Thread: New Camp Monster Range

Thumbs up New Camp Monster Range

Having tried a few of the 'new' camps I found them quite satisfying in replacing the fun that I though was gone from this game forever...

    HOWEVER...

No mob in this game should be able to cross the 40m mark. All players and all mobs are limited by this. Today after fighting some of the Guardians of the One or whatever the Super-Babyfaces are called, I began to leave the area, only to be teleported back. After getting in my yalm and flying nearly to the edge of SFH zone (the equivalent in scale of several miles) I was teleported back to the camp. Finally, I had to save at the SFH outpost and just let the Super-Babyface creatures kill me as that was the only way to get them to stop teleporting me back to them. I know the mobs are supposed to be hard, and you're supposed to fight them with a team or several, but that was nothing but unfair. When the issue of people shooting beyond 40m came up sometime around when many rifles were nerfed, the players were told -nothing- in the game should be able to extend it's effect beyond that. That rule should hold true now as well.

Hopefully, FC will fix this soon. It's all fun and everything to get beat up by a bunch of purple sumo wrestlers with alien fetus heads, but when I want to leave, I want to be able to leave, and not have to spend an hour trying to reach the zone border before they teleport me, or just letting them kill me because that's the only way they'll give up.

I guess no one agrees with me... Let the purple sumo wrestler dudes with alien fetus heads of SFH rejoice!

    I'll agree.

If we can't shoot more than 40m, we should be safe from Mobs, both for attacks and summoning.

Remember that the reason that range was capped for Sniper Rifles and NT Nukes was that MOB's cannot perform negative acts on your character past 40 meters. They don't even know you are there.

So obviously you were mistaken if you think the mobs used a summon nano on you when you were more than 40m away. It's technically impossible. Otherwise, Snipers and NT's would get their range back.

No, Bio, I know for a fact the summons are neither range nor time limited.

I was in Belial Forest this weekend exploring with some friends and got summoned ten to twenty full minutes after aggroing a pit lizard boss mob in my yal, because I was poking around and got too close. I had flown several hundred coordinate points away and landed when it happened. I was summoned and killed by Draco Smolen (the pit lizard boss) while my team was buffing to try attacking a camp of biledrinkers; there are four other witnesses to it.

[edit]Very likely the summons aren't tagged as 'negative actions' and/or targets are chosen against the monster's hate-list memory rather than what is in its perception, thus bypassing the usual restrictions on hostile mobs.[/edit]

There are a couple other bugs with the mob camps but those were reported through the usual channels. One I will mention here - sometimes boss mobs may spawn with about 20% of their health. If you kill them immediately you will receive no exp and only one or two items. I'm not sure if you'll get exp if you let them regen up, we didn't get a chance to try it.

This is what I was talking about. That's why the art of 'pulling' was taken out of the game.

This is probably why you can shoot at one Eye-Q at the very edge of the Eye camp and suddenly 15 Eyes are INSTANTLY next to you beating yer ass almost preventing someone who's trying the game from signing up as he explains 'how idiotic is this?!'

Ah, Jeremiah. I think there's a hint of sarcasm in _everything_ I post nowadays. Wish it weren't so. But, hey ....

Oh, right... sarcasm can be hard to spot without [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags sometimes.

But I wanted to get that experience my team and I had out on the boards, since I consider it a bug (or at least a very suspect mechanic) and if people read about it here they can maybe avoid it.

/me petitions, "Hey, these mobs are exploiting to kill me!"

    Range capped?

Thanks for the link Bionitrous, I'd actually never seen that before. It's also interesting since I'm quite sure I've been attacked by monsters well over that 40m range before. Like monsters that are stuck in one corner of the dungeon and attacking me through walls all the way to the entrance.

I've also been flying through the air to the point where I can't even see monsters on the ground, and yet I get an attacked by "___" message.

Time for funcom to reevaluate this I think and make pulling more effective, especially with all these boss mobs out there.
