Why do they attack the brink?
How are they capable of articulated movement?
Internally, what are they made of?
Food, what do they live off?
Where did they come from & how do they procreate?

I'm not all the way through the Pandemonium Backstory thread (and I tend to cozy up with it while falling asleep) but I get the impression that that they *are* the brink - formed of stone - and consume the edges of SL. I think they do this at the behest of either Ergo (who wants to die) or the Beast. I could be waaaay off, mind you.

But why is the edge of the Shadowlands consuming itself? How can it? Where does it go?

Ergo I think is absolved from this as he is attempting to preserve the Shadowlands at the command of Galahad, killing Hecklers grants you faction with Ergo, I can't see how he would be their master architect too

In Adonis, there is one Yutto who does mention something about the inner workings of the Hecklers, but I cannot remember what he says.

What about those "petrified" hecklers in inferno. Also there are some in Pande right, but no "living" hecklers there? Perhaps you can infer something from this relationship.

There is little to no explanation, besides the fact that they came up after the cataclysm and the arrival of the 'alien' evil. They are the reason SL is falling apart. They spend their time smashing the ground and pushing it out of the brink (fyi originally falling off the brink meant death).

From the loot table, I assume they feel the need to eat. Otherwise there is little biology. I assume they are the result of rocks exposed to the brink and will spawn of the surrounding ground as long as the brink exist.

Petrified hecklers are far away from the brink, I would guess that Inferno narrowly avoided a gaping hole in its center.

That's the current version. Originally golems were half rock half organic creatures living near a radioactive crater south west of Avalon. Petrified golems were too far from the center of the crater and fell into a deep hibernation, it was possible to revive them by exposing them to radioactivity. This is apparently retconned, because that zone has never made it online.

There is an answer to "why do they attack the brink" and "where do they come from" in the SL quest dialogues.

I think it's One Who Fears Corruption in Scheol who says that the brink and the hecklers are a result of the corruption of the Xan.

SL is a very metaphysical and symbolic world. The brink mobs are like a manifestation of how the Xan were destroying the world and how the redeemed and unredeemed continue to do so.

This is how I explained SL to myself in general:


SL in itself is a different dimension, it is something similar to an imaginary world in one's own head.

So imagine SL is something like a dream (that you share with others), where you challenge your own limitations and understanding of an unknown world. The only way to make sense of incomprehensible and only partially perceptible world is to reflect the known objects and concepts onto your perceptions of the unknown and incomprehensible world...


For an easier interpretation of the above:
Imagine having your sight and hear replaced by a radioactivity sensor and chemical receptors and how would you apply the models of your current knowledge to the new types of input.

I have a feeling my Heckler Lore topic kinda got exhausted the moment we figured out there is close to no explanation for them except they go stompy and smashy and give a reasonable amount of XP.

That being said, the level of Geologist porn in this thread is astounding.
