The question is why is it so?

Look at what needs to be done to get a full 220 toon, xp, sk, axp, quests, instance farming, gear farming, VP farm, token farm and so forth
Making a endgame fully equipped toon is a massive undertaking, of course this is not black and white, as people have different views on what constitutes "endgame"

My question is, why do people only want to have fully equipped 220 characters (or fixed level twinks) and see leveling and gathering equipment as a necessary evil, an annoying obstacle they have to overcome?

You neglected to address the last point of my previous point, so now I'm asking directly from you, just because I'm interested in the answer (whatever it may be): If you had the ability to instantly create characters of any level, with any equipment, how long do you think you'd stay with AO?

I'm having the most fun when I play with my friends, no matter what the level. To quote myself from a previous post:

As this week is a Holiday for everyone I won't be creating work for others (translators/moderators) by writing up a post. The hope had been to produce one on Wednesday but I was ill...again....so that didn't happen.

Instead I will be sitting (determined by coin toss before anyone complains) in The Grind on Rk2 for about the next hour.

Well it can only be, the more time passes, the more is done on the engine by the time it's made ^^

Not necessarily.

"Still alive" was visually pretty nice. Then "Check out our grass" was 'Ehh'. Don't get me wrong. From a technical standpoint "Check out our grass" was nice, but not as much of a visual impact as when we all watched "Still alive" for the first time.

Granted, different engines & different points in progression per engine, but you get the idea.
