    Lightbulb Profession adjustment idea

Here's an idea for generically addressing the continual problems with various professions being rebalanced to be different in combat capabilities and in overall competence in the game.

Rather than striving for absolute equality in combat capabilities across the different professions, which is first of all probably impossible, and secondly is inappropriate for professions which are not really intended to be combat specialists, how about coming up with a "balance factor" which is a real number generally close to 1.0 for most professions.

To determine the "true effective level" for PoD purposes, both for cons as well as in determining what to put in mission levels and other similar applications, multiply the profession's BF by the player's true level. Thus, if Funcom determines (just for example) that at some point fixers have a BF of 0.8 compared to Enforcers at 1.0 or whatever, they can at least give them a break in terms of what mobs will show up as green and what mobs show up in their missions. When FC changes fixers or enforcers in some random nerfing, gimping or (it's theoretically possible) enhancing patch, they can then adjust the BF values. Wouldn't it be neat if all professions could have the same chance of completing 50%
(or any other given percent) missions?

Of course, there can be endless dispute over whether these BF numbers are valid at any given moment, but there is already endless whining from the majority of professions anyhow, and it's much easier for FC to change a single parameter value then it is to implement a series of bugfixes, nano program enhancements, etc. etc. etc.

Of course, when a profession is somehow handicapped in an "unplanned" way, Funcom should fix those problems, but the BF idea first of all provides an interim solution for temporarily gimped professions, and secondly provides a long-term balancing factor for professions which were never intended to be masters of combat.

So, what do you think? Good idea? Already suggested before? Is the BF really just BS? What what what?

Obligatory whine: Of course, regardless of the BF implementation, NTs still need to be fixed anyway (and I guess, that means that fixers need to be NT-ed :-)

    Ive got a profession adjustment.......

Professions(i dont know if anyone has noticed) are all becoming, or already have been, pretty much the same profession... Pet users, healers, nano users, weapon specialists, etc. are all coming together(or have been together) in professions to "balance" the game. Docs, MAs, and Advents can all heal really well. Engineers, MPs, and Crats can all get one or more of those neat pets. ALL professions are good nano users. Almost all professions are figuring out the 3 good weapons and 1 good armor on Rubi-Ka and using them. We are all pretty much looking the same now... With most of the same abilities(powers). I wish professions had more of a seperation.... making you feel special and only others of your profession can do it as great as you. For example, it would be great if there was a profession that was 10x stronger or 10x faster than all the others... no other profession could touch it in those areas. Special abilties only that profession could reach. The doc healing 10x better than all others(other professions shouldnt get close)... The soldier using 10x the weapons and better combat skills, etc.... The NT having most of the abilties of Nano Programs, other professions should only get a limited abilty if they choose to put ip in that area, etc..... The MA being able to 10x better at punching and kicking, give them great moves like roundhouse and trip, etc...... The Advent should be 10x better at wilderness survival, able to live in a tent or even a tree, able to make traps to catch monsters, way better with the map skills, etc..... You get the picture. Just special profession skills that go with that profession and not needing to use a nano program to do it.... Does everything we do in the future need a nano program to do it? Cant we just have natural abilities to do tasks? Cant we read or just have a super ability to do it because it is our profession? I think it is stupid that there is profession specific nano programs... Isnt it just like shooting up a program or however it works?.... Everyone can do that. These talents could also depend on what race you are. I hope you understand what I am talking about here..... I could have explained it better but Im just going off of the top of my head. Everything is AO is pretty much all about NanoPrograms... and many professions are alike. AO should be called NANOWORLD not Anarchy Online... its all the game has to offer. You would think the game is about bringing down the government and everything involved with that. With a "real time" evolving world based on character(s) actions. BAH........

    Lightbulb oh... one more thing

    To add to my reply........^
Maybe if this happened then there would be "character balance" and Funcom would stop nerfing and wrecking their game trying to do so....
-PvP would be kinda like this.... if different professions would battle:

    super strong vs. super fast

    super nukes vs. super heal

    super pet vs. super weaponry

that one super profession talent(unlike all other professions) would even out the battle... one might have a super strong punch but the other can run fast and hit fast, one might have a super damage nuke but the other can have a super heal, one has a pet but the other has a special weapon to go against that pet......

Just stop worrying about PvP balance all together and worry more about PvM balance and making each profession unlike all the others. Things would even out.

Ballance factor could make for some interesting groupings...

a fixer teamed with an enforcer.

They come up against a mob. It's green to the enforcer and deep red to the fixer. fixer gets uber xp and enforcer gets jack.

    hehe
The pen is mightier than the sword, you say? Very well, get out your pens, essay writers, and prepare to have your logic tested by steel!
