[OOC] Omni-Tek Armed Forces Technical Manual – First Draft

The Below post is the OOC Mockup of the Technical Manual I am working on which I hope will someday serve as a primer for a player wishing to undertake the role of a member of the Omni-Tek Armed Forces. The Manual’s intent is to provide guidance for the new player to help them understand how Omni-AF would operate and to assist them in coming up with their own ideas on how to successfully roleplay a member of the military.

It is important to understand that the first draft of the manual is designed to cover the absolute basics of the Omni-AF. Additional information on more complicated topics can and will be added as appendixes later.

This Thread will remain open for 1-2 weeks before I request that it be locked when I begin the translation to an In-Character document.

    Constructive Feedback is appreciated.

    Appendix 1:

    DEFCON and Condition Levels

    Purpose:

Defense Conditions (DEFCON) is a state of military readiness which is applied to broad regions. Individual regions can set their DEFCON independently of Central Command (CENTCOM) but they may never enter a state of awareness which is lower than that set by CENTCOM.

Alert Conditions (LERTCON) is a state of Military Readiness which is situationally applied to military installations and vessels. The Commanding or Executive Officer has the ability to adjust the LERTCONs of the base or vessel based on their environment. The CO or XO will report their condition to their Divisional Command which may adjust their Regional DEFCON. This adjustment in Regional DEFCON may prompt an adjustment in CENTCOM DEFCON.

    Defense Conditions:

DEFCON 5 – A State of Normal Military Readiness during Peacetime.

DEFCON 4 – Increase in Provisional Readiness, Intelligence and Internal Security.

DEFCON 3 – Increase in force readiness above that required for normal readiness.

DEFCON 2 - Increase in force readiness resulting in the calling of forces from Reserve Status.

DEFCON 1 – Mobilization of all readied forces.

    Alert Conditions:

LERTCON 5 – Normal Peacetime conditions when a vessel is in Port or a Base is minimally staffed for a Holiday or Special Occasion.

LERTCON 4 – Normal Peacetime conditions when a Vessel is cruising or a Base is Operating.

LERTCON 3 – Non-Combat, Wartime condition for all Vessels and Bases. Minimal readiness is required.

LERTCON 2 – A threat is possible but not currently present. An increased readiness by placing crew on standby.

LERTCON 1 – A threat is present or Imminent. General Quarters (Battle Stations) is sounded and the Vessel or Base is brought to full readiness.

    Examples:

It’s 29470 and the Galaxy is at peace while the fourth Rubi-Kan Civil war wages on. Lieutenant General Robert Rosuma is seated in his office and he is looking at a digital readout on the wall. This readout depicts the Defense Condition of a Omni-Prime, and by virtue, Central Command, as a peaceful, green number four. Directly next to the CENTCOM DEFCON is a similar meter labeled ‘Local’ which is showing a glaring, yellow number three.

It’s 29478 and Rubi-Ka has encountered the first Alien species and they are highly aggressive. When Lieutenant General Robert Rosuma communicates this incoming threat to CENTCOM they adjust their DEFCON to Level 2. This action, not seen since the last Corporate War, sets the entire Omni-Tek War Machine to a heightened ready level and forcefully adjusts Rosuma’s Local DEFCON from the glaring, yellow number three to a bright, red two since the local condition cannot be higher than the CENTON level. Once Communication is severed with Omni-Prime Rosuma advances to DEFCON 1 and Full Scale War once again descends upon Rubi-Ka.
