Engineers - persistent pets?

Just a quickie - why not make engineers' pets persistent on logout? At the moment, they only last until you log out, which can be a real problem at lower levels when you sometimes don't have the cash to re-cast, and at high levels when you have to run out and get a trader to re-buff you. They stay with you when you die now, which is extremely convenient (I lost more feeble automata in the junkyard that way...) but not when you simply log out for the evening.

The server already preserves your position, inventory, health, running nanos etc. Why not add pets too?
