Thread: 13.6 and AO Mission Display?

  1. #1

Unhappy 13.6 and AO Mission Display?

Has anybody used the add-on software tool AO Mission Display on the test server before 13.6?

I just got started on Test, and I instantly noticed that AOMD doesn't work. Did it get broken by 13.6, or did it never work with the test server?

You gotta have a network card for AOMD to work... dunno why.

that go's for RK1/2 and test

    That's not it

No, I have a network card. AO Mission Display works fine for me on RK1. It does not work at all on test. I want to know why. If 13.6 breaks AOMD, I'm going to be deeply sad.

Same here tried to use AO Mission Display on Test the other nite.. first time on Test and figured it was 13.6 that broke it...
Hopefully the mod author will realese and update.

According to the web page where i downloaded the file, the author has quit the game and it won't be updated [although the source code is there for anyone else who wants to do it]

Unhappy Okay, we have a problem.

I was on again last night, with test version 13.64. And I'm 99% sure that it's 13.6, not the test server array.

13.6 makes some changes in random missions. Some missions now offer two rewards. There is at least one new type of mission, "escort a person." So in all likelihood, they changed the packet format into one that AOMD can no longer read.

Unless someone adopts the AOMD code and brings it up to date, AOMD will stop working as soon as 13.6 is rolled out.

(Don't look at me. I can barely read C++, and am completely unfamiliar with Windows system calls.)

can someone plz tell me how to get play in window to wrk i got network card got d load winp thing and i got aomd and i cant get ao to run in window crashes each time can some one plz help me

I can't believe they brought 'escort a person' missions back. Those were around for about a week after launch before they were yanked because it was the easiest mission to token farm and people kept killing the people that others were trying to escort.

I can, of course, believe that they left it out of the patch notes. *sigh*

    Noooo!

I love AOMD! And I have no idea how to work with the source code to update it for 13.6.

It makes missions so much easier. Maybe the author will take pity.

Or maybe Funcom will take up the mantle and actually deliver this kind of an improvement? *laugh*

dilinger, I have no idea why AO won't run in a window for you, you should send Funcom support an email about that. Who knows, they might even be able to answer you.

And if Funcom would just make the damn mission info windows resizable, we wouldn't even need AO Mission Display. That's what is so tedious about rolling up missions, have to scroll up and down that stupid tiny little window over and over.

Of course, we've been asking about that since day 1, to no avail.

Yes, someone with some RL computer literacy needs to have a look at the source code and make it work again.

I plan to have a look at it... As soon as I can reinstall visual C at home :)

I started to look at the sources... There are command line options to turn on logging of various things, including captured packets from the TCP/IP stack.

I'll try this evening to compare the logs for live and test server... It may be somewhat easy to find how the packets have changed.

    Go Morb go!

You will have our eternal gratitude if you manage to fix AOMD to make it work with the new patch (assuming the patch really does break it).

I'd even kick in a multimillion credit reward, assuming you're not so high level that such amounts no longer mean anything to you anymore.

AOMD is going to need a UI change

One thing to think about, MORB: the number of item rewards is no longer fixed at one. I saw a mission on test last night that had NINE rewards. Now, I suspect that it was a bug, in the sense that it didn't mean to give that many. But it is apparently permissable, in the sense that it showed up in my mission log as a mission I could complete.

The norm now seems to be 1-2. But there's a bug at the moment: if it gives one type of deflection shield, it gives all seven, and if it gives one type of aggression enhancer, it gives both. That's how I ended up with 9: I drew a 2-reward mission that, by freak of chance, had an aggresssion enhancer and a deflection shield. So it expanded to all of both.

On the other hand, the possibility of missions giving ridiculous numbers of rewards was apparently planned for, because once they all showed up, the "mission reward" part of the mission info box suddenly had its own scroll bar.

Doh, it will be a pain to make all this fit in AOMD then... I was planning to display two items, which would have been easy to do, but if there's missions that need to display tons of items, it's a problem.

I also heard that escort missions have been removed from test server now. I didn't have any luck yesterday with the logging command line options of AOMD, but a friend brought me a copy of visual C today, so I'll be able to actually debug AOMD and see what's going on...

(I would do it at work if the stupid firewall didn't prevent AO to work here :p)
