Thread: The way of the corporation.

    The way of the corporation.

The wind tickled the grey skin on Naefens face. Glaring accross the river he was deep in afterthought from todays skirmish. A few shouts and gunshots could still be heard from the other side but the main event of the day was over.

Holding his rifle in one hand it pointed to the ground. A shot he had sustained in the right leg was still bleeding, a few drops hitting the dry dirt that was Perpetual Wasteland. He didnt bother to heal it. Time would mend it nicely enough.
A sly twinkle appeared on his mouth. "Indeed, time will mend this mess."-He thought to himself.

Nanobots engulfed him right after he spat blood-red on the ground. Blood from another hit he had sustained. It would also heal up nicely, but the clan Martial Artist that had connected with his jaw had made it feel like his head was gonna fly right off.
Safely in the grid Naefen saviored actually not going to the reclaim after a a tower-fight for a few moments before he set course for Borealis. Moments later he appeared at the bustling and dry streets of the , these days, very populated town. Many of the people there were familiar to him. Even more bore the marks of recent combat.

There were no time to waste or linger for long though. Naefen immediately set course for the whompa that would lead him to Jobe Platform ,the Shadowlands and ultimately the searing lands known best as Inferno. Running all the way Naefen couldnt help noticing, again, the unison in witch Omnis, clans and Neutrals managed to live in on this side of the portals. "Would it ever be like this on the face of scorched Rubi Ka?" He shook his head slightly never pausing his run. There werent many signs of that happening any time soon.

As Naefen appeared in the safe garden of Inferno he could not help but wonder how many times he come to this place. Safety was the main reason for being here but also the many opportunitys for refreshing supplys had made him come here. Today, he was not really sure what had brought him here.
Serving the corporation would, ofcourse, be a part of whatever he decided to do though. It always was with Naefen.

    Two days later...

Years ago, when Naefen had come to Rubi Ka, the rooftops of Rome werent accessible to him. These days, they were his to sit and observe from freely.
The two full days serving the Unredeemed in Omni Teks name deep in the Inferno frontier had brought him much. Each time he left the Shadowlands he felt as though its secrets would be neverending. And each time it was as though he had missed something right under his nose.
The employees of Omni Tek relentlessly researched and explored the different areas of the lethal Shadowlands. Goods of so many different uses were brought back to Rubi Ka for further research and use. They would be put to use , one way or the other, for the greater good of the corporation. For the greater good by the corporation.
A gigantic machinery that would ,in time, mold any artifact or creature, to its own advantage. This was the machinery Naefen were examining from the roofs of Rome this very day.

Streams of people walking and running in every direction hundreds of feet below him. Items changhing hands every seconds. Missions and orders given. Directions and advice handed down the corporate ladder.
A recruit, a martial artist, perfecting his techniques in an alley. A Engineer assembling his robot outside a workshop. Everywhere something going on.
Unicorn and Omni-Pol guarding the streets valiantly made Naefen smile. Not long ago the security in Omni held streets had been abissmal. He,Naefen, and many others had pushed for better guards and the corporation had given the people of the corporation the best of the best in reply. Omni Tek, always watching over theyre own.

A mild breeze warmed Naefens cold bones. He had noticed, lately, that his bones grew stale faster than before. Cold found its way to him faster than before. How long ago was it that he had been able to hold his posture for hours and hours? He did not know precisely.

The wind had dragged along a piece of plastic up to the rooftops. It would eventually end its flight and fall to the ground where one of the hundreds of little "cleaners" would pick it up and dispose of it efficiently. The piece of plastic would fly no more...
How many of his best comrades had ended his flight on this planet? The names were to many...
Another piece came flying by just beside Naefens head. It made him smile again. There would always be new pieces of plastic. Flying wildly through the streets of Rome. Some would even find theyre way through the gates and out into the wilds. Some, all the way to the Beast itself.

Naefen shook his head and stood up from his crouched position.
"Damnit Naefen, you must be getting old." He whispered to himself as he noticed the moisture in the corner of his eye.

"Better get back to business unless you want to be the next meal on the menu of Rubi Ka." He told himself more sternly.

Moments later a moscito sized Yalm rushed through the whompaas heading back to the Shadowlands.

