Thread: Kodiak vs. Yalm

    Smile Kodiak vs. Yalm

It's also my opinion that having a Yalm is great but... when your level is -80 something and you still have less than a 3m creds, I would say that Kodiak is worth of buying for, what you think?

I just bought my first Kodiak and it helps me a lot with running speed and it only cost me a something like 60k.

Previously money or run speed weren't the problem for me.

I wanted a Yalm but liked the idea of being a bit faster than i was.

But before 14.2 It was the waste of unrecoverable IP that stopped me. But now i'm still wondering if I'm really desperate enough to use 1 of my few remaing rest points just so i can get there a little faster

implants are fine if you have the money the time and the treatment rq to get your vehicle skill high enough to use the car your lookin at.

But suck if just 1 of the above is missing.

I have never, never, ever regretted getting a Yalmaha. In my opinion they are the best item to have in the entire game. Having one completely changed the game for me. The world became mine to explore. I used to think that buying a Kodiak was a good temporary solution, but I'm not sure now. Kodiaks take lots of ip's
to equip, if you can find a ql 30 or 31 Yalm, you'll only spend around 80 ip or so to equip, even less if you are increasing the correct primary skills as you level up. I've had quite a few people
ask me if they are really worth the 4+ million credits. My standard answer? ABSOLUTELY!!

Kodiak are very easy to get even at levels as low as 36

I personally bought mine at 34, but was unable to equip it until lvl 40. (due to the 202 vehicle ground requirement)

definately improves speed but it's no Yalm.
Still the Kodiak is definately worth buying for lvl 40-80 characters.
decreases time to missions by half. Only problem is that it's stuck on the ground. but hey. still good.

why get a kodiak with a measly runspeed gain, when you can find a nice fixer to buff your runspeed +720 for free, with no IP wasted?
    Muffinhunter
200/AL 5 Clan Fixer (omg finally)
    Jadedmuffin
81 Omni MP (on hold...man, MP's get boring fast.)
    Acknonano
34 Clan Raidslave Doc (or at least that was the initial idea...)

Never met a fixer who wasn't begging for money.

I one that was happy enough to buff everyone with massive runspeed.

Can you imagine what it would be like if Fixer buffs were the only way to get around?

1 hour to find a willing fixer and another hour in the que of ppl waiting for buffs.

    Sod that buy a car!

    Thats not true.

Find a fixer in a crowd. Innocently shout can anybody buff my run speed nearby. Stand still for a few seconds and wait for the buffs to start piling in.

Having said that I've just bought a Kodiak and IPRd into it. But I think this notion of buying a yalm is highly unrealistic to anybody below 120.

    Agreed!

Level 75 Enf here and I just topped 1 mil in tha banka few days ago. Frankly I need armour and implants more than i need to save for a yalm.

As far as I can tell the runspeed gain from a Kodiak is actually about the same or perhaps slightly better than a Yalm. Maybe you're thinking of the mid.

    eg.
    lvl 79 Kodiak +359 speed
    lvl 73 Yalm +302 speed

I only have one thing to say about the Mid

When I was still fairly new, my Soldier was about level 75 and I started a new MA.

Doing the concrete cusion thing and trading varions items around (buy low, sell high) I managed to get a Yalm on my MA when she was level 24. NO EBAY NEEDED. And the only money I gave her from my higher level Soldier was for QL30 implants and starting equipment, which was about 200k.

Money in AO is handed out (spent) in droves. Getting a peice of that pie is not as hard as you might think.

And yes, make the effort, get a yalm.

    Uh, no.......
yes, the runspeed gain listed in the description is the same. but all QL Yalms fly the same speed, and that is about 1000 Run speed or something. Im pretty darn sure this is a bug, but a QL 30 Yalm which lists something like +120 runspeed will outrun any Kodiak any day.

Not sure I agree. If you have sufficiently high conceal skill and you have patience then it is always an option to stop levelling for a while and go for the items. At lvl 54 I can sneak mission (and sometimes die doing it) for >30k a go. It can be quite quick to sneak a mission, if one of the rewards is a part of the implant that you need or a part of the armour suit you need then you can earn cash and get what you need. Alright so I would have to sneak 130+ missions to get my Yalm, that is only true if I don't get any other mission rewards that are worth anything.

