Desert Reet, Great job! My alt witnessed the whole thing last night! Luckily, never had to petition myself but now I know and knowing is half the battle! Too bad we can't throw offenders into a stock and pelt them with stones or those banana surprises they were handing out last night!

3 instances of sexual harassment on my solitus doctor, not wearing ANY sort of revealing clothing, and not even with large cleavage.

Im a male but have been harrassed in rl when I was younger by a female boss. Im very sensitive on this subject and if something like that happens in my company now, I would sack the person on the spot.
Im totally supportive of this thread. Sexual harrassment can be painful even on rk.

But seriously, I understand how this can be unpleasant and I support Desert Reet to the fullest. I hope I can take part in making this game more enjoyable to everyone around me.

The figure comes from a UK newspaper article. They're not tracking your gender, but a lot of research gets done into these things, asking people do they play this, if so do they mind saying some stuff about themselves ... da di da, usual market research stuff. So it's all voluntary (has to be, for data protection reasons).
In other words, it's not an absolutely reliable figure, but it's a pretty good indicator. And much higher than most people would imagine, I suspect.!
It is actually higher than one would imagine. I've heard in several magazines that female/male population is about 50-50 or 40-60 in MMORPGs overall. Not saying that it's true though.. :)
As a male player, I must say I enjoy playing a female character. I think that everyone should be allowed to play a character of their choice, be it gender or age or profession or anything.
Making rude comments or saying things that are offensive should NOT have a place in AO, and all players are equal. Heck, I know a few female players, and they are better than male players..:p

Here's my take on the subject, and some of you may hate it/me for saying it, but it needs to be said regardless.

#2. If the person is following you around and doing that backflip stuff or whatever, either:
a. call an ark
b. just ignore the person and chalk it up to a hormonally challeged 10/80 year old
Now normally, my wife opts for #1. /ignore works wonders. However, if this starts to become a banable offense, then AO no longer becomes a game, and starts becoming real life. I play this game to get away from crap like this, and the LAST thing I want to see is some P'O'd female threatening to use her uber "I'm going to call an ARK on you for sexual harrassment and get you banned because you are trying to sell me something for too high a price." So, if this DOES happen, then the ARK needs to see some MAJOR proof of this happening, and repeated attempts of the woman telling the moron to stop for it to be a banable offense, and not just because some guy tries to roleplay a little and walks up to a girl and says, "Hey baby. Wanna dance?"
Don't forget. Immaturity and abuse of power isn't just for boys....

I can see where you are coming from Fluffytuff. My only request is that you change your "malicious females" to either malicious people or malicious female characters. Just for people to remember that anyone can be malicious not just those of the female persuasion. ;)

Seriously, yes, boys and girls can be malicious about everything, but from what I've seen in court cases, movies, etc. is that it's primarly females that abuse the sexual harrassment laws. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying ALL females do so, but, then again, not all boys don't lift the seat as well.

- if the harrasser is a lowbie/newbie and has less hp than you do, follow him around till he gets out of town, then kill him

/ignore doesn't stop the person from using the emote actions from harassing you. And whether you tell the person who is bugging you that an ARK is coming... the ARK can take quite some time (like an hour? maybe more?) to show up *AND* the ARK must WITNESS THE EVENT with their own eyeballs. They can't just take someone's word for it. They can't just accept a log of the event, cuz the log doesn't show the emotes. Screen shots can be manipulated, etc... So, please, rest assured that Funcom and the ARK program have made it very difficult for those "malicious females" to accuse someone wrongly.Quote:

The sad part is that the nonmalicous players, male or female, have difficulty having their case properly viewed and filed by the ARK.
I believe the Grid is where this incident ended when she could no longer stand having to wait for an ARK to show up.Quote:

Great post, Desert Reet. My org (Rubi-Kan Bikini Team) takes quite a bit of this, and, contrary to popular belief, I'd put our RL gender distribution at about 50/50. It's at best embarrassing, and at worst nauseating. Granted, the whole theme of my org caters to us wearing the more revealing social clothing from time to time, but that's neither an excuse nor an invitation for such behavior. Good to know that FC takes it seriously though, and again, thanks for bringing it to the attention of the community.
um.... using MOVIES as your support isn't a very strong argument. And are the court cases ones that you have researched extensively or just the ones that you hear about in the news or through the grapevine? I don't think that manipulating the system is just for the girls.Quote:

but anyhow, that's not what this thread is about. This thread is for any one playing any kind of character in AO who is being sexually harassed (or probably any kind of harassment) by another player of any kind of gender possible in the game. I don't think the point of this thread is to say that girls are always victims or schemers or that boys are always bad or whatever...
I do agree that if you don’t like what’s going on and you tell the person to stop repeatedly they should. On the other hand all my toons are male and as far as I know I have never sexually harassed any other toon male or female. But on several occasions I have been sexually harassed by female toons of course being me I didn’t tell them to stop may have even encouraged it, it was all in good fun in the end.
I guess what I’m trying to say is I don’t want people changing there play stile or role playing because there afraid of getting banned. It’s role-playing and there should be room for the aholes dirty old men and trashy girls since they are a part of rl. But as far as unwanted sexual advances I agree that this should not be allowed if you tell them to stop there should be a way to make them stop just like in real life. This is were this faq will come in handy.
I’m really glad to see that ark is watching the person instead of just taking someone else’s word on it to keep it from getting abused. As far as screen shots well I have done many things that could be misinterpreted by a single screen shot. And your personal logs can be altered.
I still wonder how that female toon was crawling around my feet the other night. And by far the worst and most disturbing things I have heard in this game always comes from the same group of female toons they hang out in the same area almost every night. Although I like the fact that they are aloud to do this and wouldn’t want to see it change there all low level and I think they have been on much longer than me. I think they made these I’m guessing alts just for this purpose to talk to each other. And if you don’t want to hear it all you need to do is walk away from them since they’re sitting and talking in vicinity.
Sorry about the rant this post made me happy and flustered all at the same time. It made me happy because there is a way to stop true harassment. it made me flustered because like charges of sexual harassment in real life it could make people scared to have fun and joke around or just be there nasty selves in the fear that there going to get banned. The company I work for is about 90% female and this place would be a sexual harassment lawyer’s dream but none of it is unwanted or means anything and in my opinion makes life interesting.
Hope this made since to someone beside me, maybe I will post again and try to make more since. Desert Reet I support this totally just don’t want to see a part of the game I like go away maybe there could be another server just called nasty.