Most of the Shadowlands lay behind Naefen as hye stopped for a brief rest. The landscape ahead of him was, to say the least, extremely unfriendly. Every turn and every slope could present you to certain death in a heartbeat. He had seen worse though.

The Unredeemed battled the Redeemed over a cause most others knew nothing about. It seemed an endless and most bitter struggle. Naefen sighed as he thought about how many years that war had been going on. It would, most likely, never end. The two factions cruelty were, seemingly, unending towards eachother. Through all his travels in the Shadowlands Naefen had tried to deal with any of them as little as possible. As little as possible for one who had reached Pandemonium that is. The Redeemed had taken the clans in and in return the Unredeemed now backed Omni Tek. The balance was restored in Shadowlands much the same way as it was on Rubi Ka? Could these wild lands be a reflection of what was to be on Rubi Ka. Or were they a remembering of what Rubi Ka had once been?

    Hopefully neither.

Aliens have attacked Rubi Ka and they say it is because of something that has happened here in the Shadowlands. Do the aliens not have the technology to come here and sort things out themselfes? Is it simply us that is in the wrong?
Feelings of uselesness whelms up inside of Naefen as the idea of everything he and his opposition having fought over for so long being for nothing.

"Has it not mattered at all" A shiver runs through his spine as the thoughts take form.

Naefen tuned in to the Omni Tek channels witch were made for assigning to duty and find a squad or force to fight with. Soon after he was running towards a place known only as the "Ithaki Spot". It was named after a particularly nasty brink monster witch usually hung out at a place on top of a mountain.

About twenty different monsters, not counting Redeemed angels, tried to take a jab at Naefens way to the team. He dodged this way, rolled another, and zigzagged along his way through Inferno. The crackling sound beneath his special boots reminding him with each step that a fall here would burn him. To crisps if he didnt rise fast enough even...

The team was assembling at a safe location near the "Ithaki Spot". Naefen was one of the last to get there. Present was an Enforcer, two Adventurers, a Doctor and a Crat. With Naefen they were a full team of six. Able and seasoned was the impression Naefen got from his first look at the group. There were no room in Inferno for anything else.

They started walking towards the mountain. One of the adventurers ,the crat and Naefen checking theyre clips one last time on the way. They all knew the area all to well. Just around that bend they would probably run into the first of the monsters. They all started deploying theyre nano programmes amongst themselfs. A few moments later they were as ready as they would ever be. The Enforcer ran out first, charging.

The monster was startled at first. It did not knew witch way to run but soon identyfied the oncoming giant. He had seen the likes of him many times before. The memories of all those stinging blows he had taken awoke a rage in him witch ,to describe, is impossible. He met the Enforcer head on and the two started exchanging heavy blow after one another. Then in came the two Adventurers and the Crats pets. The monster was going to loose, he realized through his frenzy and emitted a groveling howl. The Doctor rushed in to heal the Enforcer while Naefen and the crat, knowingly kept theyre distance, fired at the monstrosiy from afar.

To the groups despair, three other of the monsters had heard the first ones howl and now came rushing in with gigantic arms of rock above theyre heads ready to crush anything in theyre way. The group knew that already they would find out if they had prepared well enough for this. The Enforcer played his part perfectly. He drew the attention of all the beasts to himself leaving the Doctor, with the aid of Naefen and the two adventurers, an easy job of keeping him alive. It was perfect. It was a symphony of death and destruction. The instruments were bullets, swords and nano-energy.

Hours went by. At last the group was satisfied with todays work and started fighting theyre way back to the safe place once more. They all congratulated eachother with a job well done and ,each and one to himself, sent a silent thought to Ergo whom they knew would be very pleased today. They dispersed and went each to theyre own.

Naefen paused at a nearby hilltop and turned around just in time to spot the Doctor casually jogging south. A wide smile came accross his face as he realized he would not forget that doctor. Nor would he forget the others who had fought with him that day. Memories lingered strong here in the Shadowlands aswell as on Rubi Ka. The intensity of how they lived here forged friendships and alliances as strong as could be.
They would not be forgotten easily, those who had braved the dangers of this utter Anarchy.

