Reflective Fields for dummies

Dear stupid journal,

With all these rising threats around such as Dust Brigade having someone to lead them, ninja legionnaires and increasing prices on the market, I decided to give the Newland militia new cards to play with. The long term effect would be... not having Omnis or Clans elites protecting the town, and not protecting its independence at all.

So I had a look at their equipment, and their training. They received fine tuned JAME blasters, and sets of Nonpartisan Armor in perfect condition.
But concerning their training... They never use nanoprograms. And for soldiers that's lame, as strong as they are because Total Mirror shield is really needed if, lets say, someone decide to launch a missile on us. And what more demoralizing that barely hitting someone ?

Thanks to Wolf Brigade I have now a good supply of reflective fields and ncu. I started the training but I have some problems... Teaching them anything is worse then extracting lead viralbots. I'll get it done eventually.

A couple of days ago, near an outpost in Newland Desert:

Boltgun: "Okay, each one of you have a belt, 6 chips, and a partial deflection shield crystal ?"

"Yep" answer the 4 guards in front of him.

Boltgun: "Good then let's start the Operation Estimohn! Who is using nanoprograms regularly ?"

Among the 4, 2 hands raise.

Boltgun: "Guard Ronand ?"

Ronand: "I have a lighter nanoprogram to light my cigars."

Boltgun: "Awesome you can offer aliens a smoke! and you Guard Andy ?"

Andy: "I use often sense boost.."

Boltgun: "Good!"

Andy: "Yeah I often put my Yalm keys around and forget where they are. This really help to find them."

Boltgun: "..."

Boltgun: "Anyway lets start! First lets install your ncu, all of you must first install the belt and wait for a whole minute and half for... activate."

Ronand: "Can't we install the chips first on the belt ? You know we could put the whole thing on and off at once."

Boltgun: "Well, erm... Hum... You know what I hear ? Not the sound of a belt getting equipped! However I'm hearing the sound of a guard who is going to patrol down the subway!"

Ronand: "Whatever."

Boltgun: "Alright now you install the chips, one at a time in all the slots."

The next minutes pass quietly as the guards putting their chips... very slowly.

Boltgun: "Alright now you can see that your memory have raised ?"

"Err... Boss Marshall?"

Boltgun: "Andy ?"

Andy: "It says -376."

Boltgun: "Okay come over here!"

As he check Andy's belt he realize the awful truth, he is witnessing something that he have never seen before. What is front of him is something that nano specialists would kill to see.

Boltgun: "Abruti! Sombre cretin! You put the memory backward!"

Andy: "What ?"

Boltgun: "Lemme try to put one off... Dammit, it's stuck."

At the same time Andy reach another chip on the other side of his belt and start pulling.

Boltgun: "No, you idiot!"

Both manage to remove a chip. Belts have usually a system that prevent several slots to be equipped at once, nobody knows the consequences of touching 2 memory at the same time.

Both wait nervously for a good minute. Suddenly smoke start to escape from the remaining memories.

Andy: "Ow, ow, ow ! My belt is going to explode!"

He rip the belt off as fast as possible and throw it at a rock not far away, a deafening explosion vaporize it. Boltgun just look at the hole that have replaced it.

Boltgun: "Awesome. Put that in a casing and... Oh yea, you see this bag full of rocks ? You take it and carry it around for the whole day. Now take another belt but have someone install it for you or I'll make sure it stay on your waist when it explode!"

And you have to wonder about what protects our citys. Here's to hoping once Boltgun has sorted them out, they will be as sharp as the pointy finger on my cyberdeck. Looks like you have a long haul infront of you though bolt :P Good luck.

"Alright now that everyone has a non explosive NCU, we're going to the next part. I mean, we will upload our nanoprograms."

The guards were holding their nanocrystals awkwardly. The crystals looks tiny in their hands like if they would break it just by holding it tight.

Ronand: "I'm not quite sure it's that useful, I mean we're going trough great effort just for... shields."

Boltgun: "What? Just shields? Dammit, you soldiers don't have any. If I throw a missile at you, you'll die! »

Andy: "You know, missiles kill people."

Boltgun: "It kills you and that's not acceptable, you die when I permit it. Alright forget the crystal for now, time for a test run. Guard Tranio get over here and ready your weapon."

As Tranio prepare himself, Boltgun move away for around 20 meters.

Boltgun: "Now let's see if it's 'Just for shields' ok?”

Ronand: "But you don't have to..."

Boltgun: "Stop that, you're ready Tranio?"

Tranio: "Yes, ready!"

Boltgun: "Okay, I'll cast a Total Mirror Shield then you shoot me okay?"

Tranio: "Sure!"

Boltgun: "Alright 'ere we go..."

As usual Boltgun put his left hand in front of him and starts picking his nanobot cloud, then launch the execution of TMS mk X.

At this point Boltgun is just waving his arms like a maniac in hope it will just catch nanobots and launch the so vital shield soldiers need to cast quickly to save their life.

Andy: "No, but I can't help him. There is this big shield around him. It's a damn powerful shield, deflecting my stim. Sorta..."

Ronand: "We'll have to wait until the shield is gone, no way we can grab it."

Tranio: "At least he's not bleeding."

Ronand: "Dammit Tranio, you're the worst itchy finger I ever seen. And seen many back in town."

Tranio: "Hey, he said 'go ahead'!"

Andy: "Hum... Now we do what?"

Ronand: "Let’s drag him inside once the shield wear off. With chance he won't remember anything when he'll be back in shape."

*Somewhere closeby, in viewing the debacle thru binoculars and hidden from view by a cloaking device*

Juju : "What the hell is he doing like that ? Asking for an orbital bombardment on his ass?"

Juju : "Ohhh nooooo......the pain... the ridiculousness.... the humanity... We're gonna need to get some kind of atrox expert for this..... i wonder who's a well known Atrox soldier or nanotechnology user......Who knew training a bunch of Atroxes would be such a challenge?"

*Jujuwalker crouches on the sand and looks at the guards trying to poke Boltgun with their stims... and failing*

Tranio : Doesn't look so tough. I mean, all I see is a 'upload' button.

Ronand : Yea maybe we need to know to use a shield but to copy a program to your own ncu, that would save us carrying 2 crates of crystals. Without breaking any.

Boltgun : Oh damn, what am I doing here ? Anyway go ahead and try.

Ronand : Alright, I push this button and...

Nothing much happened during this day, after their shift in Newland the guards met as usual in the desert outpost only to notice that the crates containing their training gear disappeared.

While waiting for Boltgun the guards have gathered pebbles and put them in piles several meters away from each other. After a good hour, a red yalm finally land nearby.

Ronand : Greetings chief, can we know where the equipment went ?

Boltgun : I sent it all to Newland, general Hekkat will take care of it now if he can have anything done from you.

Tranio : But what about the training ?

Boltgun : No more training! I give up, there is no way you can use nanoprogram! Get your stuff in there, I want you in Newland tonight. I'm out of there.

The guards silently watch Boltgun go back to his yalm and drive away. Once he's gone they take position near the pebbles.

Andy : Okay, my turn. Go ahead Tranio.

Tranio pick up a peebble. After waiting a short time, he throw it at Andy who deflect it away with a perfectly timed mirror shield.

Ronand : Nice one! My turn to try now!
