[Freelance news] Intermittent Grid failures leave dozens stranded

Intermittent Grid failures leave dozens stranded
    By Wob Wusi

The Rubi-Ka Grid failed numerous times on Saturday, leading to wide-spread panic and frustration as dozens of citizens were denied transportation and some were even briefly trapped inside the system.

The Grid terminals around the planet, as well as the exits inside the Grid, became unresponsive for up to ten minutes at a time and prevented those who were inside the system during the glitches from leaving. Chaos reigned in the Grid as panicked citizens ran around crying for help.

Most disconcerting for those inside was the unavailability of the emergency exit. Designed specifically as a safety measure, Grid users naturally expected the special exit to function even during system failure, but were astonished to find out otherwise.

The system returned to normal on Sunday without any reports of missing persons or lost data resulting from the failure.

The premier means of fast travel around Rubi-Ka has been plagued by similar problems in the recent weeks as the planet’s digitization and networking systems apparently struggle to cope with the current load. Saturdays are especially problematic due to the fact that many people prefer to ramp up business during the weekend while others take time off to enjoy the nightlife.

Many have expressed disbelief, however, that the communications load on Rubi-Ka has increased significantly to cause such problems, as public records indicate the planet’s population has stabilized in the last couple of years.

Omni-Com, the Omni-Tek department responsible for the operation of the Grid, could not be reached for an official comment at the time of publication.