"They say it was the same type of rounds used in a normal X-3 General...."
Rednalreden`s voice was dripping heavily with sarcasm. He and Naefen both knew bullets like that.... one bullet like that..... couldnt possibly have brought down CEO Ross that easily.

    "An X-3 indeed?" Naefen answered.

Naefen and Rednalreden had used the time since the shot to gather all rumors they could find. The agent network inside Omni Tek was vast and little went unoticed.

The way Omni Pol was gathering information was direct..... even brutal. The network of agents garnered ,atleast, the same amount of knowledge. Only there werent anyone knowing of it.

"So this is everything we have then?"
Naefen asked looking down at the pile of reports and notes lying on his desk.'

"This is every possible clue we can get our hands on?"
    He continued.

Rednalreden shifted from one leg to another whilst picking up a bloodied note from the table.
"Well, there is one agent we havent been able to reach....... Ma.."

    "Shhhhhh" Naefen suddenly interupted.

Rednalreden looked straight in the eyes of Naefen.
    They both knew and understood.
A long silence followed between them and they both skimmed through the materials on the desk.

    Finally Rednalreden broke the silence.
"Much is happening on this planet."

Naefen started to pour them both a drink. Until he handed it to his fellow Disciple not a word was spoken.
"Maybe to much for us to handle Rednalreden. Unless we get our hands on more steadfast material than this it might truly be way to much for us to handle."

Arrests and interrogations had been done. Reports had been received from everyone known to be in Omni Ent at the day of the shooting. So far no steadfast result had been found.

Naefen and Rednalreden, two agents in the Disciples of Omni-Tek had been working frantically over the last week. Filtering and cataloging hundreds of reports and rumors. In the end they found that all they could do now was to wait. What bothered Naefen the most was not even having the slightest clue as to what he was waiting for. Surely, he waited for news of CEO Ross`s recovery. But somehow he felt that would not be the most dramatic news on the way. There was something going down, something hidden.

The highly and rich decorated hallways of the HQ building always lightened his mood when he had the time to casually stroll up and down its many quirks and twists. He had removed his armor for the day and now wore the Captains cloak of the Disciples of Omni Tek. He was quite pleased with the garment Omni Tek had issued them and found himself wearing it more and more often. He didnt realize he had lost himself in thoughts and had been walking the halls for over an hour when a voice literally boomed through the hallways.

    "He is back!!!"
It had to be Harios around the corner.
Naefen started walking towards the yell fast and soon saw ,what he thought must have been, the happiest Atrox he had ever seen.

    "Whats this screaming Harios?"
Naefen smiled back at him affected by the gargantuan enforcer`s mirth.

"He is gruff as only he can be, nearly punched me for hugging him, but he is back!!"
Harios yelled again. He swinged his arms out wide while explaining, obviously gorgetting his massive sword as he cut a wallpaper in half in the process.

Naefen looked at the destroyed painting, a gift from Omni Com to the Disciples, then up at Harios again.

"I mean...... The tiny one. He came back from his trip finally!!"
Harios started lower and ended in the same high pitch as before.

Naefen shook his fist at the big Atrox and took a fast step forward. He reached him to his belly, just.
"Who damn you! Who came back!!"
Naefen couldnt help but finish with a smile though at the amused expression in Harios` face.

"Countash! He is outside talking with the rest of the guys. Come Naef! Come!"
Harios practically screamed before turning and running out.

A moment later Naefen exited the HQ to see a rather large group standing outside. Everyone circling what seemed to be a lump of armor with a gun sticking out of it. It was Countash.

People was asking him where he had been and what he had been up to but got no real answers from the slightly irritated Atrox soldier.

    "Walked long..."
    "Killed monsters..."
Those were the answers he was willing to give.

A long time ago, when Naefen first met Countash, they had locked gazes and Naefen had seen th anger that had always welled inside this tiny Atrox.
Now that Countash ,briefly, looked up at the stairs where Naefen stood smiling he understood one thing perfectly clear.
The anger was still there and it was good to have it back at his side.

How many days have I done this?

