the future should be able to provide a lot more diverse stock of different vehicles and transportation through its citys then that... wheres our light hover bikes..suited for citys... wheres our group transportation vehicles....

I am currently depressed by my usual standing of the fact that I believe modern MMORPG companies hold out the "dream" stuff, similar to what you're all mentioning, in order to spoonfeed it to us slowly through paid add-ons and sequels.
You can't believe that the developers actually thought that people would enjoy mini-vehicles, especially due to the fact that (because of the lack of sci fi graphical online rpg's) people haven't been shown the concept of miniature vehicles. Most had absolutely no thought whatsoever of vehicles being a "bad size".
What point is there to it, really?
I've been fed this many times, "Reduced lag and better framerates." In fact, I recieved that exact sentence from a GM I spoke to, whom I will leave unnamed. I am a developer, and I know for a FACT that "lag" and "framerates" have nothing to do with it.
Knowing this, the point that we need to refer back to is the point of "Marketting". In college and high-school psychology classes, some of the basics you are taught are that grocery stores and various venues strategically arrange their aisles and departments, as well as keep new and better things for a later, more necessary time and place. This is the same concept. For any person who's played just about every MMORPG that's been on the market, or even MMORPG's that haven't been on the market, this is a very visible aspect.
Not that anyone could blame them, it's most likely the best way, economically, to proceed with the marketting of the game in general.
People want new and better things all the time. There is the possibility of a "drought" of ideas to occur. So what you do is to hold off ideas you know are great, and let a community sit on the already sufficient ideas that are in place. What they have now is getting them money. Lots of it.
May as well keep the great and new things in the closet, to be released with a bang sometime in the future when their product starts to lose interest (most likely due to competition.. Everquest 2 anybody?).

As you can see the models are already there, they just have to make them work with the game.
