This is a random bug that I cannot seem to reproduce, and it has shown up in several releases, including the latest stable. The only time I can think of that this happens is when a private group drops, and you are kicked from it. But even upon rejoining it doesn't seem to recognize the private group and it gives me the error message "Unknown group xxxxxxx."
It only seems to happen to private groups, as I don't remember specifically any org/shopping that it would have happened to.
I'll have to look into that.
Sounds like there certainly is a flaw around that area.
Especially given a bug report a few posts back I'm unable to reproduce.
edit: if someone gets the private channel issue again, could you please copy-paste your chat output (quite a few lines around it please) into this thread.
A screenshot will do too. I don't mind if you censor the chat, but try to leave the channel name intact.
I'm thinking it might be a casing issue as I'm otherwise out of ideas as to the cause of this issue.
So I'll need exact copy-pastes or preferably a screenshot so I can compare the casing in the error message and the casing of the channel in the side panel.
Additionally I'd like to see any prior join/leave messages or the lack thereof to really get a grasp of what's going on.

More on this Unkown Group bug.
A paste from tonight's leisurely chats with names to cover up the entirely su****ious activities we perform:
As you can see, by the timestamps (this is all a continuous chunk of text I just copied and pasted), there was no kick/removal from the PG, I didn't !leave, it just randomly gives me the error. The player that left the PG was obviously not myself, since I can still receive the group's transmissions. But more mysteriously,Originally Posted by vha.chat
I randomly can type back into the PG again without changing anything, restarting the client, or doing another /tell x !join.Originally Posted by vha.chat
Another bug: if you notice the timestamps aren't in order, it's because I opened up the PG in a window to be able to copy and paste, but they are in the EXACT order they appear in my window. I know not why this would change anything, but I assure you there was no horseplay on my end.
And another "bug?" When I got the unknown group error, and when I opened the window of the PG using my middle mouse button, I got all this text. Doing it again, after being able to type back into the PG, it's as if the entire text log was wiped. Could this be part of the error that causes the Unkown group to begin with? Such as, the client itself purges the log and it gives me an erratic error? This has happened twice now in 20 minutes, where the new PG window doesn't show all the text itself, just the new text that had been entered since opening the window.
EDIT: And another slight bug. After all of this, I got the Unknown private group error yet again, and asked a mate to type something into the privategroup. He eventually caved in to my threats and posted something, whereupon I still recieved it (as in my prior quote). He reinvited me to the group after kicking me first (for I was still in the group whilst getting this error), and now I have a duplicate of the privategroup in my Private Channels list.
I then did a !leave, and it cleared one copy from the Private Channels list. I double clicked the duplicate, and did a !leave and got the unknown private group error again, so I rejoined with a /tell x !join, and it placed another duplicate into my PC list. I right click both of the PGs in my PC that share the same name to use the leave option, and I get one genuine dismissal and one more Unknown Group error. I join again, and it gives me another duplicate.

Those are a few really helpful details.
I'll take another look at it again.
Thank you.
edit: guess what's wrong here
Yep, I'm an idiotCode:// Handle other characters if (e.CharacterID != this.CharacterID) { // ... } // Handle the local character { // ... }
edit2: In a nutshell, other people leaving caused Vha.Chat to think you left. But the UI had a clever check and didn't update the UI if it was another person leaving.
I removed the check and added that missing else. Fetch the beta release to try it out.
edit3: which version (all 4 numbers please ) are you running?
The time issue should already have been fixed shortly before the official 1.2.0 release.

If I had to take a guess as to what is wrong here, is that you lack self-esteem. AND RIGHTLY SO, YOU FAILURE.
Jokes man, jokes. I can't read what any of that says, other than slash slash, ellipsis, some words, and then some more slashes. Brackets are liberally placed around, and somehow it allows me to login to my AO chat groups.
If I click disconnect first and then try to close the program, I get:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Not expecting a call to Context.Disconnect."

not really chat/net suggestion, but how about adding org related changes to pages like
http://characters.vhabot.net/organiz...98&dimension=2
recent leavings, joinings, rank promotion and demotions etc.

I've been holding out on this release for a while now hoping to add more to it.
But as I'm getting quite busy soon, I'll put this out as mainly a bugfix release.
1.2.1
- Added /start command to launch urls
- Added AO's 'recent messages' friends behavior
- The "Talk To.." button no longer appears on read-only channels
- Fixed a bug that caused long stalls on unknown characters
- Fixed a crash bug related to improper cleanups
- Fixed an issue where Vha.Chat mistakenly thinks it left a private channel
- Fixed a crash bug when exiting the main chat form
- Now compatibility with .NET 2.0 pre-SP1

Bump for me not having much time to work on this lately
I might have found a few bugs, so I'm probably forced to start working again soon properly and put out a new release.
But since I'll be working on it again soon (and might not be able to for a while after that), anyone got some annoying behavior or bugs they haven't reported yet for me to include?
Also, if you're still using AORC, what is holding you back on using Vha.Chat?

The best I can offer is this: http://forums.vhabot.net/index.php/topic,7149.0.html
The guide might not entirely be correct for OSX, but the same logic holds really.
I've made some significant effort on getting this running on mono, but I'm stuck on bugs in mono: http://forums.vhabot.net/index.php/topic,7148.0.html
I'd love to support OSX/Linux through better means than Wine, but Novell is too busy milking their new mono-derived cash cows instead of fixing Mono.
At the moment you can't.
I've been meaning to add this, but I'm a bit caught up with other work at the moment.

Alpha and beta versions are unavailable for a while.
I'm having some issues with my build server and I'm currently 1000 km too far away to fix it
I'll see about creating a release that bundles all fixes in these 2 soonish.
Meanwhile, if you absolutely need these versions, fetch the source from SVN.
