My SSD space has been all eaten up by TSW (and other stuff). Ah well, AO is fast enough zoning on my HDD(s) so no real biggie.

I would expect the option to use the new engine (when Live is brought back up) will install right over your current live, including prefs, but not change or clear the prefs. For ppl wanting to do new engine but keep old, will need to do a new full install, aimed at another directory, much like we were doing for testlive - the only difference being that now that install will point at the live server IP's.

FC could.. and possibly should.. include an option on the installer to "overwrite the previous Anarchy Online installation in the target folder".
This option would make sure to delete all files in it except custom maps and possibly chat scripts) before the installation process.

Just an quick and dirty fix idea that would likely clear any problems with installing over the old engine AND allow people to keep their Prefs since it'd be the same folder

I just hope they have been smart enough to have some content lined up.
I have a few friends that are coming back to check the new engine and fancy graphics will maybe keep their attention for a week or two, they need some new content so when they log on their toon they actually have to do something.

Won't be anything but birthday content added since yesterday. If they are coming back after some years, will be stuff for them to do. We know that later this year we'll get the Broken Shores pyramid and The Reck, but that's not set for this patch.

They did announce new content for both endgame (on the BS Pyramid) and something in The Reck near Rome for like lvl 100'ish, I forget the exact range.
Not sure how quickly that'll be available though.

I realy hope this comes fast enough to catch people returning to test the new engine, I also hope this forces some sort of "gear reset" and change in the stagnant meta of AI armor.

This has probably been answered many times before, but what do we get with the new engine? I've seen the new grass stuff, water and lightning etc. Do we get new textures, models etc? I saw some screens of new character models floating around a few years back, will we get that also?

None of that. No new character models or textures today - that's not the new engine. Some textures have been upgraded in recent years, and look good in the engine, but most textures are as they were in 2001.

As far as we had things on Test Live.. there are NO new models/etc. Some textures look amazing in the new engine though I'm not sure if they're new or if the old engine just made them look a lot worse.

Realistically, I'd say you get really great looking lighting and aliasing and a lot of textures looking a whole lot better in addition to the amazing grass/water stuff.

Some of the textures look better as they got some Tessellation applied. This is mostly noticeable on dirt / sand type I think.

Guess I need to buy SSD now, because ICC is loading for me around 60-70 seconds total, and other zones around 5-20 seconds :/ (yes, I have 8 years old HDD )

If you can stand to wait a bit (maybe not a problem since you are sporting a 8y old drive already) they are predicting that SSD prices will start to drop now, and might be on par with mechanical discs in a year or two.

We can always try to get ati and nvidia to notice us and fix some of their drivers bugs on their ends.