If there are a few chests in rooms without mobs and you get Identify Item missions then you can easily get 3-4 times the mission reward for the items. This is called work and it is the way to get money. Sometimes you have to roll a lot of missions to get the one that is the right balance. I still haven't got a yalm I am obsessed by levelling more than by cash. I would really like one though so maybee a few levels down the line when the rewards are even bigger I will start a saving spree.

I ran money missions for a bit more than one week shortly after the AO launch. Bought my Yalmaha at level 36.

On RK3 I ran money missions one weekend at level 73 and bought a Yalmaha.

When you can get ql100+ missions which is around level 70 its real fast, go to Borealis , grab 3 pickup missions (money/bad) to broken shores city of home, grid there, run through mission, grab item, run back out, repeat. I think in stret west you can get broken shores missions even earlier, dont remember exactly.

You have to turn off auto target/attack first in options, otherwise you cant pickup item though.

Dount even try to compare a yaml with a Kodiak

You cant tell your speed from looking at your runspeed while airboarne... Just think of it as two seperate things... When airboarne you go ALOT faster than running or driving an ground vehicle with the same runskill... Ask an MP with quantum wings... Or even better if you havent experienced a yalm yet get an high lvl Adventurer to cast parrot or dragon form on ya (if ya got the NCUs) and experience for yourself...

And Ive never waisted 1ip on Vehicle Air nor ground... a ql 90 imp is enough to get a lvl 50 into a ql 30-40 yalm... well for ppl that raises sence at least...

I agree yalms are expensive, but so they should be...

    Just my 2 cents

    Kodiak vs Yalm

As a L63 Enf currently saving up for a Yalm I find the Kodiak invaluable. It really speeds up time to mission. Even if I could find a fixer for a buff it would still involve waiting around, and anyway I prefer to be self sufficient.

I have made about 1.6 million in the last few days of playing, some of it was very hard earned. Enf aren't great at sneaking, so I am simultaneously working for my 250 token board (I have 230 currently).

My method is to get identify object missions from a term at Avalon, at about 50% - 60% (0% XP and 100% evil). Any higher and the missions take forever. The missions I pick are The Longest Road, and if you get them at approx 3500,1500 (from memory) they will be in or near Bliss, which is one whompa jump away. The Wailing Wastes is another good spot, but involves a bit more travel.

There are at least two mission spots in Bliss that are only 15-20 mobs, which makes for quick missions. When you find one, keep a note of the co-ords and look for them when next getting missions.

Each mission should net me around 25-30k credits for the reward, and at least the same again in cash from the mobs/chests. I also gain 30-50k XP, although I don't want to level too fast at this stage otherwise I am going to have to upgrade - which I want to save until after I have my shiny new Yalm.

Some may baulk at the prospect of 100 missions to get a Yalm, but from the journeys around RK on foot I am really looking forwards to a bit of siteseeing once I get airbourne.

One last though, it is worth investing in specialised Pill Knowledge implants (head, eye and right hand) and a bio-communicator. It cost me about 60k to get these things, but I have made several hundreds back so far through converting monster parts.

Yalms are the best items in the game, nothing is better then going from one end of a zone to the other in about a minute. it rocks. and I got my yalm and was able to use it at level 70. Its called farming monster parts and having rich friends.

and yes the yalms are bugged, it doesnt matter which one you get, they all go the same speed, but are still extremely fast. I went from one end of RK to the other in abour 45 minutes in my yalm. running from one end to the other would take about 6 to 7 hours, and using a kodiak and im just guessing here woud take about 3 to 5 hours, depending on how well you know the zones.

Yalms are so fast because you can fly over everything and dont get agro by mobs, and if mobs dont agro you they wont attack as long as you are in a yalm. that is a bug though, they are suppose to be able to, but dont. As long as im in a yalm I can go into Tir and pester you Clanners.

You will get attacked in a Yalmaha though if you get too close. It seems like alot of mobs can't hit me at all, but I've found out the hard way not to linger close by too long. Forgot where I was, but I spotted this little tiny creature with a strange name that looked kind of like a tick or small spider. Going in to take a closer look I saw it was very red to me. I was just thinking to my self how tiny it was when I was killed in two hits, chemical damage if I remember correctly
