Violence and Brutality In Crimes Increasing

Everyday crime. Omni-Tek says there is no such thing in their territories. For the clans, muggings and robbery aren’t even considered something worth the time to report about. We had the chance to talk to a trader who recently lost all his belongings and his life in a hold-up robbery.

Rubi-Ka can be a wild and unforgiving place to live on. The north has its own rules -- or more so, lack thereof. Crime is something people experience every day. It’s barely worth reporting or talking about it because everyone does it all the time.

The south claims that they have no problems with crime, because they are one big happy family who would never committ any crime against their own family members. Maybe their massive military forces on the streets help intimidate people not to do anything they weren’t ordered to do.

We are glad and proud to have had the chance to talk to a successful merchant today who had a shocking story for us. The man, who would like to remain anonymous for obvious reasons was kind enough to give us a full interview after living through a nightmare earlier today.

IRRK: Sir, we heard that you were on your way to deliver some of your goods today when you were held up by bandits. What followed then were the worst moments in your life. Please share some of your emotions with our readers.

Honorable merchant: Indeed. I had to deliver very valuable goods from Rome to Galway Castle today but my transport ship had been damaged in a storm the other day. This delivery was very urgent though, so I couldn’t wait for my ship to be fixed properly. It was repaired to a state of being able to hover slowly.
What should I have done? I had to get my fully loaded transport to Galway Castle one way or the other. I figured the short route would not be a problem. But how goes the saying: Better safe than sorry.

IRRK: What did you do to ensure the safety of your goods in this seemingly safe evironment?

HM: Not that I thought this would be needed at all, but I looked for a few fine people to help me escort my fine wares for the entire way. High costs, but better than losing all my valuable goods if something happens. At least that’s what I was thinking at that time.

IRRK: So all of this looked like some normal every-day tour?

HM: Not normal because I’m usually not forced to take my goods over land, but there was no reason to believe anything should happen. That was a terrible mistake to believe though.

    IRRK: What happened next?

HM: These filthy people were suddenly there out of nowhere, blocking the road and threatening us. They wanted my transport with all my goods and uttered threats against me and the people I had hired to protect my transport.

IRRK: This sounds like a horrible situation. Couldn’t you have called the guards?

HM: It all happened so fast and so suddenly. I had barely enough time to draw my weapon. The next thing I remember is everyone was shooting and shouting. They had no right to do this.

IRRK: What happened to your transport ship?

HM: They blew it up! I couldn’t believe my own eyes. They just blew the transport to pieces those damn criminals. All my goods went up in flames. I was stunned by the shock. What happened next I’m not sure about. There was shooting all around me. Then I felt something hard to describe. It felt as if lava was flowing around me. It took a while before I realised I had been hit several times.

IRRK: This is an unbelievable act of violence. Could you go into more details for our readers please, they would like to know every little detail about what happened to you.

HM: My body was filled with pain, the pain was everywhere. It felt as if I were made of pain. Then after a while I woke up at the reclaim terminal. A feeling I don’t wish my fiercest enemies ever have to bear. I was all confused and upset about what had happened.
Only later I learned that those mad criminals seemed to have been either killed or some of them might have been able to run away. That is not acceptable. All my goods are destroyed, everything I had is lost. What am I supposed to do now? What will I live off?

A dramatic account of what happened to an honorable merchant, and a testament of criminal activity being on the rise all over the planet, despite what some officials may claim. This is sad to say, but leaving one’s own house without a weapon handy is not something one should risk these days.

Propaganda is probably too strong of a word, in my opinion. I'd say the author is slightly mis-informed. If there was no crime, there would be no police, and the police were in Rome before any element of the Military was.

"The Emperor" wanted Rome to be a perfect city, but if he expected zero crime he wouldn't have built an Omni-Pol correctional facility.

I have treated a lot of crime-victims in the clinic I worked with before AR. It's not very pretty.

i believe IRRK is independant & neutral enough, clan is good, omni is bad, doesn't get more neutral than that...

maybe if you omnis give up on Borealis the neutrals won't hold such grudges against you all

I have to agree with Trousers here; in a world where every citizen walks the streets of Old Athen or Rome or Borealis with guns and knives out, there's bound to be a kink in the "perfect" and naivity-driven world the journalist envisions.

    Then again:

Rubi-Ka can be a wild and unforgiving place to live on. The north has its own rules -- or more so, lack thereof. Crime is something people experience every day. It’s barely worth reporting or talking about it because everyone does it all the time.
If crime is so common, and "barely worth reporting because everyone does it," how can we see that it's "escalating" or "becoming worse" with "officials denying it"? How can a world of hundreds of thousands of people without restrictions to their weapons and the display thereof act like it's supposed to be utopia and that's it, no hint of a crime must happen, ya ya ya...

How exactly does this sound like Clan propaganda? The reporter made it sound like the north is teaming with cut throats and murderers.

Ironically all the violent crimes on Clan territory comes from invading Omni gorillas.

Apparently you haven't lived in Borealis very long. It wasn't more than a couple of years ago when the "peaceful" neutral residents of Borealis were being killed by both OT and Clanners alike. I'd venture a guess that some still are. The difference now only polarizes residents more one direction or the other, depending on who they choose to believe regarding Omni-Tek's reasons for being in Borealis.

People getting shot in Bori these days shouldn't be taking pot shots at others with suppression flags. You don't go killing people and start whining when you get sent to reclaim. Simple as that.

And it's hardly being Nuetral if you are taking part in the fighting hmm?

Sounds like this guy should have hired professionals. He acts like your typical dweeb afraid of death on account of the fact it doesn't happen to him much.

As a person who routinely comes across stuff like this, be aware that the latest in dust brigade movements have pushed some gangs out of their normal territory. Accounts and eyewitness reports have recently mentioned that the Primus and Secondus gangs have been displaced, and some have even reorganized themselves into new bandit stongholds.

On behalf of The Council of Truth, I would like to warn ALL people of the dangers of travelling alone, in distant corners of Rubi-ka. If you must travel, I urge you, to seek travel in defensible groups or at least keep the lines of communication open to others. This is a safety issue, and safety is girded by preparation.

There are plans in the works to bolster security in certain zones. I am not at liberty to discuss specifics, but understand that we are aware of the risks and seeking to rectify what we can.

    That is all.
