Well, SL was a big change in that they added the story more into the game with Ergo and the quests. But previously it hasn't been much a "tale" to hear about all the places on RK. Like all those that Headcase mentions in the last part of his post. It would be nice to have a website where you could read the full backstory/fairytales/legends about all those places.
Its not 100% decided yet, but I have secretly started working on a personal AO website, mainly about Martial Artist, but you can be sure that if I do, it will also have the story and meaning of Shadowlands as a own part. (Also including my previous research on the Enigma)Quote:

Again, not 100%. I need to find a host and stuff, and then get working on it...
But I really agree. It would be nice to gather all this info and get something out of it.
About the Enigma ppl, i'm 100% sure we'll have answers with AI.
Look at their ships and look at the crop circles. :p
You know, the thing that may cause me the biggest pleasure, would be to read a novel after the last day AO is supported by funcom. A novel explaining the whole thing. 5 years later.
I wish they plan to realease a such novel. I would be the first to buy it !
Read this Marius, i'm not joking ;-)
I think Shadowlands is like a precursor to Rubika, Like the portals are actually taking you into the distant past of what Rubika was once like before anyone had set foot from offworld. The creatures like Barratons, lifebleeders, Eremites are just left over remains from the final war that took place between redeemed/unredeemed and the brink mobs had rebuilt the planet as it is today as Rubika.
Whoever spoke about the sealed portal wasn't far from the truth.
You can get yourself stuck in geometry using Ruse of Tarren 3 and Leet form then go under the rock and the portal shows an image of Camelot Castle's Round Table. Grails and all...
While the Unredeemed are corrupted, twisted and powerhungry versions of their old selves, the Redeemed strive so hard to "Act" like the saving grace, the redemption. But, they fail, their angelic image and false words make me trust the Unredeemed more, as they are more honest in all their gruesome ways.
I do think, that the Unredeemed are victims of the source and the corruption, they are far beyond salvation. The Redeemed, they want the power just as bad as the Unredeemed, and when or if they will get it, they will become as wicked as the Unredeemed.
You only need to read this to see how corrupted and wicked the Redeemed are already. -.^
Wow nice find, it only proves the fact that the Redeemed are not a hair better than the Unredeemed.
Glad to know I was onto something there. Perhaps this is something for a future time if in fact they do actually have that image already on the portal... a way in, a way out...Quote:

How suitable that the beast abodes near the centre of the source. Makes me think of the human heart, which we all like to think has a center of pure good, but near it also lives a beast :) Also something to think about that the function of the beast is to guard the good... The word corrupt suits nicely in this context. Because of the corruption, the beast is no longer doing what he was supposed to do, or not for the right motives rather, and they become eachothers nemesis.
Pandemonium is the garden of good and evil :)
The problem is I believe, is that 95% of players think there is no story because it is not handed to them on a plate. Ergo is long winded and boring because, as interesting as he may be, few people actually stand there listening to him rabble on whilst they are peeing themselves in anticipation to run into the next zone for the first time.
The shadowlands has a huge, incredible storyline though people get annoyed because of all the hard work that has to be put in to get anything out of it.
Look above for example - everyone here has amazing points that have blown my mind - I thought I was relativly in good standings with the storyline but this has made me think again. But I still feel like we are making up most of it :P
I get the paranoid feeling that some guy is sat at FC, reading this thinking to himself "Wtf? I only fort dat omni = bad clan = good what the hell are dey on bout." whilst we sit here and make up (good) stories based on co-incidences. I hope I am wrong of course :)
Whilst I am on the subject... Alien Invasion. A cool twist to the storyline, I certainly wasn't expecting it... but what really confuses me isthis .
I think it may have been pointed out above, but what are these markings that can be seen all over CAV? Very intruiging...
Whilst I am on the subject - you guys know that there is a secret language in the shadowlands right? I don't know who wrote it or anything, an ARK told me about it on a tour but there is a language of symbols that apparently we can decode and decipher. Does anyone know of this code? I was thinking - perhaps some of this ancient language is encoded in CAV?
As for Pandemonium, I am very interested in its backing story. It seems to me like it is basically the toilet of the shadowlands where every dead soul of a creature etc is flushed out to, in their soul's real appeareance (no longer trapped by a body). For example, weird and twisted creatures that are killed have weird and twisted souls. And in the source, it shows.
My guess is that CAV will show itself to have more to do with AI then we know.
AO Stratics decoded the runes. Its posted here.Quote:

About the Xan coming to earth - I remember reading that after the Unredeemed/Redeemed split, the Redeemed traveled from planet to planet sowing the seeds of life (As mentioned in the verses- traversing on their 'Arks'), and that the Unredeemed followed and attempted to destroy all of the "new life." That is, until Earth, for on Earth they discovered that the life the Redeemed had planted would prove usefull to them in returning finally to 'The source.'
It would seem to me that if we were planted by the redeemed and we know the names of things in rk and sl though myth and religion, that this knowledge would also have to have been planted in us some way. In which case the redeemed would have made themselves out to be good and the unredeemed out to be evil in this knowledge they gave us. So basing what is good and what is evil in SL would probably be very bias if you based it on earth myths and religous ideals.
Sorry if someone already posted this conclusion, I didnt see it if they did
Indeed, this has been mentioned on many non-pandamonium threads. I think of it as the "Bablyon-5 conjecture"Quote:

And I do believe that by our 21stC moral standpoint both the Redeemed and the Unredeemed are both "fanatics" do remember that the Redeemed created us (and many others) and that the Unredeemed destroyed all of that life that they didn't find usefull. Thats a pretty basic difference.
Also, while I kinda agree with Engelen that the backstory is interesting, I just wish it made a jot of differance to the day-to-day playing of the game. Which is still kill-rinse-repeat ad nausium.
Yeah, this is what I feel is a flaw with Shadowlands. The Story has EVERY single chance of being as epic as anything, but it just isnt supported and used by Funcom. Backstories isnt explained, things are left empty without explanations, even by the original inhabitants of the lands. What about Excalibur`s end? A truly Magnificent and impressive landmark, seeing the holy sword thrust into the ground and the portal blocked, probably to isolate the Holy Knights from the Land that are falling into corruption.Quote:

What about Pandemonium? Sure, Its described as just Pure Chaos, but what caused it? What created the Beast, and the Zodiaks? A floating island of ruins in the center of the source, it represents the End and the Center of the World in a single place.
I really miss a thick, solid summary of the events that lead up to the apocalyptic happenings in Shadowlands. Dargante had a wonderful suggestion, about a quest that we could fix Ergo in Inferno, and by that learn about it all. We could learn how the Beast came to be, how Pandemonium was constructed, was Pandemonium something before it became what it is now?
Or.......was it there all the time...............
As far as what Pandemonium is/was, if you look at it, you can clearly see that it had many buildings in "it". Resembles a bit of a Cathedral too if you really look at it.
Maybe it was a huge Cathedral, covering and protecting or maybe even keeping under control the source and inside it was the Keeper of the Source (I think it was a kid that later died and became The Beast? I read something about good then changing into evil, enlighten me pls) and when it(the keeper) died or something happened that changed it into The Beast, it destroyed the Cathedral .... exposing the Source and no longer "under control" or limiting its powers.
Then used the source's power to grow stronger and even be able to corrupt followers of the factions in SL; Redeemed and Unredeemed and use them to defend himself.
Also, as you have very well seen, the sided(Unredeemed/Redeemed) mobs only appear in Pandemonium and not in any other place. Meaning that maybe the Redeemed and Unredeemed tried to take control of the Source and fought The Beast up to some degree.... but failed to defeat it and in the process of retreating, some of them were manipulated and corrupted to join its side and stayed in Pandemonium, under its control. If in fact The Beast is controlling them and not something else ;)
But as you can clearly see, Pandemonium has buildings and structures of some kind, meaning that there is/was indeed something there. If you look under the floor or around it, you can also see that there are pieces broken and/or you can see the construction steel cables inside the floor.
Im 100% sure, as far as I know, that the Redeemed and Unredeemed have fought and tried to take the Source for themselves. That is the only way that I could explain the existence of those Corrupted Unredeemed/Redeemed mobs in Pandemonium.
I Love this concept art of Pandemonium
You can see the structures Dargante is talking about.
Any chance we can get a screenshot of that?Quote:

Remembering the Omega story i think the Omeage secretly control everything in RK in a indirect way they control both Omni and clan and neutrals and the tides of history are twisted with their hand leading to something that is yet to discover, (someone mentioned early they controlled omni but they control everything) the SL story and the newly arrived aliens dont seem to tie very well here, are the Omega after the source? we know they were humans before so i dont think their part of the alien menace or the XAN or funcom just forgot the Omega story or is it just a small dip in the vast ocean of the universe history and the source of all of it.. it can just be a clash of both history, humans ( solitus ) who came to rk and all the omega story behind it and then the discovery of SL and the alien races.. and now were all fighting against gods pet and the aliens to reach the source and the ultimate power =X
Regarding the folder for endboss ive been listening carefully to the sounds and they do sound alot Alien wich may have something to do with the Alien Invasion, specially the dying sound is very interesting as it sound like several screams at once echoing wich goes well with the source story ,the protector of everything and possibly the beast is not a single entity but several together or part of the source or the land itself =X
Regarding Cav , the drawings are possibly just based on the all "signs" thing and sl wanst even planned at that time prolly, like the faces on ground (similar to the mars face), it is well known devs like to put this things in the game inspired by RL events of mythologies and some of them are used later for a more deep story, while others not, but its nice that the aliens are finally arriving =D
hum, lots of interesting things to research =X.
more importantly we want more novels ! prophet without honor was great but we WANT MORE !!!! comon funcom waste some credits and give us more story =D
