    Talking Giving life to town

There's nobody in restaurant, or discotheque...
    Why? because they are useless...
So if we can earn xp when we dance in those kind of places or chat or drink or whatever, why can't we earn something, I think creating social life in a world is as usefull as killing stupid mob !!
    Stop thinking XP=Killing

Becaue then people would make a script to make them dance for 8 hours, use it, leave, come back, use it again, sleep, wake up, etc etc. It is very hard to make a system like that that won't an can't be abused, without making a different Social XP tree. Not a bad idea, but it would be useless for your point.

Create an adversarial challenge in dancing, where the
dancing requires that you respond to changes in your environment and correct use of RoT skills.

Unfortunately, AO doesn't have any such in game mechanisms, so the scripting problems that were mentioned above are the inherent barrier.

So, itll add to the game having the "regulars" always dancing.

Got to break out of that mode.
I was one of the people who believe that FC had a "secret" 12.0 patch just before launch....he he.

You start to think that the Shrooms are wearing off and then you look at the ceiling and realize you got a few hours.

How can you bring life to cities we you can't see people unless you are right f$^%ing on top of them?

Wrong... They capped visible distance at about 40m.

You use to be able to see people huddled around the mission terminals from 100m away.

It looks so boring, stale, and lonely the way it is now.

How about player-created missions that could reward xp rather then money & items. That way you could win money at dance contests or social events (raffles, door prizes). There would have to be some kind of GM approval or something.. so that players couldn't just reward themselves tuns of XP for using a dance emote lol.

However, there are small groups of social/rp oriented play. Check out http://baboonsnightclub.tripod.com/ for information on events they run at Baboons and other places. I've got an NT who has won a diving contest at 4-holes resourt.. if I could have won XP rather then credits (although the credits were nice) I think I would have been happier. The party lasted several hours and was lots of fun.

This game does have quite a few roleplayers, you just have to seek them out. After all this is undeniably the most roleplaying oriented MMORPG out there. Now if only they would open the Roadkill Resturaunt in Omni-Ent .. on and Head & Tails.

You know what? Your assumption is xp=useful, no xp=useless. Xp is not the be-all, end-all of AO. Get your character a girl/boyfriend. Take them dancing. Make some friends and hit the bar together and swap war stories. Those of us in the social areas aren't there for xp, we're there to BE SOCIAL, dangit.

Your exactly right Esselte. Not all the game is based on gaining xp.. but rather having fun. It's called Roleplaying. Unfortunately only about 5% of MMORPG players are roleplayers.

I enjoy roleplaying myself, it adds a depth to the game that nothing else seems to be able to touch.

I think there are some here who are more talking about gaining xp in ways that are non-combative. There is hope for those of you.. in the form of a new mission type called Escort. In this type you get the mission and an NPC starts following you around. Theres no mission 'dungeons' involved.. you just have to escort that person to a spot on the map in some zone. There is no combat for the most part.. although agressive mobs will attack as per normal.

Nice model it after the PVP's title system for hours spent in bars, I love it social titles!

Outcast - 10 hours in bars
Reject - 100 hours in bars
Introvert - 1,000 hous in bars
Wall flower - 10,000 hours in bars
Recluse - 100,000 hours in bars
Hermit - 1,000,000 hours in bars
Homebody - 10,000,000 hours in bars

You will lose 1/10 of your total hours if you are ever outside more than you are in a bar.

Jeebus Ultra, planning on being around a while?

    10,000,000 hours = 1,141.5 years
    1,000,000 hours = 114.2 years

and so on and so forth.

Hey, maybe they will have added guild houses by then!

    Catch ya planetside.

    P.S.- I know u were joking.

I want an Outcast title! I don't care what it's for, that's a great title.

    Smile

I don't know about the dancing for XP idea, and this may be getting off of the point of the thread, if so sorry.

To make bars and restaurants more useful and lively FC could move the mission booths inside. Drawing people into these social areas might make them more likely to socialize with others.

Or they have NPCs sitting in the bars who could give you special missions with higher rewards with higher risk. That might give RK a role-playing element and more atmosphere.

    So!

You know what? WHO CARES if some loser makes a script so that he/she can dance for exp! I think that you should continuously get a very low amount of exp as long as you are not static: just sitting, standing or doing some repetitious moment (like a script). But who am I? Not a Funcom employee I (thank goodness).

It was stupid to make us not need food. The bars and imbisses wouldn't be dead if we HAD to buy food and drink. Not to mention that cooking could be a trade skill (Yes. I miss my EQ skewers).

The towns ARE dead and it's a sad state.

Oh! Let's not forget that there is NO ONE WORKING at Mongol Meats in Tir... No employees, no customers.
