Thread: Why arent players all hyped about notum wars?

Why arent players all hyped about notum wars?

I saw this very interesting question posted on this board and thoguth it should be addressed.

Well for one most of the veteran ao players are worn out for a variety of reasons. ( solutions at end this is just not a complaining session, the game is getting better month by month I just want to say that the beginning)

    1. We came to ao with high expetations and found a game 1/3 complete totally unbalanced and in need of major work just to be played.

    2. Funcom for the better part of a year that totally ignored the players and treated us as incompetant kids ( that is now changing and I believe it was mostly done because they where afraid to admit that they come live with this game way to early)

    3. We have seen list after list of promises by funcom that have yet to materialize and when something does arrive it often comes with a booby trap.

    4. Each new patch seems like a fresh garden with a mindfield hidden in it. (players spend months and hundreds of hours developeing characters then wammo nerf time and your pride and join is now neutered, yes many of the nerfs made sense but you cant do this to players without understanding that you will alienate many of them.

    5. ATRITION we have seen legions of our friends leave this game.

    6. Any of us that are still here are here because we truely love this game but we now feel like part of leaper colony, ao has recieved wonderous and justified remarks from the press but it is the laughing stock of the online game community, in the players opinion they hate it. AO may have won the press war but they lost the player war and that is more important most gameplayers listen to there friends and seek out associates opinions of the games that are available and wherever I go I only here negative comments about ao from the gaming community.

    7. Many players feel used by ao, the have used our monthly payments over the past year to fund a game that was not complete.

    8. A year has gone by and tradeskills are still pretty much a joke. Only the super powerful players can actually do it as a living. A player does not have spare IP to spend on trade skills until they get to 100th lvl and then then they need to spend 50 lvls getting the tade skill to the point where it is actually in demand. There is no benefit to putting IP into tradeskills until your combat skills are near maxed, the experience you get for making things is all but useless so players are forced to ignore tradeskills until high lvl. This makes everyone a soldier until 150thlvl then some tradeskill specialists start to materialize. Funcom has never understood that people dont want to just spend all there time killing things and that is all there is to do in this game, kill mobs and kill people. guess what notum wars and shadowlands is about new and better ways to kill mobs and people.

    9. housing? well thats just a silly joke. boxes that people have keys to and cant even decorate or store stuff in, housing is just plain pathetic and thats being nice. Go to uo and look around, you may laugh at it but thousands upon thousands of players compete to buy better homes and castles and spend hundreds of hours playing just to get the best items for there homes. ( a true status symbol is a heraldic banner on your houses front porch.

    11. Player venders, dont exist and no plans to make them. Simple thing is we collect bags of nice items only to sell them to a machine for 1/10 th of the price another player would by them for. Why do we do this, cause none of us want to spend our limited game time camping the shoping channel. Simple solution have player stores and let us rent vending machines charge high rent and it will work.

    12. VENDORS AND HOUSING IS IT STUPID? No its not, maybe only %15 of players want to be vendors and maybe only %20 of the players want great housing ,and maybe only %20 or %30 of your players want to be tradeskill specialists , but add all these players up and you find out that AO as alienated another large group of players, the player that does not want to spend his or her whole game time on a mob killing merry go round of non stop killing.

    13. Classes well lets be honest this game is about notum right, nts are a joke, the key is to get high enough lvl to use a great gun lol now thats funny. If you can stomach 150 lvls of being agroed every time you use your best nanos, and this for the class with lousy hps and no special armor or hps buffs. Basically nts from lvl 75 to 150 are totally dependent on getting in good teams, soloing is just a stupid idea. ( okay yes my first character was a nanomage nt, and its so dusty I forget his name sometimes.)

    14. Potential, well ao has lots of potential always has but its been fritted away, there are only a finite number of online players and a huge chunk of them have been alienated. I also know that a huge number of players are just waiting for another game to come along that offers a real alternative.

    SOLUTIONS

    1. Do some massive advertising many of the bad feelings will disappear when we see 50,000 new players bring life to this world like it should, oh and well fix the lag if you get those players lol.

    2. Reward the veteran player. do something right now for all the people that have stuck with you. Its simple any account that has a original activation date of at least 6 months ago or more give them something extra for there loyalty. Alot of people have quit and come back so do it based on original account activation date and you might find alot of those long gone players coming back to get that little bonus. and keep the new players here by offering them the same reward after there account is 1 year old.