Luxury had fallen easily to Naefen. A long time ago, when he had joined the Disciples of Omni-Tek, he had lived practically in his Yalmaha. Parking it on a rooftop somewhere and go to sleep was an everyday routine back then.
When the Jobe Researchers had discovered the Shadowlands he had quickly gotten used to huddling up around a campfire or in a garden. He had even slept right on the freezing ice in Penumbra over a particulary nasty period of his life.

Banishedsoul, the org President, had ended all that for the most part. By promoting Naefen to a General he had also promoted him to a life full of all the luxury he wanted. Not for a second had Naefen felt guilt for living like this when so many lived in the gutter. The same gutter he himself had lived in that long time ago.
On days like these the wealth of the corporation suited him the most.

"Light dim!" Naefen commanded into the room.
The light immediately faded into a more comfortable ilumination.

Lying in his king size bed on top of a mountain of pillows Naefen rested his head on his arms tightly wrapped behind his head. He wore the official Omni-Tek outfit today. Not because he felt obliged but simply because it was one of the more comfortable garments he owned.

"Music easy!" He spoke into the emptiness again.
Easy listening hummed softly through the hidden speakers in the walls.
This was how life was ment to be.

A few minutes later three servants entered the room and started theyre daily chores. This day was slightly different. The table was set out on the balcony and made for two instead of one. Red flowers on the white table nicely complemented the heavy red curtains hanging over the windows to the balcony. A balcony, witch ofcourse, was of no modest size.

"Anything else General?" The lead servant asked?
"No thank you Irwin. That will be all." Naefen answered friendly.
He had always been on good terms with the staff. They were, after all, the eyes and ears of the mansion.

A short while later a rather hard knock on Naefens door made him rise from the bed and enter the livingroom.

    "Please enter." He said.

In stepped the lady he had waited for. Her curves was enough to sway the judgement of most men. Atleast the ones who still had a pulse.

"How have you been Nick?" She asked with a pout to her lip that almost made him forget how dangerous she actually was.

Thousands upon thousands of thoughts blitzed in every direction throughout Naefens mind. This....... this Lady infront of him was not what he had expected.
Not too long ago Paxcorpus had been a thief of the worst kind and now he looked at her and could not see anything of her former self. Well, almost in any case. Her appearance had changed completely but the grace she had always moved with still clung to her.
Naefen figured it would be a tough habit to shake since she had spent years dodging from shadow to shadow. Years upon years crawling through ventilation shafts and impossible climbs on the highest of buildings throughout the planet. She and he had met on several ocasions before but the contact had been abruptly ended after theyre motives had collided rather harshly. They were not friends but they werent exactly enemies either. She was, infact, what Naefen would describe as a perfect dinner companion.

Since Naefen used to live in his Yalmaha at the time he first met Paxcorpus and because he knew ,from several confidential reports, about her likings toward the more luxurious aspects of Rubi Ka Naefen gave her the grand tour of his apartment. Paxcorpus, ofcourse, gave no sign of being the very least impressed. Instead she casually strolled after Naefen giving only small comments about the objects he pointed out to her. Objects that might have made a commoner choke or downright have a heartattack right there and then.
They made theyre way out on the balcony.

"I see you have made proper preparations Nick..." Paxcorpus smiled slightly but quickly diverted her gaze out towards the city lights.

Naefen did not answer but sent a cold and deadly stare at her back instead picturing how it would be to push her over the balcony ledge there and then....
By the time she moved to face him again he was all smiles.

"I hope you like it Pax. I rarely have visitors these days so I want you to have nothing but the best." Naefen said while swiping hes hand out in reference of todays layout.

A couple of seconds passed. Paxcorpus had that mischievous smile she used to have Naefen realized. And the dangerous twinkle in her eyes had not changed either. Something about her had always made Naefen feel...... something.
It was not love nor affection but it was a feeling nontheless and he welcomed it. He had been an empty shell for to long.
It was time to stir the kettle again.

"Have a seat Pax. Our first meal will soon be brought to us."
Naefen pulled out a chair for her. It was carefully positioned so that she could see the full effect of the city horizon. At the same time those very same lights would make it easy for Naefen to read her face and difficult for her to read his.

A slight ring of a bell anounced that the servants had come. They quickly had the soup served for them both and a suitable wine filled in theyre glasses.

