well we all know that AO serveurs are to weak for the use we need, lag is often present in AO ....
.....BUT yes the capabilitie of the serveurs is awesome, I mean we are not spread out on 20+ serveurs with 300 players on each (who said AC2 ?).
We are all together on a big serveur (may be 3 :P), and it's pretty cool, one of the reason for witch AO is actually the best mmorpg for me

aye, I do LOVE the idea of being in the same 'world' with 10 or 20,000 people instead of 2.

But could the writers of that article possibly be biased? Bah, maybe not actually. True, thsoe guys have been playing ao since forever, but I've tried other mmorpgs and I gotta say that AO is still best in my opinion, warts and all

Nope, we've played almost every MMORPG out there and while there are problems in AO, they are tolerable. No game is perfect. It's all about what you feel comfortable with and which one you enjoy the most. AO is not just an addiction to games, its an addiction to people. You take away levels, nanos, professions, pretty graphics, and weapons and what you have left is a community of people you love and enjoy. The rest is just icing on the cake.

Yep. Love AO and love the fact that there are only 3 servers. Makes for a much closer forum community too, I think, because the people here can very easily meet in-game and vice versa.

I haven't played enough MMORPGs to judge whether or not the award is justtified, but I'm certainly not surprised.

Sure. I think AO is the best mmoprg out there. I love the theme, what the devs have done and the people that originally "made" the game itself. Arguably, some people say the first MMOPRG you play will be the one you like the most. AO was my first, but I've had ample time to try others out there and nothing really plays my string like AO.

However, while I love AO, I don't love Funcom one bit. The CS people have a thing for alienating their fanbase and it creates far to much ripples in the water (for some) to be able to enjoy what AO could be with a better CS team behind it.

With that said I hope Funcom will realise their mistakes and enhanche their perfomance before AO dies. Verant is having a 2nd go now with SWG and I hope they have learned from EQ. I would love to see Funcom learn -before- AO2 (if there will ever be a thing like that)

Btw, Jive Magazine? Best MMOPRG? .. it just doesn't "click" right, to me atleast. heh

Have to say that I've never had a problem with the CS in AO. I suspect most people who do claim to have a problem with it just have unrealistic expectations. The rest probably have had a real problem, but I doubt you'll find it any different elsewhere as CS anywhere will be made of humans, and humans are fallible.

Is it perfect? Nope, but nothing is. Sure, pointing out problems is always a good idea. If nobody points problems out to you, you'll probably not even be aware there are any. However, screaming and ranting about it isn't a good approach, despite being the commonest one round here...

You are very correct, however, this is a very social game. And what happens when your friend get's banned or slammed for something he was not guilty of? Purely based on grief from the CS team? Or any other shady reason for that matter. The thing that will happen is that you, even tho not directly affected, starts to trash FC CS' because of what they did.

Verant had to take trash, EA/WW is taking trash atm and Funcom, in the midst of it, probably didn't take any more trash than the other. But, for once, I was at the end of the wrath path of the CS team for weak reasons alltogether. So to me, and to my closest friends, Funcom CS suck and will most likely continue to do just that.

It's all in the eye of the beholder, which in this case is in the eye of the -affected-. I was pleased with Funcom CS for 1 year. Slow, but I really didn't demand much. It was only toward the end when I saw how they treated close friends of mine, and ultimately treated me, that I lost all my faith in them.

Morale of the story? Not much cept no-one can say this or that about the CS team. Their treatment varies (as Genevra herself said in her article "depending on my mood" *duh?*) and might vary due to other reasons aswell. Further bring this down the line and compare it to eachothers expectations, the results will be very spread. Some think it's a blast, some think it's mediocre, some thing it blows.

I do not admire theire job since they are beeing hit with more dirt every day than most others, and I for one would never take on a job where pleasing pissed off customers / or pissing off customers are every-day tasks. Reason for this is pretty clear. I would abuse my power and my friends would gain advantages because of it. Atleast I'm honest about it, which is more than can be said about certain people at Funcom who manage to post an article on the first page of anarchy-online.com, filled with lies and inconsitencies about his/her past, promising the masses a shining world, when infact Rubi-Ka is corrupt to the bone.

Finding people who will not abuse theire power is not an easy task. Eventually even the most honest people will get fed up with whining customers and inboxes packed with complaints. The easy way would be to enforce silence thru bans and suspensions. It might work without complications in certain situations, but it's very hard to enforce such a powerdrift in a MMOPRG, where socialism is they key, without alienating their entire fanbase sooner or later.

The likes of SWG, EVE etc.. promises to be something worth checking out, but noone knows for sure. I love AO. I dig the idea. It's a good game. Got ruined for me tho and I've learned alot from it. Keeping a high profile and taking sides with people treated poorly by the CS team is not a good idea. I did this first chance I had, and I suppose I've been a thorn in the eye for the CS ppl for some time, and that I was a sitting target waiting to get a headshot my way.

Either way, have fun in the game and don't let it be ruined by the politics of the forum, Funcom or the anti-Funcom crowd. Most likely you will never have a direct problem with Funcom or any other game-company. Follow the rules, play nice, make friends, go low on the anti-fc propaganda, and there is nothing that will point your account towards trouble.

PS. Random bans is a myth. There is always a reason. Driven by fair judgement, powerhunger or neither, there is always a reason.

ca0l - an interesting post. In CS as it exists in a MMORPG, you will always piss people off, because you are also the game's police (and there are plenty people who dislike the police for whatever real or imagined reason). It's the same here.

In cases where seemingly minor offences have led to banning, I suspect that it wasn't the original offence that led to the banning but how the player reacted to it. In dynamics there is a law that states that for every action, there is an equal but opposite re-action ('action' is a specific concept in terms of the maths here, but its usually taken to mean the more general idea of an action). In social dynamics, there is a similar 'law', the main difference being that the re-action is rarely equal, and usually out of proportion... and so it escalates... People in CS can get as pissed off and angry as the next person... worth remembering...

As for front page post on the main site. I doubt that any such 'lies' are deliberate. Any games company has big ideas... its part of the job description really, but the implementation is often a different matter, either proving to be beyond their capabilities or far more involved than anticipated.

I'm sure that mistakes do get made, it's to be expected... and peoples perceptions of events always vary... often as not it can boil down to one person's word against anothers. That's life I guess.

The last paragraph (not the PS) is the sort of thing that should be obvious, but all to often isn't to many. if you go looking for trouble (in whatever way), don't be surprised when it finds you. If you're not looking for trouble, then you would have every right to be suprised.

    Hmm, rambled on a bit...

I really liked your wifes article. I know I have a "problem" and found myself identifying with everything she said. I have a husband who also plays MMORPGs, though not AO. I also have a 23 month old son who helps me to keep my hold on RL. But sometimes I sit back and wonder what will happen in the end. What will he think of me if he grows up seeing me in front of the computer as much as I possibly can? AO doesn't effect my social life luckily, since I never had one to begin with. AO actually IS my social life. So.. maybe one day I'll have the strength to give up that respect your wife wrote about, and my friends. The friends that I have made that are more real to me and better than the ones I have ever made in RL. That might sound pretty pathetic to most of you out there, but to a personality like myself, making friends in AO is 99% easier and more comfortable than in RL. I suppose for the good of my family one day I will have to leave.. but it sure would hurt..

    I really don't know..

But anyways, I don't try to hide the fact that I'm married. Yes, a lot of people act more differently to me when I tell them and don't seem to really want to talk to me or be my friend if I'm not available. But if that's they way they think, I figure I never needed them to be my friend in the first place.
