Thread: We want a one time IP reset!!

    Lightbulb Talking in circles...

I'm a noob to mmorpg and sure I did spend a loot of IP totaly wasted on skills that was useless for me. All because I had no ide where to put them.
I would realy like a IP reset, BUT we can't have it.
It would ruin the game totaly I think.
    Funcom should think of this.
If you don't use a skill, why not make it possible to get some IP back from skills you don't use by: at every new lvl be able to LOWER the skill by some 5-10 clicks, meening "forgetting" and regaining some IP.
Maybe to a cost of some cr / forgotten point. I'm not talking about mil's of cr, but 1k / point maybe.

    Just my 2 cent...

Your missing the point, have your 2 cents back.

We need the IP reset for those of us that spent IP properly from day one. And lost IP when changes where made to the game enviroment that effectivly wiped IP clean off our characters.

Funcom has nerfed away entire weapontypes on us halfway through our characters lifespan, effectivly ruining any chance at being a good character.

We want this points back, it can happen .. and must happen.

We should not have to pay for these points back, we should get to respend them.

*WE HAVE ALREADY EARNED THIS IP* We should not have to pay for it to get it back.

I'm not paying for Funcom's mistake.

It will not ruin the game, it will allow them to balance everyone more effectivly.

    -adventurers multi-range skill color/cost change.
screwed higher level adv's out of IP compared to new adv's.

    but there is also:

    - pistols universally had thier multirange requirement upped
so high that it is now impossible to dual-wield most pistols of
the same QL, which given the way timing of dual-wielding works
turns this from an effective strategy into, in some cases,
poorer performance than just wielding a single pistol.
the best/most-popular pistols were removed form the game,
and it is now impossible to dual-wield most Q200 pistols.
(in some cases impossible to even wield one less than 60 levels lower)

    - pillows with important stripes also used to be dual-wieldable;
it was nerfed.. and now there are many NTs/Doctors/etc with
a huge amount of wasted ip in the dark blue skill multi-melee.

    - concealment: aggro worked differently at release ..
greys would aggro if they saw you .. meaning you would
have a train of grey rollerrats on your ass everywhere you
went if you didnt have some points in conceal ..
conceal worked against aggro mobs in the wild.
you could go into sneak mode and, if your conceal was
reasonable, that spider would actually walk right by you ..
but most significantly, other professions besides fully buffed
agents could use conceal to sneak thru missions ..

    - nanoline changes: new fixer grid armor
requires a skill they never had to raise previously .. adding
a 6th dark blue skill their nanos use .. obviously choices must
be made as to which lines to focus on and which to neglect
and the fixers that exist now dont have that choice.
MPs got all those great new summon weapons that use
1HB and 2HB .. MPs were previously raising other weapon skills
and suddenly now they find they have invested in the wrong ones.

    - starting a nano program now interrupts casting.
previously my trader had his nano init and ranged init
set to perfect speed to get a shot off inbetween my casting
of a health funnel .. now i have to choose to shoot or funnel,
making my funnel line pretty useless and the points i spent in
that speed wasted .. im sure many other players/professions
    have had similar problems ..

    - lowlight scopes had their crit chance nerfed,
meaning those that spent a few IP in weaponsmithing/elecengineering
to equip a low QL one now arent getting the same effect
and may not have made that choice (and taken the hit to inits)
if they could examine the modifiers as they now exisit.

    - Da Taunter, a new item, that may now mean
atroxes have wasted a lot of IP in psychology

    . . im sure there are more . .

and this isnt even getting into 'ignorant' misallocations
where it wasnt exactly a change or a nerf but there are
a lot of useless skills (adventuring/swimming/etc) that
a lot of early players (me included) thought were
another neccesity just like 'running' ..

and how about now that we know how AC works,
and that choosing any fast/lowdamage weapons is no
better than choosing any of the other useless weapons?

is it fair that professions born with pistols find out at level100
that they are gimps for taking the suggested route?

now, for new players, who come in after the wipe
they at least have the ability to talk to other players,
get advice, read these boards, check out the fan sites.
have all the info they need to make informed decisions.

the 'veteran' players who started with just the crappy
empty manual shouldnt be at a disadvantage to the new
guys who have all the guides now available to them.

but it's not even all of the above reasons I demand a reset.
It's the fact that there are level80 players with QL200 implants
and almost infinite IP that make them godlike compared to
everyone else. Your suggestion that FC manually decide how
to reassign these players IP wont happen, because I dont think
they have the capabilities to find them all and I dont think they
have the time to manually rebuild so many (hundreds-thousands)
of characters and why the hell should that be FCs job?
you're dreaming here. the only solution is a mandatory reset
    with an automatic de-equip.

