Thread: Dream mission...

  1. #1

    Cool Dream mission...

(Names have been changed to make it followable)

Soldier: Ok guys we got exactly 1 hour and 30 minutes to do this mission!

    Fixer: Why so short?

Soldier: It's a rescue operation, and the target dies in that time. The reward is much better than a normal mission, but we can't clear the location. We have to get in, get to target and get him out.

(Everyone into vehicles and speed buffed)

    (At the site)

Nano Technician: Main room is empty except for one mob.

    Fixer: Is that mob moving?

    NT: Nope

Fixer: Everyone stay away from the door, that's an alarm probe. It won't attack, but if it aggros onto anyone it will call every mob in the mission, on this floor, to us. Also, the mission will be a failure.

    Soldier: What do we do?

Fixer: We don't do anything. *I* go in cloaked and use a hacking tool on it. If I'm successful, the probe is neutralized, it won't alarm, for 2 minutes. Then you all destroy it in that time. It has a lot of hit points and high armor so make it good!

    (Later)

Fixer: This door isn't locked, or trapped.

Engineer: Still broken, let me in there and see what's up... Using my analysis gadget on it, I can see it needs a nano pylon, and 2x nano paste.

Fixer: I'll grid back and get those, then warp me back.

Doctor: Mission timer shows were down to 30 minutes.

Soldier: Mobs on the move team we'll be cornered in this room.

(Fire fight ensues; Fixer grids out, is warped back by the time the fight is over.)

Engineer: I successfully combined the nano pylon and paste, required some pretty high trade skills (good exp though), and that should restore the door.

Fixer: Still locked let me crack it.

    (Last room)

Soldier: Buff up guys the target is in that room. We have to get in, and keep the target from getting killed, then heal the target to full. Doc are you ready?

    Doc: Ready.

Crat: I'm in first, I'll calm them. That should buy us some time.

(Team enters last room, most mobs are calmed some attack. Big fire fight, Doc heads to wounded target and begins casting heals (many hit points to heal)... massive team work ensues)

    Soldier: Complete!

Others: Had to blaze through that mission, but *dang* the monetary reward was worth it as were the tokens and a nice item to boot!

Damn, that would be SOOOOOO cool if missions worked like that.

    Post Some more dreams

Crat: Ok guys this is a delicate *INTERCEPTION* mission. We have a clan agent in Omni territory that is awaiting a contact. Having gotten his location from GPS we're going to go meet him.

    Soldier: Then take him out.

Crat: Not quite, we're taking an agent who can use False-Alignment: Clan to temporary appear as a clanner. We have to infiltrate the hide out without tripping any alarms, that's your job Fixer, and neutralize any resistance.

Agent: Once we find the contact, no one but me will enter the chamber, I'll go in FA as a Clanner and initiate dialogue. Once I get the info, the contact will attempt to flee the mission and his guards will open up.

Soldier: We have to kill the guards and the contact. If the contact escapes the mission fails.

Fixer: We're under a tight time limit so we have to move fast and we won't clear the mission, but the reward is excellent.

Crat: Fixer and Engy you two know your jobs, bypass security probes and repair anything that we'll need to get through, doors, automated bridges, etc. the Fixer can grid out to get the parts you need, or barring that can move pretty darn fast and get them. Engy you can warp her back.

    Soldier: Ok people let's move!

Cool If I had a dream...

Enforcer- All right team listen up, this is an *EXTRACTION*.

    Engy- What's that?

Enforcer- It's an outside mission into clan terroritory. We have an NPC agent that is currently FA: Clan, but that will drop. We have 2 hours to get in and get him out.

    Fixer- What do we do?

Enforcer- We have to get to the location, the Engy will then use a GPS locator gadget to locate our 'clan' contact. Remember he will show up as an enemy if you TAB select. So be careful who you shoot.

Engy- Also clanners will most likely be present as this is a 25% zone. They won't know who the target is, because he's currently clan, but they will know who we are!

Doc- We'll meet heavy resistance, once in touch with the contact his FA- Clan will drop and will be open target for the enemies in the area. We have to keep him alive and escort him back to Omni-Tek. Fixer, your speed will be crucial you have to keep everyone buffed, if we grid out we'll leave him behind.

Enforcer- Engy try to get in first and find him with the locator, then find a quiet spot to warp the rest of us into the area. Fixer when he's found buff him immediately and say /npc follow he'll follow you. Get out of the zone ASAP and we'll cover you! Ready?

    Everyone- READY!

    A note

The point of these posts, and descriptions, is that there is NOTHING in them that can't be in the game at this exact moment, well except false alignment nanos. The idea of security probes, broken doors, tighter time limits, NPCs interaction and following, all of this can be implemented without changing any existing rules of the game.

Just have to use some imagination Gaute, there can be A LOT more to do than fight fight fight. You could have missions tailored to a specific team and their skills, you can have trade skills be useful in missions, you can make missions ALIVE if you will.

