    Looking at coming back to the game - wanting info on Server Merge

    Hey guys, can someone give me a few answers on this topic?

    1: When I first heard a merge was planned I created a bunch of placeholder level 1s on Atlantean with all my Rimor character names. I am expecting to have to delete each one and request a namechange yes? There won't be any trouble with inactive characters I've not played in the last few months being deleted will there?

    2: What is expected to be messed up about orgs? A few of said characters are org leaders, it won't mess them up will it?

    3: When is this expected to finally be completed? The official posts on it use a jumble of past present and future tense.


    *Edit* Note to self. Update Sig. Probably got voted out unless it's like those politicians who people vote in after their deaths and nobody noticed I was gone.

    1) Names will resolve automatically. Your alts will be renamed to something else, like Tryqz-1. No chars will be deleted.

    2) People with orgs that have inactive org presidents who have not contacted support to have the matter resolved will end up losing their city buildings.

    it worked pretty smoothly for RK3 (different of course but similar) so i think it will work out.

    All ranks but president will be reset, but that's it. As far as we know.

    So, planning on a fresh AO install today.
    So if I log in post patch now, I just have to delete all my old RK1 level 1 placeholders and petition for renames on all my old RK2 characters, right?

    If the character you want to keep was renamed automatically as part of the merge because of a collision (the name will look something like "R2723641236") then you will have one free automated rename for every such character: type /name nick "newname" and follow the instructions you get from the rename bot.

    However, in case of those placeholder chars, chances are the placeholders were ignored entirely because according to the rename ruleset, characters with actual playtime take precendence over unplayed placeholders, so your played chars have probably kept their names.

    FC should have used that instead of renaming toons with random numbers like R32142056935...

    it's sad to see some automaton ruin a cool name... most of cool names are already used or holded by lvl 1 toons...

    when DNW friends joined us on RK1 we got a "-1" or "-2" after the name, so everyone knew we were from different servers and identical names.

    now we only meet players who lost their identity.

    Unless that script FC used is a lot more robust than previously thought possible in a personal computer i think you will find that no *players* have lost their identities.

    Assuming your lvl 1 placeholders are the toon's that lost the name, you can delete them from the login screen ... Without Activating Them.

    Otherwise you should activate the placeholders first and then delete them.

    You can not un-activate a toon, only delete it.

    You could probably run three+ full 12m raids with just a few dnet/neutnet spams. Do not base population off lft

    Yet to mention the 100+ sided raids that happen...

    lft is far from the way to form teams, Lft is only for filling final slots.

    But expecting lft to have much more than 20-40 people is silly. People that are online mostly hug borealis until something gets going by other channels. Once that stars lft goes crazy.

    Observe it before Tara, or S42 raids...

    Lft fails as population measurement.

    There is plenty to do if you do not spend your whole time in front of the computer. Maybe there are more people playing 2+ hours/day than what I thought 😁. No game can keep up with content for heavy players.