Naefen looked warmly at Paxcorpus, as warmly as he could in any case.
    "Dinner is served Pax."

They had both played the game so many times before. A little chitter about this followed by some chatter about that. Both of them hinted on many ocasions of theyre previous encounters but understood it was best not to mention it too openly. Naefen congratulated her on many ocasions about her well performed change and looks. He hoped that many enough hints to what she had become would remind her of what she once was and how good it had been feeling.
Paxcorpus,in turn, congratulated Naefen on his newfound wealth and if it was intended to sting him just a little bit she was successful at that.
He couldnt help but smile at that. Maybe he had been more hungry looking the last time he had met her.
It did not take long before they had gotten to know eachother again. Atleast, to the extend competitors do.

"Pax lets be honest. You know well that I have not invited you just for your good looks. I needed to speak to you about some things."
Naefen interupted after Paxcorpus had amused herself by wasting both theyre time explaining Naefen the particulars of her new nails look.

A wide smile spread across her face. She sat up straight and gracefully leaned slightly over the table.
"You know Nick... for a while there I was afraid you had. What do you want with me?"

She had known all along, ofcourse.

"How are those limber fingers of yours doing Pax? Do you still have wh..." Naefen started with a pleasant tone. He was trying to make her at ease with what she once had made her profession.

"Still have what it takes to find the weak spots of any known and unknown security system on the face of Rubi Ka?" Paxcorpus finished the sentence for him.

Naefen calmly sipped his wine. It was the only way he could manage to hide the smile forcing its way accross his lips. Oh yeah..... she knew what this was all about.

"You know what Nick, Im not into that anymore. I have made a new lif for myself and its free of that self-destructive behaviour I once had. Im gonna take it slow and enjoy. People like you are only memories to me."
She seemed so serious Naefen almost believed it. He knew her kind to well though. Hell, he was her kind....

"I suppose working on the clock everyday ,being ogled by some guy name Butch, isnt as "destructive" as life used to be." He didnt make an efort to hide the sarcasm. Instead he let it drip with every word.

"And Im sure there is no benefits or long term agendas to speak of either. Pax, tell me that you miss it sometimes atleast." He carried on gingerly.

Paxcorpus used her napkin then placed it carefully on her empty plate. She nodded towards the railing as an invitation to watch the magnificent city together. As they arose she swooned just a bit. Naefen figured it could have been from the, just about one, bottle of wine she had downed throughout the evening but he thought it best to act the gentleman and was at her side in an instant. Big mistake...
Before he knew it he was on his back. His hand still locked, twisted, and jerked in a strange direction making it impossible for him to stand up. Well, unless he intended to snap his wrist in the process.
"How is that for *limber*" She teasingly smiled down at him. Naefen made no attempt to rise.

"Having the skills, agility, and grace doesnt mean you still have what it takes Paxcorpus. I dont even know if your good enough for what I have to offer you. Im not sure anyone is. Im not even sure you are still you...if you know what I mean." He spoke from his downed position.

The words seemingly struck a core. He could nevr be sure with Paxcorpus but atleast she helped him to his feet then walked towards the railing staring out on the enlightened city. He needed her trust and making her curious while feigning himself to be as unsure of her as she had to be towards him was the best plan he had. He walked slowly to her side.

"Rubi Ka is changing fast Paxcorpus." He almost whispered. She looked at him strangely.

"Information dont flow as freely as it used to and there is no way of gathering the same amounts of information anymore. You and I both know how important information is." He continued. Managing ,through great effort, to supress a smile and instead take on a mask of sadness.

"Information. Always information with you eh Nick? And you come to me for the same reasons as before I take it? Needing a hired hand with no morals and no questions asked? Not this time Nick. Im not playing games your way anymore."
She spoke calmly and directly. She had to mean it. Naefen looked for a sign of deceit but there were none.

He walked back to the table and picked up another bottle of wine fom the cooler. Snagging both theyre glasses on the way back and then pouring them both another glass.

"Now what? You intend to get me drunk and take advantage?" She said with a curved smile on her lips.

"Im not some guy named Butch remember?" Naefen smiled back.

