Thread: Ergo's wrath

    Ergo's wrath

The moment Eeod opened his eyes, he knew there was something very very wrong.

He sat upright and looked around.
A beit stared at him. He stared back.

Shadowlands. Yes. No wonder he had this awkward feeling. People dont belong here.
He activated his link to channel42.
    'There was only static noise.

    "Hello? Anybody there?

    Anybody?"

Fed with the same electric, hurt with the same bits of grit getting in our works, subject to the same gremlins, healed by the same brute force, ignorance and big hammer as a human is?
If you program us, do we not manufacture?
If you take us apart, do we not shoot springs all over the floor?
If you oil us, do we not purr?
And if you ignore us.......... Do we not get ideas?

    Eeod threw down his screwdriver.
The beit looked at him, it was slowly chewing on some leaves.

"Nothing works! I can't even build a mechdog shell!
I don't know what Ergo did to me, but it's awfull. He messed with my brain! I have to learn everyting over again. And on top of that he took all my stuff, even my 1000 token board!
    And my credits.
All I wanted to do was to build him a bride, like the Yuttos ordered. Then I get this.."
The beit blinked and then stared some more.

    ...

After half an hour of hard labour he finally completed a shell.
    "A flawed automaton!"
    Tears came to his eyes.
"All i can build is a flawed automaton!"
He turned to the cave behind him.
"I'm going to get some answers, or that oversized calculator will regret the day he was built."

More than a week has passed.

Eeod learned that all his friends were no longer present. He did manage to find a little company called RUR, but the people working there didn't know him, and certainly weren't going to hire him. It was nothing like the company he worked for either. On his third day after the Ergo incident Eeod picked up a communication node. He tried to find out what was going on. People on the channel picked up his presence, and few of them even helped him a little. He got a considerable loan from a high ranking Clan member. Come to think of it, on this so-called neutral communication node a few remarks were already made that he really should turn clan. He had to be careful about those folks.

Eeod stayed away from Borealis although the silver lining on this cloud was that apparently no-one at Omni Pol has ever heard of him too. So probably he didn't have to pay any speeding- or parking fines.

From time to time he tuned in to the node. that was his only communication with others. Right outside Omni Ent he found an empty tool shed. With a little effort he repaired the leaking roof, and for now he had a place to stay.

If only he could find a way to bring his disappeared friends back..
That would probably cost a lot of research..

    "Funds...

I gotta start designing and building again..

I wonder if these people have the need for housekeeping robots..."

Eeod exited Ergo's cave. His conversation with the enigmatic omnipresent machine had been very constructive. Ergo has hinted to locations for Eeod to find materials. His stock of usable electronic components was growing slowly but steadily.
    A Beit stared at him.
    "Hi."
    *blink*
"I've seen you before havent I?"
    *blink*
"Its good to see a familiar face."
The beit tried to nibble on Eeods shoe.
    "you should have a name."
    *nibble*
"Do you mind if I call you Dave?"
Eeod interpreted the sound of a bowel movement as a positive reaction.
"Good. Nice to meet you Dave."

    "This should do the trick."

Eeod opened the lid of the machine he made. Carefully he put a battery in place and then he screwed the lid back on.
    "Dave, wish me luck."
Then he climed up the ramp of Shunpike.

Dave stood on the bottom of the ramp and watched what was going on from a safe distance. He was the only living witness present in a 2 mile radius to see a bright light on the top of the hill. It lasted only a few seconds.
then the light dimmed and everywhere was silence.

    Dave blinked.

The mailman reached the hilltop panting and sweating.
    Eeod looked up at him.

    "Mr. Linear?" the mailman said.
    "Yes, that's me."
    "Victor Linear?"
    Eeod nodded. "That's right."
"I've got a letter for you."
"For me? That's odd. Nobody knows me here."
"Well, at least someone in this universe thought you were important enough to send you an old fashioned letter on paper."
    "Thank you very much."
    "You are welcome. Goodbye."

Eeod waited till the mailman was gone before he opened the letter. Who would know he was here? And what woud he have to say?
He opened the letter and started to read.

    FROM: Mr. MALCOLM THOMPON
    TO: VICTOR LINEAR
    SUBJECT: AN URGENT MATTER

Dearest Mr./Ms.VICTOR LINEAR, I represent the widow of a recently deceased Venusian prince. It has been assigned as my duty to seek out a trustworthy person to transfer C30.000.000.000 (thirty billion galactic credits) to an account on Rubi-Ka, but our attempts to contact our local clients have provided useless and we now lack a contact to perform the transfer to a secure account in Jobe Bank. In order to successfully perform the long-distance transfer, a C100.000 (one hundred million credits) deposit of assurance needs to be performed to our Jobe account BA23IT0098SC12AM. Once this is successful, as a reward for your kindness we will provide you with 1.000.000.000 (one billion) credits from the transferred sum.

For further details, please do not hesitate to contact me back. Buffy bless you, kind soul! The queen of Venus and her family will forever be grateful to you!

    WITH REGARDS,

    MALCOLM THOMPON
