I cant see any reasion why they shall ban a name like Nikkidail, Ok i can understand(not that i care) if they ban a name like Adolfhitler, Kukluxklan, ****er etc, but come on, Nikkidail...
If you know who RL Nikki Dail is I bet that you only find that name funny, at least I laught first time I saw Nikkidail in Rubi-Ka.
And how can Funcom know who Nikki Dail is? Aint porno movies forbidden in Norway???

The name-making is a very importent factor for most of us if not all when making out a char in any type of RPG game or any game you might be able to do it.
We do create a character that stands for something and this could be in games like Quake or Star Craft or in A-O these names are not to be taken as trivial - if they were in the first place - they are certainly not after a couple of months of game play.
Some names suck and they suck hard and we all know about those. Problem is that names are for some of us not that easy to make out. Names do sound offensive in one tongue but not in another. If you study the combination of letters that make out names you will probly with most of them find out some part that could be offensive to one or another fellow gamer in A-O depending on the factor that we are all of differant cultures and we are not equally scholard - we simply have different view-points of the situation.
So when it comes to offensive names, god forgive me, even a country name will to some be very offensive. I do come from Sweden - so you could say that I'm a swede - you could even say that I'm swedish - at first you would not pay any attention to it but then you would not know that your both and idiot and a suspected porn star.
Now, when I made up the name "Lamonia" I thought I found out something unique - but you will learn that there is no such in our world today you can always find something. So i searched around the letter combination I had made out as the uber combination. I found something in a book of symbols, LAMIA, I think it was - the explanation of lamia was something that really not was my intention and it was very far from my char or me in RL.
Point is that, if you try to render Names like "NikkiDial" out of the game then I do wonder how far you can let the equivocation go. Most of us playng A-O did not know about that person existed in RL - and there as a fiction - and we did not know that this was a Porn star nor had we seen any films with the star in, though we might have seen some.
If you let this be a fact I think that most of the names out there has to go - I do think that I can have an erotic or offensive fanstasy about almost anytning but thats just in MY head and I try to keep it there.

That's the problem of the world today : anything violence and god related is fine but when it involves love/sex (which gives life and pleasure, being the opposite of violence and death) then it's not accepted.

I'd rather let my kids watch a porn movie than a gangster movie where people are shot in the head and die.
Those who think seeing 2 people making love is more offensive than Arnold in Commando (for example) killing a hundred people need their head examined.
Btw, rename all people with a god mention in their name, it's religion related, offends me and doesn't respect your guidelines.

Then I guess it must be the same in many different languages.
Maybe FC should hire a team of linguists in order to hunt down all these names which after all could be offensive to a all bunch of players...
Anyway, this is pretty lame and more though when you think it's the result of an application that was aimed at helping ppl...

Just when I thought I was beyond being surprised by Funcom...
People do not get banned just because of a name violation! If your name is in violation then they will act upon a complaint or if a ARK happens to see it then they will act. First they will tell you it is in violation
Then they will ask you to choose another name
If you do not then they will change it for you bot to something totally different but maybe to something that rhymes or such..
No Banning for a name!

Trust me, it happened just as I said. There has been NO Funcom employee on here to dispute that. I was never warned or anything. I just woke up in the morning and couldnt access my account. Then I find an email saying I was banned. The same Email I posted on these boards.
Anytime Funcom can avoid a situation they will. Obviously this is a situation they want to avoid till enough people raise hell about it. I haven't exaggerrated or lied about any of the details.
Plain and Simple I was banned without warning for the Name NikkiDial and other PornStar innocent Porn Star names.

I love that they ban people for stupid names, that are not offensive in the least slightest way but their latest internet ads clearly use the word GAAAAAAAAAY! in a derogartory manner.
so its ok to emulate 12 year old boy vernacular and deride someones sexual orientation in a public ad!! but names are offensive?

Nope no one would change my name to 'Porn "NikkiDial" Star.'
I did get it changed to 'Nikki "Nikkidial" Dial' by Exploit lead Genevra, for a bug I submitted.
It has now been changed to 'Nikki "JennyRocket" Dial.'
