Since they are going the "ccg" route.

Im going to give an example of funcom bs.

Here we have Player A and Player B.

Player A bought Booster Pack A.
Player B bought Booster Pack B.

Player A has item from Booster Pack A.
Player B has item from Booster Pack B.

They want to trade.


?!

I bet you cant trade because you dont own the booster?!

CCGs are like that, hey funcom can I do that?

Hell no, you know why? No money in that.


Funcom give it up, you suck, thats all there is to it.

Of course you will be able to trade for items from the boosters even if you dont have them. Unless they are no-drop of course, in wich case no one can trade them at all.

These sort of statements always crack me up. Of COURSE they're in it for the money. Did you think they were programming all this out of the love in their hearts? They're a company. Companies try to make as much money as you can. Legitimate complaints are one thing, but saying 'They just want money' isnt one of them. If you have a brain in your head, and can realize that adding content is expensive, and as long as the boosters dont come out once a month, then there should be no problems.

Oh and chucklehead, this booster is about land control and some graphic tweaks.

Makes me laugh really...all those peopel who think that 13$ a month means they own a part of the company. Its a service. Personally..If I worked for FC..and I wandered the boards..I woudl ignore each and every post that even remotely looked liek a screaming flame, for obviously they have no content to be worth looking at.

(hell thats what they probably do allready..after all I cant imagine a team of 50 whos sole job is to read the forums and try to get info from it)

No! Of course they are not in it for the money! They made AO so that could have the pleasure of hearing the whining that usually comes one way or another for every company that makes a MMORPG. Now I get it!

I have said this before and will say it again and again.

The ONLY way MMOs make money is by the monthly subscription fees. That is it!! You might be able to make some money if you had EQs number of subscribers.

Cost of the Original box minus the one month of free subscription often comes out as often breaking EVEN on the sale.

If Funcom wants it Booster pack displayed with all the rest of the New Arrivals and kept there they will have to CHARGE $30 for it and barely make enough to cover the manufacturing and advertising cost of it.

Why are they releasing the Booster pack if they are going to make little or no money from it?

ADVERTISING!! Get those boxes out there to let the public know you are still a going concern. Get those nice up front of store locations. And, get gaming mags and sites to give you 'free' advertising with previews, news, and reviews.

Why are they not going to offer it as free or at a nominal price for downloading? The stores would REFUSE to sell it, if Funcom undercuts them on price on their online store.

I don't mind paying more for significant additions/changes to the game. Expansion, boosters, whatever the heck you want to call them.

Here is the problem though, for me:

1) There are *MAJOR* bugs still in the game that have existed since the first day of release. Dying while zoning. Items disappearing. Monsters shooting or meleeing you through 10 walls. Ghost damage. Etc.

2) There are professions that are still hurting BADLY in both PvM, PvP, as well as just "fun". Soldier, NT, and Engineer need some SERIOUS work. These professions have neded some "love" since day 1.

3) The promised "constantly evolving story line" well...... hasn't "constantly evolved."

I don't mind paying more money for NEW stuff.

What I object to is paying more money to get the things I *ALREADY* paid for.

I bet there is a lot of stuff cool rockin stuff the Devs want to add to AO.
But due to it all being a company they cant spare the manpower
or the budget to get all the stuff done.


The Land Control Booster pack seems like such a thing.
They couldnt make it for launch.
It was on Envisioned list.
The list was taken off of site for various reasons.
Wether land control stayed or not , who knows.

Someone at FC lobbyed for land control and now it's back.
Altough as a souped up concept compared to the simple original concepts.

I'm just glad it's being made available at all.
Think the worst. No land control at all. (i.e no booster) I sure hope not...

You realy think that FC cares what you think if you don´t voice your appinion and say what faults the game have? You realy think that somehow FC knows that whatever gamebraking thing they put into the game is not so "leet"?

If they know that something was bad they would not put in the game in the first place, but they have no clue whatsoever even after trying it on testserver and getting negative response from test players. Quite simply FC have no clue whatsoever how it is to play their game as a normal player that don´t have access to DEV and all the info on things they put in the game and how to get them most efficiently. They have no idea how it is to be a causal gamer and not having time to get together a team to go through a team mission, since all the neet stuff is in there that is what is prefered.
In short they have not a clue whatsoever, and they have not gained back the trust of a lot of us that was here from the start (more or less and those few that are still here).

Terlis, I think there's a little misunderstanding about our type of booster pack here, and the booster pack from ccg's that you are using an example out of.

Although we refer to this next product as a Booster Pack, there is one type of booster pack. If you go to a game store you will be faced with only one version of the booster pack - there is no booster pack A and booster pack B.

Our booster pack (and since this is a first, probably future booster packs from any company if they follow suite) doesn't follow the ccg model. If you have an AO booster pack, and your friend does too, of course you'll be able to trade things back and forth. We don't restrict that. And why we do that? Because it enhances your play experience.

I hope that goes someway to clarify what the AO Booster Pack is about.

If you didn't want this compared to the ccg booster pack, you shouldn't have used that same comparison in your original announcement:

"Booster packs have been standard in card-based games for years," said Trond Arne Aas, Funcom's newly appointed President and CEO.
