Thread: A need for official information!

Exclamation A need for official information!

I sent this to funcom support a couple days ago, since they were so kind as to not reply, I'm going to post it here to hopefully get some player opinion behind this one, as I do feel it to be important. And of course, any funcom people should feel free to speak up.

Since this seems to be the only way to get a message through to people at funcom, I am going to make a request. Please get one of the designers to put something up on the community website regarding what is happening specifically with the various professions and the work that is being done or considered, and the order in which we can expect changes. I am tired of the official forums, and the endless runaround we the players get from various funcom "authorities". I frequent various fansite forums and see people who have posted email discussions with
GM's and support and then go on the AO official forums and see Cosmik or Cz directly contradicting what was told people elsewhere. You guys really need to get your stories straight and I think a profession specific section to the In Progress portion of the website would be the best way to do it. Break it down for each profession specifically what is being worked on for the next up patch, what is in the works to be seen soon (soon being no greater than 3 patches away), and what is just floating around in the idea area.

Remember that "No suprises policy" those 'specialists' were going to implement that funcom supposedly brought in to enhance their customer relations, well as it stands the only no suprises policy seen is that you aren't actually fixing the professions. You keep adding new content yes, and this is a good thing, I commend this effort, but little is seen about actually fixing that which is already broken. We need information! If at the very least just to give us some shred of hope that you are aware of our problems and working on it, rather than just canceling accounts because it appears that nothing is getting done. For instance, when will the Armor Class vs Damage system be fixed? As it stands, you may have this massive weapon item pool, but anyone that actually plays the game knows that there are only a very few specific
items are effective based on the system currently in place. Shotgun users use Vektor, Krutt, Defenders. Sword users use Rider Executioners. Blunt users use Sledge hammer. Snipers use the Counter Sniper rifle. Assault rifle users use Nova Flow, Steiner, Westinghouse. Martial Artists have their fists and grossly ineffective and bugged weapons and special attacks. People are being forced into a cookie cutter mold by a broken system. The rest of the weapons in the game are all in all useless and will get you killed in higher levels if you try to base a character off them.

Please funcom support, take my words to someone that will get some change implemented. The players desperately need to know where they, their professions, and the major issues of the game stand in an official sense, and you can't afford to keep driving players away from the game.

Heck, just put an official closed sticky announcement in each profession thread, and update it weekly. Even if there's nothing to say, post a message saying there nothing new to add this week. That way we know someone at least had to open our class area to make the post, even if they didn't bother reading it.

Then if you feel energetic you guys could actually get involved in the discussions. If you don't have a clue what the players are talking about try hiring someone who does, or better yet go test it. I read all the class forums, the general forum, the PvP forum play the game, and work a full time salaried job, as well as go out for a beer when I feel like it. There's no excuse for the low amount of feedback and interaction other than the implied "we're so overwhelmed with panic at how many complaints there are that we're staying out of sight." That's the impression I get anyway. None of the people whining, commenting and discussing this game would be doing it if they didn't support the game. We care, because we want to have fun. We want the game to be the best it can be.

If you guys are too busy to stop and toss us a few tidbits (that aren't contradictions, and are competely valid and relevant) then I suggest you take on a new policy. It's called, step away from the "development process" long enough to openly discuss what needs developing.

I think I speak for the masses when I say we'd rather have slow and well thought out changes than the "punctuated equilibrium" (to borrow a term from evolutionary theory) type changes we've been seeing.

    Anyway I support this thread.

Even with my rapidly waning interest in this game, I'll support this. And hey, if it doesn't get any response, just another straw on the camel's back.

yea good suggestion Ming, even a sticky thread in each profession section that is regularly updated would be a big improvement. I was going more for an actual section of the community website, so it looked more official rather, but if they would even implement what you suggested would be a step in the right direction.

I know you are out there funcom, I can hear you breathing
I want some dialog from you guys here. Speak up.

Looks like at least someone at funcom is awake at the wheel, even if they are lost with the map open upside down and for the wrong country

I just recieved a response to that original post I sent in

    Hi there.

First of all, thank you for the great feedback. Lists of profession
specific concerns and coming changes to each profession is something I will bring up as
soon as I can get hold of everyone again (Wednesday, I guess).

    Contradicting
information from the Community team and from GMs is something we're focusing on getting
rid of. This should of course not happen, and I am very sorry for the trouble this is
    causing.

Again, thank you for the feedback. It is greatly appreciated.
