    Post

I can see where both sides are coming from here...
(being a teenager) it is true that the word "gay" is used a lot, it is not said to insult that particular group, its said as a expression (just as Dropcid said).

but homosexuals do get a lot of stick for being what they are; and its something they can't change.(getting "stick" means you get a hard time - sorry, i'm from England, we do have a lot of strange sayings...or, at least, I do ).

regardless, Funcom was not correct in putting this in their advert.
its bad enough with people saying it all the time anyway, funcom doesn't need to join in too.

Note: I think people using the word gay is because they say it without thinking about what it means, but, I believe, it isn't being used to insult homosexuals personally.
I must warn you that I fight very dirty, I spit and fart and soil myself

    Arrow Ok, but

Wait a second. Ok I understand everyone's complaints about this ad. Personally, I think this "gaaaay" with his eyes rolling means "lame." Aside from that, has anyone actually seen this ad outside of the FC or PVPOnline sites? Cause if not, then it's technically not an advertisement. It's sitting in an archive on the FC site, which mainly people who already have this game go to. And it's on the PVP site, which already has it's target demographic, people who would find that ad funny, going to that website. So this ad isn't really hooking anyone, unless I'm wrong and someone has seen it somewhere else.

And on top of that, omega, The ad was created BY pvp, not by FC... using the PvP characters.

So, if someone thinks that homosexuality is a disgusting perversion of a relastionship that should exist between a man and a woman, then they must be a 16 year old, immature male?

    Talking pvponline

I just read all of the comics for the month of jan and laughed my a$$ off! after reading the comics I see that the gaaay remark is a refrence to LAME nothing else. this proves how ignorant people are and how quickly they can judge something they do not understand, try understanding what someone means before you flame away about WHAT U THINK they meant!

Dude I think Pollitcally Correct Online would be hella fun! Instead of Biofreaks, they would be "Genetically Challenged." And all skimpy outfits would be replaced by a bureacrat suit, for that power 9-5 female. Oh yes, and there will be no more atrox, because their incapability of reproduction offends spayed and neutered animals.
    They're defending themselves somehow!

Firstly, everyone at Funcom thinks the new ad campaigns are humorous. (And of note, there are quite a few females in Marketing)

We did stop to consider if these ads would be offensive before we gave the go ahead, and we did expect that some would get offended since we also know some people are offended by a portion of Anarchy Online's character models and clothing. But we did not (and still do not) consider them sexist or homophobic, and it was never our intention to promote such ideas. The ads are only in the name of humor and fun and although I can't speak for Scott Kurtz (creator of the ads and PvP comic), I know he means it the same way.

    Your post was very gay.

You are confessing that you knew that AO's character models are offensive and still you just cheaply buy out the support and the pride of some females (still are they still qualified as females when working for marketing ?) to pretend that it's ok to taunt the lesser instincts of the mindless straight male hordes, in buying a game which only purpose is to see languid virtual females dancing in bikinis in the middle of some deepraved city.

And just don't start me again on Atroxes !

Be ashame. Be all very ashame !

EDIT : Oh and I forgot, Cosm** your name is offending. It's a greek name for female genitals after an orgasm, I thus had to report you here.

    Woot! A FC response!
In summary, gay = lame, not gay = homo

So far, no one has posted and said "I'm gay and I'm offended..", just bs like "I know a gay person, and it would hurt their feelings"

Every gay person I've ever known has been open minded enough to not care about something this petty.

    Come on guys

I already said that I WASN'T offended by the woman with the "I have implants" banner, that in fact I found it amusing.

And I wish the whole gay=lame bit WOULD go away because you cannot convince me that it's just coincidence that this particular word was chosen to mean lame.

That being said, I'm not going to make a federal case out of it. If guys want to use the word to mean lame well that's their right. And if some people chose to think less of you for using the word in such a manner well don't come crying to me about it.

The concern I had about using it in an ad was that it's being taken out of context. And some of you proved that by telling us to "go read the comic, man then you'll understand".

If the banner is being used only on this guy's website where presumably the people seeing it will have read the comic and understand the context of it then fine.

OK? Can we have a truce now please?
