Thread: Buffbeggars are ruining my game!

  1. #41
For metas, what about just writing a quick macro that has one of the pets say "Sorry, Boss is busy." Most of us would understand and get a kick out of it.

Or with those great big floating billboards of yours, Metas willing to buff while in civilisation might change pet names to something like "BuffingMasteries"? We might learn to not annoy those who are busy doing other stuff?

Still think Agents should get a "Hide Prof" or False Profession: Other - "Not Buffing" that shows up on char info.

    i'm all for Agents improvement,
but it would be even better just to let everyone
to add a small signature to own info window.

It would solve sooo many issues....
    Not only buffing/not buffing/buffing for <price>/buffing only courteous ppl./etc. ,
but also for example "i have infuses but not mochams yet",
    "i don't team with clan/omni", "i don't buff clan/omni",
"100% RP mode on", "no, i will not dance for money"

I haven't been playing AO very long, but reading this thread makes me incredibly grateful that I am playing a bureacrat rather than an mp. I played a druid in DaoC for a short time, so I know how incredibly annoying begging can be, although in that case it was for rezzes.

Also, when anyone comes up to me and says garbage like , "ne1 got $ r bufz? i ned 2 lvl ken u hlp me plzz????"

I automatically assume that the person is either about 13 years old or a complete mouth breathing moron who can't be bothered to speak english correctly (funny how non native english speakers usually use much better english then some of our lazy american brethren).

    hehe
the problem with AFK is that you have to explain all your friends,
that your AFK is not real AFK,
and if you really need to be AFK for a minute, what then ?

Also in Newland at terminal for example
( window mode, ClickSaver, full concentration on finding this damn item in the right location ... ) -
you have to move sometimes if someone is between you and terminal ( for taking another mission ),
if you pretend to be AFK while moving ... well not an ideal solution

    one more idea:
    remember ICQ modes ?
Oh i would give anything for these modes in AO !
    DND
    Urgent Only
    NA
Invisible ( on contact list )
    ( Available for Chat ? )

    And the best:
DND( NA, Invisible, Urgent Only ) in general, but extra settings for friends !

    well... one can dream

    P.S.
Guess 50% of ppl. would go in Urgent Only instantly

make a set of scripts and macros that point to them:

/say Im sorry, I dont understand, what are you trying to say?
/say I can tell you about Mission terminals, Guards, and Shopping.
/say Mind your language please <followed by /cross>
/say Mission terminals are... blah blah blah

ive got a set for convincing beggars that im an npc, also got one that hints about a static quest involving a leet in tir only works in vic chat tho, but if you pull it off.....
My lungs arent blackened by tar, they're blackened by SIN!

I'm sorry, but nobody, gets begged more for buffs than a MA.
The funny part is how many ppl ask for buffs that i couldn't possibly cast. At level 130ish you're already lucky to find a MA that can self cast LMA, yet everyone asks for it. The funny part though, are those asking for UVC. That is not possible to self cast until about level 194 for a MA. I give out LMA all the time w/o even thinking about it, but i really enjoy those people who ask for "a crit buff".

"you activate SG in someone's NCU" (or whatever).

I realize MA's and Trader gotta be worse off on buffbeggars than MP's but don't hope too much from 14.2. MA's will get new critbuffs (not as good) to cast on others and wranglers will still be in demand (20% OE is a lot of skill points for a lvl 100 engi).

What is strange is that this topic seems to be in line of what most people feel and still I don't hear anyone refuse to buff someone in-game for free. If MA's started charging even a small fee for their SG and MP's for their masteries this would be a good thing I think. The idea that our favours would come back someday in the future is wrong, the buffbeggar doesn't remember us five minutes later. If our buffs is worth something to them why not demand they pay a symbolic 10k at least?

I crit buff for free all those who accept to sit on my biomech helm

What's your peoples problem w/ clicking your mouse twice to help someone out? I buff anyone that asks me and never charge. God forbid you have to move your fingers. I even get imp requests every time t I walk into a store, if it's just one it takes no time and really helps someone out.

Convincing someone I'm a NPC would be real funny though.