"So thats what you working-girls are afraid of when your invited over for dinner is it? Well, I suppose you dont remember but thats not how we play the games. You call it MY game Pax dear.... Its not my game at all. Its THE game. You were one of the best at it once." Naefen raised a glass towards her and she reluctantly accepted it. She had thought her polite decline would have been sufficent and her que to depart. Maybe she had gotten too used to guys named Butch...

"Its as simple as this Pax. I need you and ,whether you know it or not, you need me. People like you dont just shut down. No matter how much youve changed the core of you still remains. A person is what her skills sum up to. And having the skills you do dont place you in a workers line." Naefen thought he couldnt have pretended to be more vulnerable than this. In a way he kind of felt vulnerable as well. It had to be done though. He wouldnt let someone like Pax get away that easily.

"Its just not what I had planned Nick. Even if your not lying through your teeth right now, and I know you probably are." She seemed slightly confused for a split second. A heartbeat after she was all serenity again.

"Well, there is this medical supplier in Trade that dont apreciate my face very much. I still need to do business with him though but I need someone to make the deal happen for me. It cant be someone from the Disciples since he would refuse anyone with a connection to me. There is five hundred thousand credits in it for you. Its a simple pickup mission. The chance of trouble measly 6,7% and the trader having a spotless record within the corporation." Naefen pulled out a piece of paper as he spoke. Handing it over to Pax who slowly took it and looked at it.

"The details are all there in three lines Pax. All the lines youll need for something like this." He continued after she had read the little assignment.

"Five hundred thousand credits for this?" She looked doubtfully at him. Obviously expecting a catch.

"There is no catch Pax. If the sum seems large to you at the time I must remind you it wasnt before. And it certainly isnt for me... If nothing else you could do the job to buy yourself something really nice. Im sure the guys at your current job will apreciate it. In fact, I bet there wont be much time until you and one of those guys will have your very own house on the countryside with five or more toddlers running around to keep you occupied. Atleast then, the credits will have been worth it."
Again, sarcasm dripped from Naefens voice. Further from this he couldnt booth the Pax he once knew. It remained to be seen if she still had some of that Pax left in her though. He couldnt be sure at all.

"Surveyroom open." He said while still looking at the door she had exited just seconds ago.

"Acc-sess-code-needed." The hollow robotic voice answered.

"No breaks for the wicked." Naefen answered quickly.

The entire western part of the main living room slid open at that. The code was fixed to Naefens voice and it changed every day.
All across the wall were screens and holographic projectors. Omni Tek style surveilance. It had all cost a fortune but it was worth every credit he had spent.
Minutes later the Trox who had flown Pax in and out were spread across a fairly large area. Bob had been a trustworthy driver but there could be no loose ends.
"Just like old days..." Naefen whispered to himself.

Paxcorpus was now, unaware to herself, his eyes and ears. The implants she had received had more to them than first met the eye.
He knew she would find out sooner or later but she would probably understand his need to look out for his investments.

How she would perform the task he had given him was not really important to him. He only needed to see that she was able to act as professionally as she had back in the days they had last worked together....and against eachother.

He was already finished making the arrangements for her next "assignement" and that would be the final test before he would tell her what he needed her for.
It had never been the skills with Pax...
    He needed the killer instinct.

    -Dear Paxcorpus-
-Once the deal is made I would want nothing else than your company-
-There should be a card for you at your home by the time you receive this message-
-Use it at the Yalm vendor in Rome Blue and you will be transported to me-

((This is now running simultaniously with Paxcorpus`s story "U-Turn"))

Naefen grinned as he saw Paxcorpus struggle to stay on her feet in the heavy winds that ravaged the streets of Omni Trade. Ocasionally he found the time to glimps over at some of the other screens in his surveilance room but for the most part he amused himself that the weather was on his side.
The more harassed she felt the more chance he had to bring her out. The REAL her.

She tackled the guards in Trade nicely. She had always been a smooth talker.
A Unicorn guard isnt something to take lightly but she made it look easy. For a moment there Naefen thought he could even see a resemblance to the old style. But she wasnt quite there yet....

Naefen brought his hot cup of chocolate to his lips. It was the best way to relax he knew. Well, second to whisky but that didnt really tempt him these days. Not like it had used to in any case.