    3. Fix the tradeskill increase exp points by 2 times, sounds crazy yes but give people a choice of something to do besides kill kill kill

    3. vendors simple allow players to rent vendor machines

    4. housing well good luck there you kinda painted yourself into a corner. but find someway for us to use the dam apartments you came up with for storage and decoration.

well Ive blahed enough but Im sure Ive said much that many other vets would agree with

    I'm interested in Notum Wars.
But having played online RPGs since UO Beta, I'm a wiser person.
I don't look forward to any kind of addition to the game.
    I wait and see.

If the game, as it stands, doesn't please you, quit. Your dollars are the only thing any company listens to.

Doen't mean you can't chime in on a message board with constructive critisim and commments, but don't expect anything.

As an RPer, and from what I've heard from other RPers, most are very, very worried that the almost exclusive emphasis on PvP in Notum Wars will decimate the community, taking everyone out of spots like Reets and Rompa and moving them out onto the battlefield.

For the non-RP community, I think they're principally concerned, especially in light of patch 14.6, that NW will have more flaws than benefits.

This is very frustrating. I played AO quite a bit and the only role-players I were able to meet were people role-playing sex in nightclubs.

    Where is everybody?

I'm excited about NW. I cant wait to see the enhanced graphics, cool yalms, personal towers, and enhanced pvp over the ****e err Notum.

I would have to say that this is an typicall example of how an flame should not look like. You need to think things through and calm down before you try to write an flame... Im sorry but I would rate this flame with an 1. Aggression is to high, grammar and cursing isnt to well planned... Maybe he has an point somewhere in there but I dont even want to find it. - Centurion3

Whine whine whine...11 comes after 10, you know.

Your problem is that you want things that suck, so FC will never implement them.

Heh, I don't see how that will help. It's sort of like saying that if a million more people buy Yugo's it will be a better car.

Having more players won't improve the game as it is. They need to add more content to get more people to play AO. I joined recently, and already the game has gotten pretty routine. Once I save up enough to buy a Yalm, and can visit some of the places I haven't gone to yet, I'll pretty much be done with AO. There isn't enough to do in the game to keep my interest.

I think the game has tons of potential by the way. And I have very little doubt that with another year or two of development it will be a top contender. But right now the only thing unique about AO is the mission system, which is great. They just need more things for people to do.

PvP does NOT equal content, so many of us are not interested in Notum Wars.

I'm not sure about everyone else but i find it hard to get excited about paying 20$+ for something that was promised to me when i paid the 20+ for the game in the first place.
engie + ghetto crowd control + no healing + lowest hp + worst evades + bot who is never around. = worst prof in game

We ARE hyped. Just because the boards are not awash with people jumping with joy and anticipation, you cannot conclude we are not hyped up.

Besides, positive, optimistic people that would say "yay ! a booster pack !" are not very well represented among the regulars on the boards

And on the subject of tradeskills at low levels... I agree, early attempts were a miserable failure, and ultra-rare PPPEs didn't help, but the new armours are ideal playgrounds for lower level trade people. I hope we get more things like this, where you need to find uncommon loot to perform tradeskill processes, but that are available at all levels, and produce results that people will actually want.

Heh, I didn't say PvP wasn't fun in some forms. I play and like UT2K3, AAO, RtCW and other strict PvP games because they are a lot of fun. But adding PvP to an RPG isn't the same as content. I spend a few hours a week in FPS games. I spend much more time in RPG's because they offer more options and interesting things to do than the Shooters.

After awhile you notice in games like UT2K3 that running around on the same map, capturing the same flags is kinda boring. So I stand by the statement, adding PvP does not add content.

I want more quests, better designed and more elaborate missions, more purpose in the game. Adding more PvP so we can stand around shooting other players is just a cop-out. They aren't adding real content with this booster pack.

    Seconded.

Here are some of my ideas/complaints/suggestions

    -Fix the trade skills

    -Fix the pathing

    -Get some new music

-Fix all of the nano discrepencies

    -Fix the engineer and NT

-Create tons of little makeable little items with *recorded* recipies

-Make it possible to level up from doing trade skills (I can't see how this can be exploited, it takes a while to find parts anyways),

-Great idea to rent venders, the economy would be great

-Get more varied weapons, it's boring to see lots of people walk around with one weapon that's much better than the others.(Enforcers anyone?) Make lots of great weapons.

-Fix pathing!!!!! Yes, I know I said it twice

-Give npcs special information that they can give you if you talk to them (Missions, exp. spots, good weapons, etc)

-Hmm, what else.. Ah yes, make cars like the mid larger. I'm sick of a tiny toy car to drive around in. I don't care if it gets stuck in forests, you aren't supposed to drive em' in trees anyways.

-More RP locations (More accessible bars, npc vs. npc events: think about it)

That's all that I can think of for now. All of these fixes seem pretty easy to implement. Here's hoping at least some of the problems listed are solved.