Try it sometime you might be suprised.

    Unhappy hrmph

man, what a tease that was...almost had me crying....

    also note....didn't see any nt's in there...hehe

  7. #7
Unfortunately, NT stuff would require massive changing of the rules to help ungimp you guys... I was trying to stick with things in the game but if you like...

NT- This is a *DEMOLITIONS* mission!

Engy- Ok what do we do...

NT- Well little engy you don't get to come along, its just me and 5 other NTs armed with actual functioning NUKES and we go blow the living SNOT out of the target, over and over again. Then we dance around naked chanting in leet... 'w3 0wnzd j00!'

(Engy backs away slowly as the NTs laugh maniacally at their regained power.)

Really though I'm not that familiar with NTs but I hear there is a plight of being gimped at the moment, a shame too, you guys are NUKERS or at least should be. I wouldn't begrudge that at all.

Any who desire missions like this (note they use the rules already in the game just takes someone at FC to actually make the templates) please bump this thread, and if you like add some solid mission descriptions of your own!

    Example of puzzle...

Everything to make Dream Team Missions exists in this game already. By way of example.

Mission has a room with an uncrossible chasm, but there is a bridge operations panel.

Engineer sees it is broken and uses and examines it to see that it needs a couple of trade skill items. Fixer goes and gets them, returns, engy applies the items (similar to radar repair and spiked food snacks). The bridge consol is active again but now someone needs to B&E it to gain access. This is done, now its open and a Fixer uses a hacking tool to access the computer and an engy uses a engineer bypass tool (these would have to be built and are one use only items) to activate the bridge.

Game now places a crossable bridge across the room.

Every one of those systems already exists in some form in this game. Every rule exists to do this exists in game, all you have to do is reapply the rules in different ways. Voila you've got interesting, team based, proffession based missions.

Fixer: This door isn't locked, or trapped.

Engineer: Still broken, let me in there and see what's up...
Enforcer: DANG YOU FUNCOM!!! you are breaking evrything!!!

Enforcer proceeds to run trough the whole mission getting insta killed while screaming "argh bugged doors!" and the rest of the team is discovered and killed due to no escape from the massive lag.. errr.. mob storm that arrives in a second.

point is .. people will tend to think things are broken in terms of no functional if they make that kind of things in-game now..

however it was a realy good idea tough .. made me drool
perhaps one day the missions will be like that *dreaming*

    Ok... how about...

Fixer: this is a GRID MISSION!

    Soldier: What is that?

Fixer: Well, what I need is an engie, an NT, a doc, and two others to back us up. You and everyone in the grid mission will have the form of grid icons. However, your fighting potential will be translated into computer programs.

Soldier: but what do we do?

Fixer: well, this is a high tech, grid infiltration mission. Hence the need of the engie, NT and my self. We have to get into a grid node, which basically represents a system's presence on the grid, within the grid itself and extract some information. With everyone coded into bits of programs we can defend against ICE if necessary.
    Engie: Ice?

Fixer: Intrusion Counter Electronics. Essentially a security program that destroys viruses, and ininvited guests. Like us.
We will likely have to fight one if it sees us.

    Engie: Ah.

Fixer: Once we get in, which requires a little finesses on my part (cracks knuckles), then we will make our way to the terminal nexus point, which I will hack into and get the info. Which means you, Soldier and you NT will blast anything that sees us. Once I have the info, Engie, you set one of those EMP thingies you make...

Engie: You mean the ones that shut off the electronic currents?

Fixer: Yes. But use the ones that you can set off from a distance. Because once we get to the exit point you need to set it off. Got it?

    Engie: Got it.

Fixer: Now, we don't have much time. Any questions?

    ********

BTW, this is a great thread, Trosida. Glad you started it. But you are right, there are a lot of interesting things that can be done with the system that exists. And without changing it.

Now you have my brain straining for ideas for MPs, MAs and traders as i think they are the only ones that have been neglected.

  13. #13
Well MAs get heals too and could fulfill a DOC role. Traders get better trade skills than engies, so they could do that too.

MPs are invaluable to teams as it is.

Anyway, if there are specific skills and / or nanos that MP (or any of the above) have that could be used in such a way give it a whirl.

I was writing about the classes I know pretty well.

Plus its an object lesson. Rules can be reapplied in different ways to create completely different situations.

    Talking Thanks kindly

Everyone says AO is not the game it *could* have been. Mostly I agree.

    However...

All the rules, tools, and systems to MAKE this game what it could be already exist. Someone just has to sit down and make the templates for the profession based missions.

For mission selection just add a box like (solo or team both):
[] Adventurer (HAH I remembered it!)
    [] Agent
    [] Bureaucrat
    [] Doctor
    [] Enforcer
    [] Engineer
    [] Fixer
    [] Martial Artist
    [] Meta Physicist
    [] Nano-Technician
    [] Soldier
    [] Trader

If the profession is selected a few puzzles based on that profession (or combination of professions if more than one is select) will be spawned in the mission. Additionally, new mission types can be created (like I listed previously in this thread) that can be based on profession. Agents get intercept missions, Docs get rescue missions, Soldiers get extract missions, and so forth.

