Change In Security
Gerbel
The Newland City Council has begun talks to review a proposal that would seek new means of securing the town of Newland.
A fundraiser was hosted by the citizens of Newland, and with the support of Omni Sub-Departments and Clan citizens; a total of over one-hundred and fifty million credits has been generated so far. Many felt that it was time for the city of Newland to begin depending on itself, and no longer look towards the Omni aligned Mercenaries that are currently "protecting" the city. Neutral citizens hope this new proposal will provide a level of comfort and security not possible under the biased agenda of the hired guns currently walking the city streets.
The City Council is taking its time to carefully consider all aspects of the publicly proposed Guard Replacement Act which would substitute custom designed 'Guard Robots' in place of the current forces. Despite massive public approval, Council representatives said that no decisions have been made yet. Deliberations are expected to last into the New Year. During this time, the proposal will be scrutinized and potential contracts will be examined. Bids are being placed by top robotics companies across the planet in hope that they might land what would certainly be a highly profitable and likely long-term partnership with the Newland community.
A City Councilmen who spoke only on condition of anonymity said that, "Changes of this scale are never as easy as simply terminating one contract and signing another. There are other issues to consider before taking action, especially when the economy and safety of our city is part of the equation."
With all this commotion much pressure is being put on the council to make a quick decision, though that seems highly unlikely. A press representative of the council stated recently, "The Council has always been cautious about making such drastic changes. I can assure you, our citizens, that we are examining this proposal from every possible angle, and will keep you informed of the progress of our deliberations."
Considering the potential increase in the cities GDP should Clan business be allowed in city limits, it stands to gain a great deal should this proposition pass. Though many are concerned that bringing both Omni and Clan citizens into Newland may create a safety concern with or without new guards. At this point, the only thing that can be said with certainty is that all of Rubi-Ka will be closely watching the Newland City Council as this develops.
