Definitely One by Metallica. This was the song that got me into metal, Metallica, playing guitar and kicking ass too, I guess. :P Before this song, I thought all metal was trash bs that I just didn't get (was into alt rock at the time, all the top 90s stuff).
Oddly enough, Fuel was the first song I heard from Metallica, I thought it was the ****, and I started working my way back through the albums and was changed forever.
Long live 'tallica.

This song spent so many hours in my head when it came out.
I remember writing the lyrics in the margins of my Maths O-Level paper - I don't think it contributed to my grade though.
Best song - no I cant chose, but best artist - easily this one.