Two weeks earlier he had contacted a fairly new band of clanners who didnt suspect to much why information about the trade routes of highly technological medical equipment could land so easily into theyre laps. They were young and hungry for credits. Paxcorpus probably wouldnt have a problem stealing the crate back. Hopefully she would....

She found them some time later. A bit to long to Naefens taste. For someone her profession that is. But she was relearning it was clear to him. The way she moved stealthy inside. She forgot to mute her comm though.... He couldnt help but smile widely at that.

"There is someone in your hideout. Stay alert." Naefen softly spoke into his comm.

    Fifteen minutes later...

Naefen took the elevator to the ground level of the massive HQ building. His clothing was casual and from what he had seen he had a light feeling inside. He thought this was actually going to work. Atleast, it had a small chance to succeed.

His first stop was Rome Blue where he had a Yalm parked. It was actually the very same Yalm that Paxcorpus had blown of the air the last time they had contact. She had thought him to be inside but instead it had been Naefens sister witch she had helped him rescue earlier.
Naefen had screwed her over back then and she had made quite the personal little hell for him afterwards. He shook his head slightly thinking about it. He wasnt gonna let it happen that way this time.
He had practically pulled the trigger himself when Paxcorpus slaughtered the fresh clanners down in that hideout minutes earlier but he knew they were all insured.... hell, he had payed for it even. He couldnt help to think that maybe he had lost his edge anyway.

It wasnt the killer in Pax he was after. He needed that coldhearted fixer for her ability to stay calm no matter how ugly it got. If it came to the worst it wouldnt hurt if she went a little "explosive" but he hoped it wouldnt come to that.

Her next mission was gonna be "real".
Naefen switched Yalms in Omni Trade. Then set course for the place Paxcorpus rented Yalm was set to go.

When he squinted his eyes he was sure he could just see a Yalm coming in from the South-West. He had been here for only half an hour and had thought she might have taken longer to get here. He didnt mind her being fast about it though. He had never liked East Fouls Plains anyway.
He wasnt even sure why he had chosen this desolate area for theyre rendevouz. Maybe it was the desolation or perhaps for no reason at all. Could be confusion but he wasnt really sure.. Some things he just made up on the move and this was one of them.
In his left hand he held a small scanning device witch he wasnt really sure wether it was a good or bad idea to use at this time. He was gonna wing that desicion aswell. Casually resting in his right hand was his alien rifle. It sort of made things seem easier just to touch it. He had lived with rifles for the most part of his life and not holding one usually ment he was sleeping.

In came the white Yalm. It slowed down and gently touched down a few feet from Naefen. Paxcorpus jumped out with a serious expression on her face and he tried to answer it with a gentle smile.... As she was walking towards him he thought she might not have taken as lightly as he would to the death of those puppy clanners so he fixed his smile into a comforting one instead.
She still looked dead serious though.

"Well done Pax. I understand you still have what it takes. I cant tell you how reassured I feel at that." He started out in as friendly a tone as he could.

"I always deliver Nick... you know that." She spoke softly. Her eyes was fixed too his intently.

The Yalm started flying away again. Set for a secondary course where the goods would be taken care of.

"Yes you do. I guess the question I should ask now is whether you want your next assignment or not but I think I already know the answer so here it is." He handed her a disk witch she could take the time to look over at her own leisure.

"The only thing I want is a Yes or No. There will be no strings attached if you say no." He lied and he knew she knew.

"It depends much on you Nick." She smiled knowingly at him.

"How do you mean?" He answered. He felt the scanner heavily in his hands.

"You see Nick I still know the **** I knew from before even though I dont look the same anymore. And the things I know about you tell me those goods Ive just collected for you could have been collected much much easier. A rag-tag band of clanners would never find that kind of transportation routes by theyre own and allthough there is no hard evidence I think I might know who provided them with it. Even the fact that there is no evidence points to someone in particular...... Nick." Her smile was never ending.

"You know Pax I think your completely right.... There must have been*someone*else behind all this. Maybe he wanted some answers and maybe he has them now." Naefen`s expression had no secrets this time.
He stepped forward and lifted the scanner he held in his hand. Paxcorpus eyes the device su****iously.

