + 1 fixer in grid
all toons in grid exit notum controller
all toons leave one after another - all in grace at CT
user fires up HKN
eliminates 8 attackers before a meep is forced.
re-enters grid
repeat.
Sure, it would limit MB from ganking a tower site with ease, but it really doesn't fix the PRIMARY problem with MB.
If multiboxer leaves/exits grid to stand at specific point with all chars (will it be notum miner exit or CT or elsewhere) - theres an extremely easy way to deal with it. For example - send multiple pets before engaging, fire fears from max nanorange (way easier to fire instacasted fear and go out of max range of NTbox before getting nuked, since a chance that NTs will catch you with tabbing all together and nuke you before you escape is tiny).
Speaking of box that has keeper, engi and other toons that resist CC - such MB isn't that deadly on max range distance due to limited amount of capped specials on max range, "perks outta range" and many more.
Speaking of situation when person leaves grid to CT. If follow will be removed - then, in MOST occassions, person will be forces to leave grid toon after toon. In that case - keep OS fresh at CT and fire it when X toons left grid.
Not sure if follow can be disabled only if in 25/5/0% gas areas or while flagged, but if so - that will just tune my idea up a bit.
But I still insist on follow/assist removal. As some people said - follow makes things easier for them, but it's not the way such content was supposed to be done honestly.

This game was never designed for Multiboxing. So the simplest, easiest, the best thing could be done is to allow only one game client per ip address.Using one game client per ip address will also help community to interact more, to help each other, team / raid together, this will bring peoples back and raise the population.
From what i saw FC can detect if one game client running ( when new patch is available ) so they could work something from there, and after the game is detected could make play button disappear when someone tries to log 2nd one ( that bug happens from time to time in old game client ), this will be the simple way, but maybe FC can come up with something better.
Any other attempts to make multiboxing work will fail because of Botters, right now for AO its used the very basic one: hotkeynet( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAF0-n36320 ), but if you check Multiboxology chanel on youtube( https://www.youtube.com/user/Multiboxology ) you gonna see there are some programs much worse than that ( /follow /assist comands can be used by program no need to be in game mecanic, any of the caracters can become head of MB, trigger timers can be delayed wich will make it impossible to detect if the client is using a software or not, can even auto login and auto buff multiple caracters at the same time ).Now with the 8k monitors (11k otw ), 2 gb/s readtime SSD , is possible to log and control over 150 caracters on one PC, a good programer could also synergyze 2 or more coumputers. One day some maniac might do it, and i dont know anyone sane willing to be around when that happens. Even without any software, just simple alt+tab multiple characters it's almost same damaging, Multibox age has to end now!
The only way is one game client per ip address.
Everything is in place and ready for it, its time to go back to inception . As for the peoples with multiple accounts they can petition and merge all accounts, and from there buy more character slots and transfer all into one( that will be a little costly but they can afford and its a good spank for making our friends leave the game ), and to be more helpful PROFESSION CHANGE : yes just like breed change was introduced, there are alot of peoples unsatisfied with their profession.Same as Breed Change, Profession Change could be added to item store but it has to come with a cost like losing all research ( LE 0 ) and all dust brigade nanos, this will help: veterans will team with new players in inferno missions and dust brigade quest. With this two suggestions everyone has only to win, none getting banned and the AO community will get more united. How is this for a social experiment?
Getting rid of assist should be step 1. It addresses 99% of the unfairness of MB in PvP.
If MB is still an issue after that change go ahead and remove follow, but honestly I think assist removal is all we need. That would shake up mass PvP too, which would be a nice update.
Damn, really? Well then we need FC to step in if that's the case. I'd like more detail on how well MB would work without an assist ability. I would think if it's still workable it can't be too easy.
I guess poor man MB without assist could just tab and spam specials in a PvP scenario and hope for a valid/right target.
And because mbox has many alts on same locaiton those would tab in exact same sequence and be synched and fire on same target without need for assist at all.
Easiest way would be simply to say "Dear community, due to popular request multiboxing is nolonger allowed in competitive pvm and pvp... This is a warning, if we see a complaint about players missusing it we will hand out short term bans to people who use it in hurting way."
