installing the New engine

The link in the launcher AND the link in the release notes will not install over the original files, just produces an error. I just want patch files to patch the live install so I don't have the hassle of reconfiguring all the chars on my 2 accounts. Is this possible without having to make a complete new install?

Would create a fresh install but just copy your prefs over from the old one, seems to work.

And that patch fixed things for me Michi, can get to live now. ;p

This will, most likely, not be possible.
What you COULD do is move / rename the current client's folder and install the new client to the EXACT same path.

AO's prefs work by path so.. you wouldn't have to reconfigure anything.
Alternatively there's ways to just copy the preferences over if you do install it somewhere else. I just did it myself.

I installed via this and everything works fine and dandy.
ICC FPS is around 20 , it's horrible. Bor is 40 , SL 60+
Running on AMD FX 8320 4GHz
8GB DDR3
R9 280x
All maxed out

All in all , meh.

I installed over my existing installation after backing it up, and pop no problems everything including preffs working fine.
FPS 30-50 in ICC, 50-60 most places and capping at 100 in SL. and I have everything maxed to the wall with 32xCSAA and x8 multi sampling in the nvidia control panel.

The open beta for the new engine is on the live servers so any ACTIVE account (Froob, SLoob or Paid) can access it.
So I guess both yes and no, depending on what kind of account you're talking about.

Do you have a paid account with access to the expansions? If so, you need a subscription.
If you have an inactive free account there's an option on the website to reactivate it for free. I personally don't know where that's located but I hope someone else knows.

i'm experiencing problems with the download speeds on the new engine my download speed is 5mb/s but the client is download 190kb/s

I didn't want to chance installing over old game files, so I just uninstalled and installing this "New Engine" version
I will report back here with an update on how this worked for me once I get it downloaded.
Downloading install-%.bin files now @ 6.5Mb/s - I guess they fixed the slow download speeds?

UPDATE: Installed new download after removing old and works like a charm. Quick download as well, got whole thing in under 30 mins.

So if i install new client to old directory and overwrite files my prefs and gui should stay as it was? I tried to install it to other directory and did copy prefs folder but it didnt work.

I would install it to some other directory and then move/rename things around so that the new installation's folder becomes the same as the old one's.
Like this you're not overwriting anything and the chance of messing things up that way is gone. You just install, rename, move and chill.
