Friday with Means - January 1st, 2010 - Explosive devices

Nothing has been going on in the office for the last week...and if there has been anything I don't want to know about it.

I hope the rest of the team (and all of you!) had more exciting new year's than I did. I stayed home with the wife and kids and set off Norwegian fireworks. It was interesting to NOT know what the hell was going to happen every time I lit one of those things. After lighting one small thing that fired out the SIDE of the tube and almost took out my wife and kids all fireworks were set off a LOT further away.

It reminded me a lot of AO. "It comes out teh side n00b!"

We'll all be back at work on Monday (Don't make me come get you!!). Amazing how Christmas AND New Years days are BOTH on Friday this year?

Ah yes the wonders of psycho fireworks.

I remember maaany years ago we had one of those batteries that you place on the ground. It's supposed to fire like 10-20 shots up into the air and then explode while they are up there.

There were no instructions on the battery telling us what side was supposed to be up but the fuse stuck out of the side at the bottom if we placed it on the ground with the writings being the right way up. We figured placing it on the ground with all the writings and pictures on the side being upside down was the wrong way.

So we lit it off and.. yeah. It kept spitting shots directly at us and once the shots reached us, they exploded. Everyone was running away like a scene from Saving Private Ryan.

Before anyone comments, the red thin papir thing that covered up the battery tube-holes was pointing up. I've never seen a battery like that being placed with that red thin paper-cover pointing down into the snow.

Hehe Means, reminds me of something that happened where i live once.

We went to the scouts Bonfire night (11th November) and the first few rockets went up fine.
The third wave of rockets didnt go up so well, as they fell over after being lit, and fired straight into a 100 strong crowd.
A dozen or so flew over our heads. 2 went through the crowd at head height (and missed everyone thankfully).
One unfortunately flew along the ground and hit a kid in the thigh. It wasnt pretty, but he managed to walk away with only minor puncture wounds.
Since then there havent been any more fireworks at the scout hut.
Hmm brings back memories or pyrotechnics we used to get up to.
