Your poor logic can be applied to Rubi-Ka melee weapons as well.
Sure, an energy cannon probably does more damage than a glock. Then again, there's not many claws that spray burning chemical acid into your wound as they cut with a monomolecular blade in reality either.
As for weapons? Gee... I dunno. I only played a soldier to level 79 before I got bored with the profession. Really, I don't need to know the exact gun. I just hear soldiers gloating over their 10k shots and other frequent massive amounts damage in-game. It seems only on the forums can you find soldiers than don't do ridiculous amounts of damage, as they seem quite happy informing while in a mission every single time they annihilate something.
If you still don't get why melee is supposed to do more damage than ranged, just accept that it's a game mechanic. You get the benefit of range at the cost of damage. Melee gets the benefit of damage at the cost of range.
And the argument that, "who's to say how well soldiers will be trained in the future" is just so open to, "because I said so!" but I won't go there. Rather who's to say how well they aren't trained. It's a pointless argument. Is the glass half full or half empty?
