Thread: Report forum upgrade issues here

  1. #21
Threads aren't properly marked as 'New' - anything up to a week old is considered NEW! unless I've read the thread since the last reply was posted, rather than just visiting the forum.

    Stop messing with the forums!

Everytime you change something my subscribed-list is destroyed. Last time I "magically" unsubscribed to every post I'd posted in since october 2005, and this time my User CP is listing all threads I posted in the last 10 days as new, even though I read them all last night and the majority has no new posts since then.

Edit: And was the "Post reply" button always in the lower right corner?

About all the unread threads at your first login

This is correct behaviour due to a new feature in the latest version of the forum program. It will remember all threads you have not read for up to 10 days. This feature lets you come back later to read threads that you missed or did not have time to read on an earlier visit. The reason why you suddenly have a lot of unread threads when you first logged on today is due to the feature just having been enabled late last night (GMT).
    • You can mark all threads on the forum read by using the menu on the top left: Quick Links -> Mark Forums Read or by using the Mark Forums Read link at the bottom of the forum frontpage.
    • You can also single out separate forums and just make those marked as read. You do this in each forum by using the upper left menu named Forum Tools -> Mark This Forum Read.

    - The front page changed. there no longer is a space between the different forum sections.
I liked this space, it made it easier to see the different sections.
    - Also, copyright for FC still says 2004 :P
    - I think the edit and quote button should be on the green bar.

Sidenote: LOVE the new edit feature. it's uber

When you read one of your new subscribed threads it disappears from the list immediately. It used to stay there for a day or so in regular letters instead of bold letters after you read it.

This might be intended, but it's nice to have an overview of the threads you've been active in the last few hours. If intended it will probably just take some getting used to.

Edit: I know we can click "view all subscribed threads", but it's not the same.

Post count is gone from the "View public profile" page as well.

In addition, this page now shows the persons age in addition to birthdate. Very helpful for people who can't add/subtract.

This is a visual illusion . The background color for the categories changed in the templates, so instead of having the same background as the forums, they now have this gray-greenish color. This does make it look a bit more cramped. I will see what I can do to make it the same background as before.
    Edit: Fixed

Any chance of this being, umm, 'corrected' by a setting somewhere in the User CP? Personally, I like being able to just throw a quick glance at the list to see what's been said. Maybe just a way to set how long back you want things marked as new?

I'm concerned that there are no visual tools for doing text formatting (like bold and italics) and inserting controls (like lists and URL links to text) like there was previously.

Errr i've never had the little buttons. Always had to type them in (like I just did with that quote ;p ) So i'm curious why i've never had them. While I can DO the manual insertion of the code it takes longer, I wanna be lazy too

I agree that it will be extremely nice to be able to set the time a thread is concidered New after you have visited the forum. Used to be like 1-2 hours. With 10 days you are more or less forced to mark all the threads read all the time, unless you want the entire forum to lit up like a "holiday" tree.

Well said, Metaing. I can see the use of such a setting on, say, one org's forum - but there is NO WAY anyone can want, or even realistically try, to read everything that is said here. Yes, having them not grey out just because you accidentally closed your browser is nice, but please - the time-out at 1-2 hours as it was is GOOD ENOUGH.
