How many Char slots?

I'm not entirely sure I understand the details of this from the update notes, Is this some kind of game on the forum where we have to ask the right question to get the straight answer?

So.....How many active character slots will I be able to use in total (8, 10, 12?) after the merge and will I be able to purchase additional slots if I desire?

I don't understand why this information was not given in the update notes either. It seems it should be easy enough to tell us how many slots subscribers will get. We already know froob accounts will stay at only 8 slots.
