Who is stealing the trees!?

For several weeks now, I have been trying to plant some trees around the
"couch" [Approximately Pos: 388.5, 262.9, 38.0, Area: Newland City.] in
Newland City. I have tried out several tactics:

• Taken seeds from the other trees in Newland City and planted them
  near "couch".
• Taken seeds from the other trees in Newland City and planted them
  in pots to let them grow a bit, then planted the small trees near
  "couch".
• Bought seeds and planted them near "couch".
• Bought seeds and planted them in pots to let them grow a bit, then
  planted the small trees near "couch".

All this, to no avail. The trees and would-become-trees keep vanishing!
That's right, they don't die, they just vanish. From what I can imagine,
it would seem like someone keep stealing them. Either that, or something
very fishy is going on.

So far, this endeavor has cost me two backpacks of trees. Thus I would
greatly appreciate any help finding the thief/cause of this.

This village elder should would actually go and approve of this project at the next NLCC meeting (prob in august). This is about involvement people, and community.

Altho you have to be careful with the giant dish around. And all the equipment taps running around. Don't forget that the dish is also connected to the big junkframe and that the roots could mess with the underground pipes and connections.

And the Junkframe was critical in catching a certain band of terrorists. The junkframe must stay connected. Disconnecting would be a grave error.