All the systems are there for puzzles based on trade skill items, missions in the open (like the extraction) and NPC interaction based missions, all these things exist in the game in one form or another. Just take a few days to create some puzzles based around them, assign some to different profs (yes there would be overlap) and let it go!

I know there are some jokes in this thread, but I'm absolutely serious it CAN be done. The game AO was meant to be is right in their grasp.

If different professions can offer more than fighting then the critical need to have everyone equal in combat drops, because a player can bring more to a team than damage dealing. You'll need your Fixers or NTs to hack computer security systems. You'll need your Traders and Engineers to repair broken devices to allow further ingress into the mission.

    And so on...

I sincerely hope there is some response to this thread from FC related people, what do you say Cosmic? (or Cz)

    I agree...

all of these things can be done with the system and your point about choosing a focus profession for missions is good too. And that was something FC said they'd do anyway.

Also, adding things like alarms to hack, cameras to deactivate, and other puzzles based on profession and/or skills would help the classes that are not as combat oriented.

How about a save the NPC mission? One that would require a doc to make sure the NPC makes it out alive?

How about capturing PCs and having to break out or be rescued?
(Capture would be a hold/teleport to a prison sort of thing.)

There are all sorts of things that could be done with the system already created to make this game more like the RPG it claims to be.

    Mr B's Great Mission Idea

(Team mission, Has Poka Dot Icon Sure to attrack attention)

Good evening, (proffesion title here) there has been a situtation in Greater Tir, as you know there are several Omni-Tek Genetics labs around there, and while we have not been able to find them, they are regulary letting failed Experments such as the "Shade" and "Eye" type mutants free into the wild, Most are eated by sandworms, and those that are not are either blasted by Loyal Clanners or die of starvation. Normaly we had to grin and bear this situtation untill 21 hours ago, It seems that one of the labs succeded where the others failed and created an very powerful Verison of the "Shade"Series as just a few hours ago we intercepted an all out contanment failer message from one of the facilitys and it seems the monster has broken free, We can't have this thing getting out into the open, You have at most three hours before this thing gets out into the wild. All of these facilitys have an emercacly destruct switch or some such system, Or you can try and blow up the power generators, Either way this thing can not be allowed to get loose!

Now then thats the setup heres how it plays out

We get to the mission, say just at the edge of the Greater Tir map near the sandworms, close to the shade spawn point

When the group gets there its three levels, with get this STAIRS, The first floor is dead OT, Doc types, with dead OT Soilders say at the doors or logical places, All of which you can loot(Free loot! everyone likes that ) Level 1 is all the standerd Office type seting, Level 2 however is filled with Shades and just dead guards, even better if you have a trail of bodys leading to level 3. Level 2 should have a Bio-lab setup and not terrible bad, on this should be the generators and the destruct switch, which is missing a key guard, If you have a fixer with you he could "hack" the computer next to the switch to give you a 1min time and get the hell out of their then. Or they can head on down to level 3 prehaps to break the coolant pumps(lots of ways to make generators go boom)
And at the entrance to level 3 just have a bunch of blood on the floors, along with Dead shades and dead OT's, only mob on this level is the Uber shade... It should be 2.5x the parts level and de-arrgo after killing a party memeber, to give the other time to run like hell away.
Then if the party failes the mission then a mob is spawned outside that makes hunting BAD for everyone at shades and worms, Make it a say level 250 Shade that hits like one, Inspire High level to get togther to kick its rear,
In this mission you can a number of things happen, From A broken door that can be repaired or smashed in(Engie or Enfocer) The hacked computer or say an Agent can sneak up and plant a bomb on the mob An Adventure same thing, as the shade ignores the wittle Leet. Hmm for other classes, A Trader could umm, Buy a nuke! Call in an Airstrike, Somthing trade related He could fill in the Fixing or Cracking Roles if Nessary, A MP, well
He could umm heal stuff Acutaly I don't think its likely to Get a All MP team so we can leave Mr Priest Out(Pray for Divine intervetion ) The NT could blow the Plant with a time delayed nano Or Prehaps a Little Nuke :0

A Crat could calm the mob long enough to let a Soilder plant a C4, No C5!(heh heh) charge next to the mob and watch the fireworks

Reward is 10 Tokens Per 50 Levels and 500k Per 50 levels, So a minium of 10 Tokens and 500k or a Max of 40 Tokens and 2 Mil

    Well what does everyone think?
    Comments welcome(and needed!)

Me'thinks Trosida needs a job with Funcom...

Good thoughts and a good read. Things like this are not hard to incorporate into games and would stop AO sprialling into a "warriors and healers" type of game.

Funcom would need to improve QA though, because Trosida missed a profession from his mission selection box and all you other beta testers have missed us too