"What would you need a Sys-TechOT-12 for out here?" She seemed ready to spring away.

"Relax Pax. For this once just...... trust me." He lifted the device infront of her face and it started humming.

"Your going to feel a slight tickle now but I promise it will only be momentarily. After that you will be *bug*-free." He spoke as the device located her symbiants and started finding ways around the small modifications witch had allowed Naefen to see and hear what she had.
Paxcorpus shivered slightly and then looked harshly at him.

"This is supposed to gain my trust? Evidence that you have been monitoring me?!" She seemed a little agitated but somehow Naefen felt she was not surprised at all.

"Pax, I am about to lay my life in your hands so please....... just be patient." He set the scanner on self-destruct and moments later black smoke erupted from it.

    The next morning.

Paxcorpus looked up from the screen at Naefen with a confused look on her face.
"So, basically, what you are saying is that you need my help to get yourself killed?"

"Not exactly." Naefen answered with a smile that never reached further than his lips.

"The idea is to get in without setting off the alarms, then aquire the files without setting off even more alarms, and then get outta there. Its just the getting out that is impossible without setting off the alarms...." He added quickly.

" Now you already said you can get me in and into the recording overdrive system. I take that as a sign of you being ,atleast, interested." Naefen looked at Pax. She was obviously curious as to what those files would contain but she knew the risks involved.

After some seconds of silence, where Pax had her eyes shut to try find the answer Naefen was waiting for she spoke.
"I cant answer you today Nick. Give me some time so that I can think this through. Its the least you can give me since this , after all, is life or death for us both."

"I shall await your answer. You know where to find me Pax." He said to her back as she walked out.

He was left alone in the old hideout in the outskirts of Omni-Ent. These walls had seen better days... The plan could work, he was not the least doubting it. His only doubts was on himself and Paxcorpus. Were they even capable of doing this anymore?
The prize was too valuable to not try. The information too vital. If all went smoothly he would ,most likely, look at this planet in a completely different way in a week or two.

Omni-HQ was at its darkest. Mild rain dripped peacefully down on the ash-dark pavements and light splashes were heard from where the Unicorn Specialists patrolled the city. It was not a cold night at all. Only a warm moisture clinging to the citys every nook and turn.
There were no danger for a Omni Tek employee like Naefen to walk around these streets. He made his way to the alley where he and Paxcorpus had agreed to meet earlier that day. Her agreeing to join the "expedition" was in itself a small victory for Naefen and he couldnt deny that he felt good about there being more people like him around still. He didnt have to wait long for her to show up either.

He heard her before he saw her. A kind of movement in the air as if something human sized moving extremely fast. A smile slipped past his grim expression but he laid it flat out before turning to look upon Paxcorpus. His left eyebrow raised itself slightly at the sight before him.
Apart from the face it was extremely close to how she had looked in the old days. Back when she had straps and belts stacked with items for almost any thinkable situation. Only this time it looked as if the items were generally more expensive..... more professional. She was a machine ready to burst into action. He couldnt help but being impressed.
Naefen wore more classic clothing. Underneath his black trenchcoat though he had his newest set of armor witch he had aquired in the Shadowlands. He had done quite alot of work for the Unredeemed there and the armor had cost him alot. Blood, sweat, and tears as they say...
He handed Pax another black trenchcoat so she wouldnt be too distinguished looking. She took it and slid into it.
"You sure you didnt forget anything?" Naefen asked sarcasticly nodding towards her second set of smg`s.

"Someone has to be prepared for this Nick." She answered obviously aimed at Naefen`s lack of complementary gadgets.

They went over theyre equipment in silence. No words were needed since they both knew what was going to happen. They both knew they would most likely be dead by the end of the night.
Hacking into the computer of the Director of Omni-InternOps was not something you did without certain risks. A risk Naefen felt had to be taken in order to find the last clues he needed. Information on that computer had to be more than what the public knew about the investigations on the CEO asassin. Max, the Director, would know if anyone did and if there was anything Naefen hated most of all it had to be being left in the dark.

Naefen and Paxcorpus were standing in an alley overlooking a guarded entrance point.
"Remember this Pax?" Naefen said and smiled.
