How about posting the Patch DAY?
How about posting the patch day, even a tentative patch day, on the website somewhere?
This gives people advance warning (ie: "Patch scheduled for tomorrow"), or at least calms them down (ie: "The Patch scheduled for yesterday has been postponed. No ETA.")
That way you don't end up with 100 people asking if there's a patch today, if there's a patch tomorrow, and when the heck is the patch actually coming out?
Keep the customer informed, keep them happy, and dammit, fix those backpack/inventory gnomes!!!

I would be very happy to have a date to.
If they don't give a day, I think it is because they don't have already fixed a day . If they give a false info they will have even more players on their back (it won't "calm them down" as you wrote , )).