Good post, sorry for quoting everything...

My reasons for being so crazy about wanting an IP resent personally:

    1. Balance, you can't balance what isn't predictable. How can you predict ANYTHING with characters that had IP ripped off?

    2. Multi-Range .. I lost a few levels worth of IP to that little fix.

    3. Pistols .. Most pistols have such a STUPID multi-range requirement on them, that they bug around ql 200, and you can't multi-wield them!!! ... The second the MR requirement goes over 1k, it disapears!! You can't multi-wield them! I get a reset, I'm ditching the pistols. Congrats, you've killed a really cool weapontype funcom!

    4. Freedom Arms... When we started, those where the ONLY pistols to use for the pistol people. The NERF idiots whined and cry'd so long Funcom just took them out of the game. When they did that, Funcom ruined my characters entire lifetime of spending points into one of the most expensive skills an Advent can have, Ranged energy.

    5. Concealment... Everyone likes to say "Aww, poor agents, concealment was nerfed" .. Well some of us .. like the second best sneaking class in the game .. where all together ruined by that little "fix". I have 850 points into a blue skill LOST on that one. Yeah, I want my freaking IP back.

There are countless other reasons from other class's that mirror these.

For anyone to say "An IP reset won't work" or "An IP reset would screw up balance" .. they are more or less telling us one of two things.

    1. I'm an overequipping uber-goon, and if you balance things so people might be able to kill me, I'll freak out and leave AO for DAoC.

    2. I like to comment on things I don't understand.

Not only has Funcom been dangling the "Ip reset" carrot in front of us for MONTHS now, but it's getting to be quite the pissoff that they keep retracting it, then bringing it up again.

ONE TIME IP RESET, DO IT.

(I have more time than you do funcom, this issue won't die)

Lightbulb IP Resets once per title level

FC is never going to be done balancing the classes, or at least we'll all move to the next game before they do. Perhaps keeping it at a slow pace is part of maintaining subscriptions: Give them hope...a little hope...and a lot of bread and water.

Make terminals that reset your IP/skills once per title level, 15, 50, 100, ..., and you have to be totally bare for it to work. Put it next to the planned and announced (envisioned) profession change terminals.

Then FC can go about the business of balancing/nerfing the classes out.

    yes

I'll belive it when i see it!

They don't need an IP reset to balance the game. Just make all skills usefull and that's ALL. And correct abusive IP alocation, in both way (too many IP / not enough IP).

This isn't very HARD to do. OK it takes some time to make a good algorithm to do it, but it is far less difficult than most other things like a 3D engine : ) .

    No way

I acn understand people wanting an ip reset with all the changes going on but I have a 98MA nevr cheated or exploited any bugg for me to have to start over would be drastic I have spent 2 much time on this char t have to do it all over again.

At 98 the game is just getting cool

Yalmha and flying Mp's coolest thing I ever seen in a game

You IP whiners never learn do ya?

how bout FC fix the game so its stable and less bugg free....

If u got a caracter around lvl 100, then just reroll a new one and choose to put ip in skills wisely.......by the time u hit lvl 100 again you gonna cry for another IP reset...
If u got a lvl 50 caracter and crying for ip reset, then u gonna cry yourself dry...dry as a dessert in sahara...

Reroll or roll on you damn roller rats....

    um..
we're talking about an IP 'reset' .. not a character wipe.

    You'd still be a level 98MA,
you would just have to distribute your points again.
(allowing players to recover from rule changes since release)

Few are retarded enough to suggest a complete player wipe,
and FC would never consider it for a second because of the
affect it would have thier bank account. (most players would quit)

    The point being:

    - Funcom "claims" to want to balance characters.

    - Balance can't happen, unless the outcome of characters is predicatable.

    - This requires the option to reset IP at least once in a characters lifetime.

    - If they do *not* do this, they are purposly screwing the first Generation of AO, and will NOT balance this game in any way.

    - The only balance that MAY eventually happen with no IP wipe, will NOT happen for at least two years.
