You know, you could always go for a good ole D70 body. It may not look like much, but its a pretty decent body AND it has it's own motor, meaning you can use old but still good lenses that don't have their own motor.
Since you want to use the combo with a telescope, you'll need a very light strong lens, and those old ones without a motor are pretty cheap nowaways, since you can't use em with most modern dslr cams.

Where was it when I first heard that sweet sound of humility?
It came to my ears in the god damn loveliest melody
How grateful I was then to be part of the mystery
To love and to be loved
Let's just hope that is enough

It's there for, like, artistic value, man. Composition. Dynamics. It's all very technical, you see.

Update, got a Canon EOS M for my GF. Since it's basically the same as a 650 D, and i can use all my lenses on it.

More like a guideline, than a rule tho...

Sometimes you should/must break the rule/guideline to make a good photo

Seeing a good opportunity ruined by a bad shot makes me sad tho. Don't worry, maybe 2% of my pictures are what I consider "okay".

Most common mistakes are to forget a depth line of some sort in a landscape picture. As a picture is 2-dimensional, you need something to give you a feeling of depth.

Like in Klod's picture, you could have taken the shoreline of the river starting at the bottom left or right moving towards the center of the picture.

That is a good example of how to do it right. The canyon creates a depth line from be bottom left corner up to the middle of the picture.

You probably had to be there. Not possible to do it like that from that spot.

    P.S.
I'm not saying I know what I'm doing (most of the time), when I take photos.

Nothing against you personally, Klod. Your picture was just a great example. All you guys live in great places. Places i wish i would have the time to go and take pictures my self.
So, I thought it'd be a good idea to spread some amateur photographer basic knowledge to make this a pretty photo thread.