You are talking about it like someone is dying on the street without this buff.
I'm mostly angry about these who think,
it's my duty, not a favor
( or too lazy to ask propertly )
    ---> these get nothing.
( btw. i actually used to buff everyone who ask me before )

You play an MP of Infuse/Mocham level or Trader of high Wrangle level ?

    Not true.
I have read here something like
"i ask for buff someone who offer buffs on shopping channel
OR i see he buffed someone"
    --->
add here NL lag, Window Mode / ClickSaver / 15" Monitor ,
now i really better look like a bastard then let my team in 20k wait forever

Sure i buff my friends always and for free + i usually just TAKE my time to buff someone who asks
    really nicely too

But let me tell you something:
i helped already much more ppl. in this game then i asked for help,
and it isn't going to change, even if i start a char with less usefull buffs.
Some classes may do it better without outside buffs,
other less, but dont tell my someone really NEED something here...
It's almost the same as with money,
i'm so tired of ppl. shouting around mission terminals:
"i really need these 5k" LOL

    1. I am not, however you act like it is difficult to buff some1, wrangles yes, infuse/mochams, crit no.

    2. yes, MP

3 How can that be true or false? Anyway if you have clicksaver running just type /say If you wait till clicksaver is done running.

Who cares if they can't live w/o it? It's no reason not to help someone by R clicking your screen. As for shouts I don't always respond, but if anyone asks me personally I'll help them out.

Often it is, first you have to cast masteries before infuses,
then infuses to cast mochams etc.
But the biggest problem is that it's like a huge snowball:
    the more you buff - the more ppl. come to beg you for it;
i have read more then one story about it
    and will not do the same mistake;
    casting buffs in crowded place is like say everyone "beg me";
one buff is may be not difficult, but you got my point ...

bother to name the char ?

It's not RL, its just a computer game, you simply play a role
( the one who say "i need" is just lazy )
    - well, i'm not playing a good samaritan;
i enjoy a lot helping people, really, but only these who i like,
    not just "anyone"
If i "need" something, or better to say "want"
( since no one really need something in computer game ) something,
i first ask myself, do i really need it so much to bother someone ?
Then if i decide, "yes, i do", i ask myself "can i offer something to the one, i'm asking ? "
If the answer is "probably, no" - i don't feel good,
i feel like i owe this person, even if it was "just two clicks".
So i don't belong to these "easy" people", in fact i also don't like them.
I play MP because i usually can perform well w/o begging anyone,
and because of mystery of MP, not to buff half of Rubi-Ka
( and even if i'm in minority, i'm sure there will be enough nice people,
who understand me; i don't play "hydra", i play because of other people,
but not "anyone", only because some some people i like
    thats all )

I hope we can close this discussion
We are just different people, i dont think we will ever understand
each other, no need to start a flame war...

    And by the way:
there is a point for everyone,
where one say "enough is enough,
it becomes rather work then fun"

Don't you think, me or someone like me
could save you from being so far ?
If even few ppl. refuse buffing time to time,
a lot of ppl. will think first before asking
( but dont be afraid, there still will be enough heh )

In fact, it's just an advantage for you,
that there are "bad" MPs out there,
so your customers learn to regard you

Well Howardstern will keep buffing people I guess, if you guys wanna RP as dicks go ahead.
Maybe my view is different because I first rolled a NT and was reliant on our buffs to be as good as everyone else.

I think rather the one who's name was changed from DikFitzwell and HughGRection
    ( http://forums.anarchy-online.com/sho...threadid=25229 ) "wanna RP as dick"

I'm playing a correct and courteous citizen of Rubi-Ka,
just rather "cold" and not "easy",
but being offended i'll fire back sure, thats all

I dont see any offense at all in ignoring beggars while being busy,
or because of any other reason i listed above.
    This game should be challenging,
i would even give an Engie a try, never asking for buffs,
if ( if ) teams would not expect from poor engie
    getting Infuses/Mochams and Wrangles

    /Quantar
( who's name is not creative at all heh )

    P.S.
    thanks for naming the char

lol. That's me, not Howard though, some other toons, I killed them both because the ark of GM gave me some stupid name.
