Thread: 10 Million Creds

  1. #41
Oh yeah, it has to be a number. By definitions, nubers are figures such as 1, 2, 3, or 4. a fraction is a fraction, a percent is a percent, and something with decimals is a decimal (no matter what value it has) if I remember the 6th-ish grade correctly. I believe negative numbers are also restricted.

Actually the word you want in this defininition isn't "number", its "integer". Number is much harder to define, but it does include decimals, and fractions, but not percentages. Also if you are restricting negative numbers, you are defining positive integers (which are the most commonly used kind )

Ok, to remove confusion, here's my defininition of what I'm looking for.

Any string of data that includes ONLY the following within the brackets.

    [ 0123456789-%. ]

The following may only be used ONCE if at all.

    [ -%. ]

The [ - ] may only be placed at the begining of the string.
The [ % ] may only be placed at the end of the string.
The [ . ] may be placed anywhere in the string as long as it does not go outside of [ % ] or [ - ].

    ADD:

Common Examples to help the less gifted.

    -554.0000122
    44%
    -23467800.11122%
    .0001%
    .1

    Bad Examples.

    3566.434.78
    40-2111%
    %-34780
    square root of 9
    cubed root of 27
    the quadratic formula
[ insert complex equation here ]

    Enjoy.

    "num-ber:
    Mathematics.
    a. A member of the set of positive integers; one of a series of symbols of unique meaning in a fixed order that can be derived by counting."

ex: "what is the number of people in this thread?"
There must be a positive number of people and people only come in wholes. Therefore, we are not necessarily finding a 'number'.

Ok, so we are now finding a valueish thing of some type..

3 to the 32nd power, thats the highest my calculator can go, excluding all the decimal points that I wrote down somewhere and cant find..

or how about an h with a small line through the top-ish part, Planck's constant? I think there is an 'e' one, too, would that be it? Those are numbers usually expressed through symbols because they are too long.

    OK, how about this:

the number Some Guy has is represented as 'X'

Therefor, I guess the value of X.

Or, I guess Y under the condition that -infinity<Y<infinity

    I win

    how about .00000000000000000000000000000.................1?

My square roots were irrational, repeating, or too long for me to write. I skipped all the results that Megabio already posted (assuming the 'ect.' was noticed).
