Thread: Credit Exploit

  1. #21

    Re: Credit Exploit

On Dimension1 i think no1 really cares about credits since you can simple buy 300 Mill on E-Bay for a dollar. Or when you start AO your 1st time you beg 3 other players to have your start-up mills.
Well last time I looked on ebay the going rate was about $20 for 5 million - and wow I even considered handing $20 of my own money in exchange for the ill gotten gains of someone pressing two buttons on their toolbar a few times.

You and your well healed money printing friends may feel no1 cares about credits on RK1. But I'm sure thats the way the french aristocrats felt as their heads came rolling off.

Personally I'm nearly 100 and very rarely have more than 100k in my bank. I don't have a Yalm and every penny I gain goes on desperately trying to keep at least some of my equipment current.

Perhaps not surprisingly I knew nothing of this money exploit till now.

    Pah!

Angry So stupid you get physically exhausted

Hmm..here I thought people had been exploiting while all they tried to do was add some fun factor to the game. I'm so glad you cleared that up for me, Itburnz.

FC needs to do what Verant did and get Ebay to remove all things related to AO that would solve a lot of the problem.
"tYpInG lIkE tHiS or using numbers for letters (D00D!) is not clever, and will get you marked as someone to avoid."

Removing eBay would not solve problems with money duping in the game. The lack of monetary incentive has never stopped people from cheating in any other game before. You don't usually gain any money for using a map hack in StarCraft, an aim bot in Counter Strike, or an item editor in Diablo (the original one) but people still do those things... a lot. I can see some reasons for preventing eBay from listing Anarchy Online items if they really wanted to, but it is totally irrelevant to people cheating. Some people are just cheaters. They'll cheat no matter what the stakes, no matter what the rewards, and no matter whether its easy or tough to play the game without cheating. They like the feeling of getting away with something or knowing some secret that other people don't know.

    You people are hopeless.

I hear "Ban all exploiters" over and over like it's some sort of mantra. Why not just say, "Burn all witches" because that's what all you people are basically saying.

Why don't you form a nice little mob and go to those players houses, tie them up on a stake, and light 'em up? After all, they cheated. And why you're at it, maybe you should kill all your friends the next time they cheat at monopoly. If the banker accidentally slips another player an extra $10, BLAM! Now he's out of the game, for good!

    Riiight...

And if one of you people had a guild, and knew about this cheat to instantly make billions of cred, I'm sure you would be on the banned list like all the others. I know I would be.

It's FunCom's fault for leaving this sloppy code open to exploits, not the players. If you people want to direct some pointless aggression, at least turn it towards the right person, or company in this case. This bug was fixed back somewhere in the v.12.something, and now it's been reintroduced? Someone please explain to me how it is the players fault FunCom puts bugs back into the game that they just fixed.

Because they used an exploit, didnt report it, and got caught...

    Ayvalen

I'm guessing by your tone in this and your other thread that you are one of the exploiters that got caught.

How can you justify cheating with the age old "if the oppurtunity is there, go ahead and take it" I could probably waltz down to the local grocery store, gun in tow, rob it and walk out. Might get caught later on, but I got away with it then. Its a question of moral obligation to the online community you play with. And to blame Funcom for "allowing" this to happen is just silly. There are PEOPLE who work at Funcom and PEOPLE make mistakes.

Ban all who cheated using this exploit (and any other), no questions asked.

    Parse the logs.
Set it to flag any org that had a large inflix (+100m) of credits in the past few weeks.
Investigate the specifics of each credit increase.

There is no 'witch hunt' involved.
The can tell EXACTLY which orgs and individuals explotied.

A witch hunt involves paranoia, fear of the unknown and pure speculation.

Investigating flagged log entries are more akin to a bank robber getting caught on videotape.

It's FunCom's fault for leaving this sloppy code open to exploits

And is it a **** victims fault for wearing revealing clothing?
Is it a mugging victims fault for walking down the street with a wallet full of money?

If you people want to direct some pointless aggression, at least turn it towards the right person, or company in this case

    Let me get this straight...
You are defending CHEATERS who knowingly violated the EULA and ruined the game economy?

This bug was fixed back somewhere in the v.12.something, and now it's been reintroduced?

The onld org bank bug was one where removed items and credits were not deducted from the org bank.

This is a different one where an individual had to exploit latency usinga a macro. This exploit could not have been used unknowingly.

Supporting exploiters is almost as bad being an exploiter.
Do you speak on behalf of your org in your support for exploiters?

    do as the casinos do...

almost all casinos cooperate to defend themselves from thieves and other scum.

I think it would be quite easy for all mmog-companies to do the same. Especially since one needs to use a credit card to play most of the games.

I want all cheaters banned for life (or 5 years at least) from all mmog's.

I hope they will start prosecuting IRL too.

Its still a wild wild west online and people need to know whats wrong and whats right, the hard way.

Uhm... Just to make my place in the discussion: Ban the exploiters.

Now to my little point Deal with stuff ingame as much as possible... I would much rather see a exploiting char (that is as long as the actual exploit is fixed...) be stripped og credits/stuff/levels. It would be ... entertaining ...

The games has been out for about what, a year now..

This exploit has been open for, what... a YEAR now?

    No, dumbass.

    This was a different exploit.
Why don't you ask your exploiting little buddies how it was done.

If they want to cheat, let them go play Soldier of Fortune or Half Life.
Unfortunately you can't ban IP's. A lot of ISP's doesn't give you a personal permanent IP. I have a dynamic IP. You really think I should be unable to play AO just because someone else with my IP exploited?

    Uh, No.........
Do you even know how to do it? I do, I know many exploits, infact just recently I have found out mostly all exploits, ones that are ofcourse *dont work anymore* doesnt mean I used them.

You need to like, REALLY REALLY Do some history work on the game and see whats gone on.

Well i gotta say i agree with whiterabbit, as long as FC has evidence.... Since FC has suspended/banned an uncertain amount of people, i sincerely hope they have strong evidence about this. They better have... Since they havent shown us any evidence, lol, will they at all... (will the suspects even see them?)?

lol people still play this game?
In the numbers that funcom are talking about banning seems like there will be like 2 people left in the game.

Man these forums suck, you guys seem to fight with each other too much.
No wonder the community in AO sucks to a great extent, you all hate each other before you know each other.
Can't you all just get along? I mean it's only a game lol.
Directed opinions at each others opinions are welcome, but directed opinions and thoughts against each other are just plain silly.
If anyone wanted to do a paper on psychology they could take a long look at these forums.

    Even funnier.

I defend exploiters, because FunCom is rampantly banning accounts for no reason other than su****ions of exploiting. However to some idiots, defending an exploiter makes you one too. Pathetic.

I refer to the previous example of a witch hunt.

Look, I'm not saying exploiters are fair to the rest of the players, I'm just saying FunCom should have a better solution than banning people.

And please, if you're just jumping on the bandwagon because everyone -else- hates exploiters, STFU for 10 seconds and think for yourself. The exploits aren't there until FunCom puts them in the game. When you give them the go ahead to ban all these evil exploiters, you're giving them the OK to ban you because you might have accepted credits from an exploiter, accepted items, or just been the victim of some bug that caused you to be considered an exploiter.
